Hi. I'm former analog smoker of Indonesian kretek (clove) cigarettes, I am now trying to get into vaping. I purchased a Joyetech Evic VTC Mini, using Creme de la Creme: Vanilla Cream e-juice (6mg). I'm using the following settings on my device: Atomizer 0.20 ohms; Power 35w, 2.65V

The thing that's bothering me is the intense pain I get when trying to do a D2L (direct to lung/direct inhale) in my throat. Really, really, reaaaaaly painful. Like, needles in my throat painful. However, when I go for the M2L (mouth-to-lung) inhale, the speed at which the vapor passes through my throat is very fast (very fast transit), and there's almost no pain. When I do the M2L draw, I don't get to taste any flavor in the juice at all (probably because of the speed of it travelling through my throat).

Has anyone else had this? Is this a symptom of an allergy? I haven't been able to find much of any information on the e-juice itself. Would love to hear from other members.

r u getting a dry hit? did u try changing the wick?
I'm using the coil set right out of the box pictured below (the one on the left: CL-Ni 0.2)

I also put a number of drops before the first use into the coil itself as advised.

i'm using a subtank, n i've never try the occ b4. maybe u can try to do sm primer puff n see if the problem still persist.
Stings even more on direct inhale after a primer puff... Thanks for your advice though. I have a replacement coil coming in shortly and will try to swap out the (2 day) old one, along with a Kangertech Subtank Mini. Do you reckon it could be the juice that's the problem?

It seems that your nicotine rate is higher than 6 mg/ml. If your nic rate is higher than 6mg/ml direct lung inhale is not reccomended. Sub-ohm users should get low nic liquids. on the other hand you can use them as mouth to lung very well. Some says that over the 1 ohm users shold get more than 6 mg/ml but I use a narrow airflow and mouth to lung inhale.

Quick question: Is the nicotine felt faster with the direct inhale than with mouth-to-lungs? Also, flavor-wise how do direct-inhale vs mouth-to-lungs compare?

I dont think so.
The artificial nicotine is mainly absorbed by skin. So if you keep the vapour in your mouth it would be absorbed faster than lung inhale. Somewhere I had read that direct lung inhale doesnt show nic absobing. (Cigarette nic is comes to blood in lungs) It is different with our nic. Anyway I prefer mouth to lung all the time.
Also for aroma or anything else, I dont obey rules I just enjoy. Whatever I like is my rule :)

So, as it turns out, the 0.2Ohm coil/wick that came in the box was burnt, probably because I didn't load it with enough juice before the first use. Well, after switching to a new Kanger subtank and coil, no problems, smooth as a whistle. This got me thinking, so I swapped in a replacement coil on my old set, and voila, no pain upon direct inhale. That's what was causing the pain...a burnt wick, fyi.
