I've been browsing the forum for a little while now to gather some info on an e cig setup. Seems the more I read, the more confused i get. I'll give you guys some basic info and hopefully get a few good recommendations.

I smoke Marlboro ultra lights, about a pack a day. Some days more, some less, but usually right about there. I doubt I need anything really strong, but I do want it to last. I have a desk job, so vaping inside or out isn't a bit deal, but I do need something thats portable. Id like to be able to throw it in my pocket and go if I need, and not have to worry about charging several times a day. The smaller the better really.

I've been looking at the ego twist, I like the idea of being able to change voltage, but then thats where I get lost. What else would I need? Just a clearo tip, and juice? Just looking for suggestions of something I can carry with me daily and not spill in my front pants pocket.

Greetings from a fellow Omaha native, and welcome to ECF!

At the very minimum you're going to need a few batteries (one for use, one always on charger for backup, minimum), probably a few clearo's (if thats the route you choose) for different juices and to try different coils type/locations, some spare heads for said clearos, and obv some juices.

The ego-twist is a nice vv starting point (i really like mine) but keep in mind the twist version of a 650mah ego is about 1.5" longer than a standard 650mah, so its a little less pocket friendly, here's a reg 650 and a 650 twist side by side:
IMG_1346.jpg

That said, the difference in vapor between a reg 650 and a 650 twist at around 4.2v is noticeable to say the least...

Given whats been said here at ECF it appears ~100mah = about 1 hour of vaping, so you can estimate how large/many batteries you will need to get thru the day.

Couple of pics of a clone mini vivi-nova (2.0ml) clearo on a 650 ego, and also a Kanger Protank on a 650 ego to give you an idea of size/portability. Also a pic showing my little out and about kit, with 2 bats and 3 clearo's in a little case i found somewhere.

Assuming you don't want to smoke ONLY because your vaping stuff is out of order:

More than one charging cord or adapter
I would not get a passthrough unless it also works as a non-passthrough -- I'd want 2 batteries that are carry-anywhere.

For top coil, I recommend the Vision ViVi Nova mini.

I also like the Ego Spinner a lot more than the Twist, but that is because I can't read the dial on the Twist. If you can read fine print without glasses, it doesn't matter.

A couple of people got in before I finished typing my response so all the good advice has already been given. Nevertheless, here is what I wrote.

Hi dbakek, welcome to the forum. It really sounds like you're almost there.

A twist or spinner will be just great. If you decide to go down to something smaller or up to something more powerful, you'll still have an excellent, versatile backup.

Yes, you will probably want to start with a clearomizer for minimum hassle. I personally recommend the evod but a standard 'stardust' type or an iClear 16 are also great choices.

My best advice for you is to get two batteries and two clearomizers so you have somewhere to turn in an emergency and won't feel the need to go buy a pack of cigarettes. Most starter kits will come with matching pairs.

I wish you the very best of luck. You are making one of the best decisions you ever will.

I would look at the variable watt (VW) iTaste V3 over the Twist. First, it's variable watt which is closer to "set & forget" than VV, like the twist. Second, it is actually smaller than the twist. Third, you can check your remaining battery life and the ohms of your atty/carto with the V3. Fourth, it won't keep rolling off a flat surface like the twist. Fifth, it doubles as a pass-through. Sixth, it has a 3.5 amp switch unlike the weak 2.5 amp switch on the twist which limits what you can use on the twist. It's just better all around:

Ego's and clearo's work good, sounds like your on the right track. You might want to get a pass thru device for the desk also.

Ego Twist
Ego Passthrough
Kanger T3 (Bottom Coil)
Ce4 Clearomizer (Top Coil)
Veriety of Juices

This is right on IMHO. The twist will introduce you to the world of variable voltage (VV). The passthrough can charge while you're sitting at your desk and you can disconnect it to vape on the go (I have one). Also, getting bottom coil and a top coil tank systems will help you decide which you prefer more and can allow you to vape while driving (and not have to drip). Never drip and drive!

Welcome to ECF and congrats on making the switch! Good luck!

Everyone has given you solid choice, but I'll add one more - my fist set-up that I still use today:

eGo v (variable voltage up to 6.0 volts - more than the twist). Can be used when charging (pass through) and has a digital display.
Kanger T3 clearomizer (bottom coil). You can wash the heads mutliple times before purchasing replacements. Easy to fill.

