Welcome aboard! I'm still too new to say one is better than another, but you already made your first good decision. I used my blu for a week before ordering a 510. 20x better IMO.

I 'definitely' recommend you start with a ($40 shipped) Manual Joye 510 (no box) Starter Kit from Cignot.com You get two complete eCigs with a wall charger and 5 pre-filled cartridges. (I recommend the Marlboro high nicotine ones). The Joye 510 produces TONS of vapor & flavor and is the highest quality ecig out there for the Money.. hands down. While you're there... go ahead & order some of their Joye Smoke/tobacco flavored Nicotine Liquids.... 24 mg strength is a great Nicotine level and will keep you away from the Analogs. I've tried EVERYTHING and in my humble opinion nothing comes close to the Joye 510 eCig... (except for the Janty eGo and some of the more expensive mods and what have you)... but since $ is an issue, as it is for MOST of us, then the Joye 510 is what you NEED to start with... and end with. You could also add a Personal Charging Case for $25.00 while you're there at Cignot too. That allows you to re-charge your eCigs while you're out & about.. and the PCC sort of resembles a traditional cigarette pack/case. That's OK.. you can THANK me later.. they ALL do.. (Be sure to tell 'em Eve sent ya!!!) ;):D

This is a tentative list of what I'm deciding to order by friday. Any suggestions on what not to buy or what to stick with would be appreciated, as it'll be my first order!

+Joye 510 NoBox with USB Passthru - (White catridges will be Round tip)
--Included in this kit are 2 complete Joye 510 cigarettes (2 atomizers and 2 batteries), 5 prefilled carts, 1 AC Charger, 1 USB passthru, and your choice of 2 accessories......$62
+Joye 510 Empty Cartridges -BLACK
+Joye 510 Extended Life Battery - AUTOMATIC Blue LED
+Joye eGo - Black Manual

--Included in this kit are 2 650mah batteries, 1 atomizer, 1 atomizer cover, 5 prefilled carts (Marlboro High), 1 USB charger, 1 AC to USB adapter, 1 pouch, 1 instruction sheet.......$78
+Joye eGo Battery - Manual Black
+And a TON of 5ml bottles of various flavored juices--mostly VG.

Thanks Eve!

I've kinda settled on the 510, just because it's so common and so well liked here, apparently. Like I said earlier, it means I'll have lots of options for customization, flavors, competition between suppliers, etc....

Seems like the best choice all-around to start out with. Money isn't really an issue with me, I just want to get started with something good... I'll prolly have a Bill-Gates-style collection of other models in 6-12 months, but I want to get off the analogs as fast as I can, and not waste cash or (mostly) time in the process.

The one thing I *do* like about the smokingstick I erroneously purchased as a noob, is the auto function. Regardless of where I get my first 510, I'll prolly switch to auto battys... I just like 'em.

Thanks for the advice!!

If you go the eGo you can eliminate the 510 kit and extra battery. You can use all the 510 stuff with the eGo so if you want 2 kits then all stuff would be interchangeable. I started on 510, 31 days ago and have graduated to the eGo :) Good call on little bottles of juice. You'd be suprised what you end up actually likeing :D

Yep, I've been so indecisive between the two kits that I may just end up splurging on both. I'd heard that certain parts of 510 and eGo are interchangeable, so it'd be a good way to introduce myself to experimenting with e-cigs, I guess.

We'll see!

I definitely thought I should stock up on as many different flavors of juice as I could. From what I've gathered here, a cartridge does NOT equal a pack of regular cigs, and I'd hate to invest in these only to return to those after running out of juice! Hence the extra, empty cartridges!

Hi all... total noob to this stuff here, but I thought I'd report on my (all of) 3 days experience with vaping. I'll also have to watch this thread for posts on what to get, and I have a question or two myself.

Anyway, I've been smoking like a damn freight-train for almost 26 years. I knew I needed to get off the analogs, they're killing me... so on a lark, I ordered one from smokingstick.com. DON'T get this one, other noobs... with a little research after my initial impulse-order, I realize now that I got had. Chalking it up to experience. it took almost a month to show up, is overpriced, and tastes, well, kinda funky. Q for the Pros: What model is this, what carts will work on the btty/atty I already have until I get a good e-cig?

(For other noobs, or those thinking about starting vaping:) That said, I've been totally won over to vaping by this inferior, overpriced thing... I don't EVER want to go back to analogs again. As crappy as it is, it converted me. I smoked a pack and a half a day for years of Natural American Spirits (the blue packs); very, VERY strong cigs. First day of vaping, I went from 30 spirtits to 13... second day I had 6 analogs... third only 3... and in just three days, I can notice my lungs clearing up. Swear to the Big One Upstairs, I can feel increased lung capacity. Longtime heavy smokers, you know that nasty hack in the morning? I'm still having it, and during the day sometimes (like always), but there's less crap coming up, like the old windbags are getting a chance to "clear themselves", you know? And it was nowhere near as bad today as it was 3, or 30, or 300 , or 3000 days ago. The craving for a "real" smoke is getting less and less... I even notice myself craving now the "funky" taste of this crappy, lowbrow thing I bought by mistake! Honest, they really work.

