I worked my way up to 2 PAD smoking during my 40 yr trip. It was always the same type of tobacco. My vaping problem is that I'm not really into the 100s of flavors out there. I was looking for something that tasted just like what I was smoking. It may sound silly but it's been hard to find it although I finally did (Parliament --12mg----also called Congress). Flavors are the big thing. So maybe if you look for the same type and taste of juice, you may feel better. Oh, let me be clear. I still have those real cig cravings and I periodically give in but I'm trying. Down to about 4/5 cigs a day. Wish you the best. I hope I can do better but it's gonna take me some time.

Although I didn't smoke as much or for as long, I got some advice that got me to kick the habit. What juice are you vaping with? The reason I ask is I started with a tobacco flavor and it only cut me back to about 2-5 analogs a day. Once I started with the sweeter flavors or really good tasting non-tobacco flavors, I quit smoking within 2 days. The reason is psychologically your brain may association the new yummy flavor with smoking so when you go to smoke a real analog, it will taste disgusting. You might wanna give it a try, if you haven't already. I wish you the best of luck.

Congrats on stepping into vaping. I wish I would of originally just bough a provari, it would of saved me alot than constantly upgrading new batteries. Anyway, I had withdrawals the first couple of weeks from vaping. Not the usual hard withdrawals you get cutting cold turkey, but I definitely noticed I was feeling weird over that time.

I still have cravings at time, but what helps me is to use a higher nicotine juice when I do. Even more important for me is that certain clearos give me a better throat hit, so I have one just reserved for cravings. I love my ProTank for most vapes, but it is a bit airy for when I want the full sensation of smoking. I would recommend picking up an iClear 16 or something similar to try out. That gives me the best throat hit for when I need the feeling of smoking the most.

Congrats on the switch, Devildeath!

This is my first post here on ECF. I've been a lurker for a few months and finally decided to join.

I am 33 years old now and started smoking at the age of 15. I gradually worked up to 1 PAD. In 2009, At the age of 29, I quit cold turkey (I finished my last smoke on January 23, 4:56PM - 1/23/4/56, no joke. I planned it that way, and it worked for me.). For whatever reason, I started smoking again around January, 2012. My wife, being a non-smoker, really tried to get me to quit again. As a compromise, around two months ago, I picked up a Joyetech eGo-C starter kit. I have had 1 cigarette since then and really couldn't stand the smell and taste of it - I was lucky. Now I only vape and cosider myself a non-smoker.

My dad, who has been a smoker for 45 years, saw my eCigs and decided he'd try them as well. He had been smoking over a pack a day for decades and tried multiple times to quit using various methods (nicotine gum, will power, patches, etc.), all ending in failure. When he started vaping, the first few days, he cut down to 15 cigs per day. The second week, he was down to 10. Now, a month in, he is down to 3-5 cigs per day and if he keeps going, in another 2 weeks (I HOPE!), he will cut out smoking entirely.

As others in the thread have mentioned, it does take time and a method that works for you. Good luck, and don't quit on quitting! You can do it.

Congrats!! You've already accomplished so much! WTG!!! I have always had an issue and never went more than a day before breaking down and smoking. I started vaping about 2 months ago and today was one of my first days that I haven't wanted one or taken a drag. I think you will eventually get there. I'm so excited that I don't even want one at this point. My goal was never to quit but it happens naturally. Keep going and it will get better then one day you won't even want one.

We all shoot for the same thing, but I don't think any of us has done it exactly the same. I quit three days before I started vaping. I was on my way to get smokes but I tried e-cigs as an alternative to blowing yet another quit. A couple months in, I had a major equipment malfunction and was haviing strong cravings so I got some "snuss" which got me through the crisis. Then again, I had gotten to the point that the only thing I hated more than withdrawals, was smoking itself.

Hello, this is my first post and I have smoked 3 packs a day for over 25 years now, and just started vaping 4 days ago to try and quit smoking. I went all in for my first set up, a provari with extended battery and a kanger protank. I love the set up, the taste and the replication of smoking, and I feel this is really the best chance that I have ever had to quit. The problem is that I still feel the need to smoke, not that I need nicotine, but perhaps one of the thousands of other chemicals the cigarettes were providing, if that makes sense. Is this normal? If it is, how long until my body doesn't crave these any longer? I'm currently vaping 24mg at 4.5 volts at about 4 mil a day, I've dropped from 47 cigarettes to about 15. Any suggestion or advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

How 'bout, "don't worry about it"?