Ecigs go from simple to mind numbingly confusing back to easy. I read and researched for a solid 3 months every night before I pulled the trigger. No standardization is beautiful and horrifying at the same time... Like a lion. This is the kit you should buy. Get some extra 1.8 ohm heads for it as well. http://www.myvaporstore.com/Vision_Spinner_Joye_Ego_C_Twist_Combo_p/vvs-c.htm
Juice is 100% personal preference but I would recommend 50/50 pg/vg juice with 24 mg nicotine for beginning. I like rawr vapor strapple and nutty tobacco. That kit and juice combo you will be set for at least 6 months. ORDER MORE JUICE A WEEK BEFORE YOUR OUT!! Or you'll be back at the gas station getting cigs. Welcome in.

This.

You'll have your two starter batteries, plus some of the more popular top coil/bottom coil clearomizers - after trying them both out you can decide which you like and then buy a few backups of that type.

I also like the idea of the Innokin iTaste 3.0 that someone linked to in here - though retail price is $49.99, so I'm guessing you'd be able to find it at or below that price if you look around (I know an American supplier had them for $35 a few days ago somewhere). Personally I'm just using standard Ego batteries (no VV or VW) and they work fine for me, but when I do step up to a variable I'm probably leaning toward the iTaste for about the same price or a few bucks more than the Twist types...

I don't have the itaste v3.0 but I'm looking at it as a next in line purchase. I have smaller and bigger ones but I like the looks and the passthrough ability to vape while charging. Would be a good starter setup. Just get a couple different juice delivery devices to go with it. There are so many things to try you just have to find what works best for you.

Lots of good ideas for you! I started with Apollo's Superior Ego kit. It is relatively cheap, and unlike the Twists and Spinners, it is a standard 950 mAh battery so nothing to mess with but the batteries are powerful and will last all day. It has clearomizers and charger in the kit. It sold me on switching from tobacco to vapor. NO HASSLES. Their RY4 and Sahara are both very good tobacco flavors. Not too strong and similar to the real thing. I've been vaping a year and just 2 months ago switched to Spinner and Smok Winders. Just bought my first mod 2 days ago. So the regular ego held me out for a long time. Didn't need anything fancy or complex when I was making the switch, and I doubt you do either lol. Just my 2 cents,
Chris

One of my favorite starters is over this way: Spinner/Twist combo. Now, you don't have to get that kit nor use that vendor but they've put things together nicely.

The problem with "smaller" is battery life. You've got a couple of requirements that go in opposite directions there. The batteries that will last for, oh, about an entire "shift" are up in the 900+ mAh range (mAh being a measure of battery capacity). I get six or so hours out of a charge using 1000mAH Twist batteries. Though I do vape often and at the upper end of the voltage range.

Now, being at a desk, you can get what's called a "pass through". Which is a battery or device with no battery that "passes through" the power when connected to a wall adapter or USB port (a powered one like on a hub or such). Then you don't have to worry about battery life at the desk.

The basics, though, are: two batteries, a charger (of course), two or more clearomizers (they're not too expensive and you'll end up with more over time, trust me :) ), and some liquids.

Spinners and Twists (the batteries) are both nice. They're both variable voltage which means you can adjust the "heat". Which can affect the taste of liquids. The "clearomizers" are the little tank looking widgets that attach to the battery and which hold (and vaporize) the juice. I use Visions (at that link, they call the ones I use, "Vision EGO Clearomizers 2.0") but, also know Kangers (especially the EVOD) are pretty popular around here. They're pretty easy to fill and clean and all. Not much too them and they just screw apart and back together. Also, the "coil heads" (the little heater that heats the juice) is replaceable when they go out (they should last a while but they are heater coils and eventually burn out). Not all that expensive. I get mine for, oh, $3 each?

That's the basics. At least.

Oh, "eGo" is a style or standard, not a brand. It's widely supported which means you're not stuck with a "single source" for clearos and such. Good standard to go with your first time out. Learn your way around, you may want something more advanced or specialized but at first, it's just confusing trying to figure out what threading is which and where and who and whatever. :)
