They most certainly can be cheaper.

I'm not a huge fan of rebuildable tanks, mainly because you have to tear down the entire tank to get to the wick and coil. But I love the simplicity of a rebuildable dripper. You take the cap off and the wick and coil is right there for easy access.

With my RDA (dripper), I change the wick (I use Rayon, but you can also use cotton) about every 3 - 4 days, and dry burn the coil clean before replacing the new wick. The dry burned coils last me 2 - 3 months.

Cotton/Rayon is cheap -- a year's supply for about $5. A spool of Kanthal wire is about $8 and will last over a 2 years.

Yeah, me either. But they are a great place to start and pretty portable. One step up from an e-pen style. (or non rba tank)

This vaping game is going to turn into a full time job now !!
Until you gain some skills to cut down the time involved, it doesn't have to be that time consuming.

My first coil build on an old Genesis-style RTA took me nearly 45 minutes! But Gennies are tough, especially for beginners.

I can now make a coil for my dripper in about 3 - 4 minutes. Keep in mind I only have to make a new coil every 2 - 3 months.

Changing the wick takes about 3 minutes. 1 minute to dry burn a coil. That's every 3 - 4 days.

ok this is just me showing off my new shinnies. DON'T try this build until you are very comfortable building. I vaped for 6 months, used hundreds of feet of wire, 6 pouches of cotton, picked MOOCH's brain like a zombie, spend 12 hours on battery forums, and had a 30 minute discussion with my vendor before I even TOUCHED a mechanical mod, like the one i am using here...

This is on a Drip Atomizer

This build is at 0.09 ohms, but if it came in at 0.08 I would have trashed the coil and rebuilt it. I usually shoot for 0.1 to 0.12 to 0.15.

*and note.. i did NOT show how to make the coils. Just stated the resistance*

LMAO.. Toodlepuffer.. LOL.. j/k. I make like 2 coils every day or 2. (3 once i get the part for my Tsunami). Different wire, coils, builds, wicks.. Its a hobby though, and kept my mind off stinkies during that first couple months.
Edit... LOL I once spent 8 hours, from midnight to 8 am building a coil build. Not one vape the whole time, I was preoccupied with the coil build.

I don't particularly like making coils. I worked in a vape shop where I had to be proficient in making coils. My co-workers made a new fancy coil every day, it was a hobby to them. That wasn't my thing. My simple coils worked just as good as their exotic coils.