Ok, so now another Q for the Pro's:

After reading the forums here a bit... well, it's sooooo much info to absorb, and I'm running low on carts (lol)... time is a factor here. I'm thinking the first decent PV I'll get should be a Joye 510 (501)? They appear to be the most popular, or at least very common. That means to me that there will be many parts, carts, atty and batt'y suppliers to choose from. Where should I look for a starter kit that's reasonably priced and ships quick? Not like I'll stick with that particular supplier, but just to get started with a 510 that isn't impossible to find parts for? Looks like I'll be forced back on analogs for a while until I can get set up... but once I get a decent PV, I'm NEVER going back to analogs. (ok, maybe once in a blue moon when I go to New Orleans, but otherwise, NEVAH).

Also, I'd like to mention that the idea of hundreds of different flavors for my "nici-fix" is AMAZING. I mentioned how I now crave the crappy taste of this thing I bought... made me think of how tobacco first tasted (like s**t, honestly), but then it becomes a taste you crave. I look forward to experimenting with different flavors & will post "recipes" as I come up with 'em... :) BTW, I'm also a longtime Absintheur, and I think my first Holy Grail will be a passable "Absinthe" mix....

Anyway, for all here, thanks for this forum; vaping may very well add many years to my life. I'll be around for good.

You can get the 510. Everyone does. I have tons of atomizers and batteries for the 510 sitting in a box. I put them there after getting the KR808. Sometimes I even get the 510 out for old times' sake, but then I put it back and pick up the KR808 again. Do whatever you like, but eventually, you will probably buy a KR808. I use the cartomizers with an adapter on my EGO all day long and carry the regular batteries to use when I am out. I just found the whole kit at Analog Alternative, The Smoking Alternative for $34.95 including shipping. I bought two kits.

Since you don't seem to have too much of a cost limit I'll add this suggestion. Get a 510 to KR808D-1 adapter. This will work with either the 510 or the eGo. Go to Vapor4Life and get a bunch of their sampler packs of cartomizers. Even if you don't care for cartomizers over the cartridge and atomizer setup of the 510 you will have an easy way to sample a number of different juice flavors easily.

Thanks tons, y'all.

Tomorrow is payday, and I've already got a couple hundred bucks earmarked for vaping. I'm just praying I won't have to go back to analogs because my shipment didn't show up in time. Won't it be nice when we can buy basic supplies at the local "Stop-and-Rob" as easily as smokers do now?

Kinda decided on a 510, but I hear good things about the "Crate-08", so that'll be my next one to try.

Thanks again everyone

OK, so.... after some further research, I've concluded that the one I got before I knew anything must be a DS-103. Not bad, but not at all worth what I paid for it. Live and learn.

Thank G-d for Cignot.com! What fast shipping... I only got 10 carts with it (the DS-103), and damn near ran out and was forced back onto analogues for a bit, but I got a 6.5 ml bottle of Black Ice from Cignot just in time (two whole days for shipping... wow. Ordered Wednesday morning, in my mailbox Friday afternoon. With a hand-written smiley face on the invoice, no less). Having read this forum like mad for the last week sure helped, learning that I could just refill the carts I had. I'd also like to profusely thank all the experienced vapers here in this thread who lended advice.

Anyway, I thought I'd post my first *real* order, as a still-noob vaper who kinda-sorta knows a little now (thanks to all your help). Wanted to get your opinions...

I also ordered 100 ml of PG and 3x30ml of juice from Wicked (the Decadent Vapours line)... all should be here Monday, Tuesday at the latest, based on experience with Cignot. Locally, I picked up a DC converter for my truck, DC to USB (2 USB ports), and some pipettes and mixing bottles. Still haven't found a local source of PG tho.

Might be a bit of overkill, but I look at it this way: I had the disposable income to spare, I've just realized that I thought NOTHING of plunking down $150 a month for tobacco for years... so just short of 3 Franklins for hardware that will last more than just a little while & enough juice for prolly 2 1/2 months seems like a bargain. Especially since I'm no longer killing myself, lol.

One thing I would like to point out for other noobs... I smoked some pretty strong baccy, and the 25mg juice is plenty, plenty strong. And I'm understating it. Ordered all those 5ml flavors before I got (and had a chance to try) the one bottle of Black Ice to "tide me over". I think I'll stick with the 25mg and either cut my vaping back or just thin it out with the PG to start off with, and take some time to find my "equilibrium". All the spare battys and attys are so I don't have to worry about not being able to vape for lack of parts.... I NEVER want to go back to analogues again.

Next (other than trying lots of different flavors and suppliers), I think I'll take sherid's advice and try a KR808 ("crate-oh-eight"?), and maybe a few other models. Just one of each, maybe one new one every month or two, for research purposes.

Thanks again everyone! Comments?

I really like my Volcano and my Magma. The volcano reminds me of ultra light cigs and the magma is more of a marbrol red/mild experience.

Be careful about using the 510 cartos with the ego. I love the cartos, but I just shorted out an eGo after only 3 days of use. I was using cartos on it, and I've heard that can cause a short in the eGo/Tornado Battery.

I've had my EGO for three months and use only cartomizers with no issues. Maybe it's the battery itself causing the problem. If you bought at Janty, they will replace the battery.