Not everyone quits the day they start vaping. Took me about six weeks. I slowed way down immediately, as you have, then sort of "drifted down" until the day came I ran out of cigarettes and didn't care. You're all of four days in. Give yourself some time.

I think for many of us, there's a "settling in" kind of thing. Finding the right flavors, the right nicotine levels, the right PG/VG mixes, all that. Plus you're shifting habits that are many, many years old. If it takes a few weeks to do that, so what?

Myself, I started doing little things like put the cigs and lighters and ashtrays in a cabinet in the kitchen. The vape stuff was handy all the time, the cigs less so. I'd let myself have a cig if just absolutely "had to" but had to go get 'em out, get the ashtray out, smoke one cig while standing in the kitchen. No convenient pack and ashtray and lighter at my side (every freaking spot in the house :) ).

Don't beat yourself up if you have a cig now and then. Long as you're smoking less, it's good. Just start shifting things toward vaping and away from smoking. Keep exploring the liquids out there, find the ones you really like. The more you enjoy vaping, the less you'll care about smoking.

I'm a big believer in doing "positive reinforcement" instead of "negative". I think if you focus on enjoying your vaping, you'll drift away from the smoking. Until you just can't figure out why you ever bothered with those awful tasting things. :)

Hello & congrats... You're on your way. Like yourself I was a pretty heavy "analog" smoker for several years as well and up until about a few days ago, after about a month of vaping & smoking simultaneously, those Marlboro Reds that tasted so delicious to me daily, just happened to make me feel sick. I literally just lost my taste for them. I definitely chain vaped and I think this may have helped. Everyone's body is different. Getting down to 15 is a great accomplishment. You'll do it! Good luck!

Same here. I remember the first time I gave into the impulse to have a "real one" and it didn't just taste bad, it gave me a headache.

Got to where if I had that "I wanna real one" impulse, it made me feel a little nauseated...

As a recent convert to vapeing I was curious about all aspects of trading logs for vapor.
where why how of my addiction to nicotine, it was said to me that nicotine is very effective
at masking stress and we use cigarettes to lower our stress levels. Ironically while emotionally
suppressing us it is also suppressing other important physiological aspects of our immune system and
of coarse lowering our ability to exchange carbon-dioxide for oxygen.
So look at the things that are raising your stress levels and try to rationalize between your
physical nicotine addiction and your emotional suppression needs .

Dosing yourself correctly with nicotine using a Personal Vaporizer and overcoming the desire to
light up a cigarette is the key to quitting.
New users need to dose themselves at either a higher concentration or with more frequent application to
cover their individual circumstance as reflect in many anecdotal reports here on ECF.

If you are correctly dosed, lighting a cigarette and attempting to smoke the entire thing should be a near impossibility
as it should and will taste all wrong. resist urge not vape so you can enjoy a log.

Keep your dosage consistent purchase assayed nicotine level juice and all will be fine.

Personally I find my self with 2 different juices in to separate atomizers one with a pipe tobacco flavor and the other coffee
at different strengths 12 mg in my constant unit and 18 in the other standby to knock down any emerging craving.

A bit of menthol or clove here and there as a switch as the olfactory glands do get a bit blanked out at times
which does not seem to happen with logs but that is more likely they have been completely dulled by the acrid smoke
from the log

So many people here have switched and all are better for it keep going ask for advice whenever you want.

I understand how you feel. I still smoke every day, but have been able to cut back quite a bit, with the goal to keep lowering the number smoked per day.

I have seen people comment here on the forum that using juices that contain Naturally Extracted Tobaccos (NETs) helps with the craving. I am just starting to look into this and experiment a little, so I cannot say much about it yet, but have read that it helps others. I will say though that the most comforting vape I've had thus far was when I dripped some Heather's Heavenly Vapes "Legend" juice.
