Hello All ECF members.:) This has been a long time coming. I am a 41 years old female and have been smoking for 25 years at 2 packs a day. I have tried everything under the sun to stop this habit. I really need to quit. I am the mother of three beautiful children, youngest is 11. I get Bronchitis every winter and have had phemonia 4 times with being in the hospital for a week evry time. This is not to even mention the money that I spend on this habit. I get the dirtiest looks known to man, I smell like an ashtray. I look older than I am, and I am out of breathe easily, and cough as a constant some days. No asthma and no doctor telling me I have to quit, as a matter of fact I have been told my lungs sound and look good. I however am sick and tired of this lifestyle. Thing is I am so totally addicted to smoking. I enjoy how it makes me feel inside. I feel so in control and calm. I bought 3 safe ciggs and the refills etc about two months ago.
This morning I woke up and said enough. I have been vaping almost constant. I do feel itchy to have the real deal, but I won't let myself do that. I am a all in or all out kind of person. God let me make this. Let me find a way to end this once and for all. I am not looking to get off the nicotine, doctor says that part is actually okay for me. I know it seems so weak to say this, but I am scared. Scared of failure, scared of success ( am I going to be happy without smokes?) I am so grateful this forum exists! Maybe just maybe I can make it. All I am worried about is today. Thanks For Listening
:D.

Welcome to the forum! Any questions you have, please don't hesitate to ask.

I was a long time smoker- close to 30 years. My mom (smoked 60 years!) and I started vaping together and both quit. I never intended or thought I'd quit. I thought maybe I could cut down. I found gradually I liked vaping more than smoking.

Don't put too much pressure on yourself. Start out slowly if you need to. Read through the tutorial on the front page of the forum. So many great tips about how to select a pv and juice can be found there.

Hello Blinky and welcome.

I know for a fact that we're all scared of failing, but that doesn't stop us from trying over and over. Ecigs are not a miracle device that makes quitting a guarantee. They do involve research, experimenting, and most all commitment. What you find works for you now, may not do the same thing in a month or so. You may change PVs a dozen times before you find something that really does it for you. Same with juices. The thing to remember is that, same as you, we all struggle everyday to keep quitting and not go back. You may slip and have a analog every now and then. So what? It's better than the forty you use to have everyday. Just keep working at it, keep coming here for advice and help, and never stop quitting. :)

Thank ALL of you for the Kind Welcome:) I started with a new refill thingie:) This morning and its only 11:30am here and I just had to change it. That means I'm going to be going threw around three a day. It started getting leaky so I figured that meant it was time for a new one. Day One- Holding up by the hair of me chinny chin chin:) LOL.

You might want to consider upgrading to a different pv.

I didn't want to spend a lot when I started because I didn't know if it would work for me. I bought a $30 riva kit from Liberty Flights, 2 boxes of cartomizers and a couple drip tips. Bought about 30 ml of juice from a juice vendor (got lucky and loved it) and the whole thing cost me around $70. That was less than I paid for a carton of cigarettes.

Oh and one more thing. I'm sure they'll be some people who will give you crap for the ecig you choose to start with, tell you need to change immediately, blah, blah, blah.

Tell them to piss up a rope. If it works for you, then that's all that matters. You decide when you ready to maybe make a change.

Sorry Swedish. We were typing at the same time and I, of course, didn't mean it towards you.

That's OK! I know what you mean and do agree with you about that!

The big answer to this isn't always in the next mail delivery. Stick with what you've got unless it absolutely doesn't work for you.

OMG Rebel, You just gave me the biggest laugh:) Piss up A Rope? That's the funniest thing I have heard in a long time! Ahhahahahah!

Sorry, sometimes my fingers speak before my mind can catch up. But you get the idea. If what you're using is working for you then keep using it. Take some time and educate yourself on vaping. This website is a bottomless pit of knowledge and you'll be a PV pro before you know. Then you can decide if making a change is worth it. The important thing is that you've made the decision to change your life for the better. Stick with it, it's well worth the trip.

I have the SafeCig. I like the feel, but still trying to find the best way to in hail on it and hate that it starts to leak after a bit. Oh well, to broke to make any now changes so here goes:)

I'm not familiar with that brand, but I'm sure with a little searching, you can find some help to stop the leaking and get the most out it. Good luck!

Just remember if you smoke one, it's totally NOT a failure. Vaping needs a determined and persistent trial as I am discovering. Every one that I/we don't smoke is a victory in and of out itself. Like Swedish Fish said, don't pressure yourself. Relax and take it easy and see if you don't actually ENJOY vaping, not just as a replacement for smoking analogs.

Congratulations on your decision to try Vaping!

Congrats for making the switch over to vaping and giving up smoking. I was like you and others, smoked 2 packs a day for too many years to mention. Nothing worked. Nada.

Cold Turkey = 8 cigarettes each time. (so roughly, about 160 avoided over 20 years)
Paxil = zero cigs avoided. I became content and indifferent. Didn't much matter one way or another.
Nicotine Patch = 12 cigarettes avoided. (had to rip it off and keep it off due to the rash and itching)
Nicorette Gum = 12 cigarettes avoided each time. (roughly, about 160 avoided over 20 years of trying HARD to quit)
Hypnotist = 16 cigarettes avoided. (I went 4 whole hours!!!!)
Church = nada... just a bunch of shame and guilt. But I did train myself to have OJ with my cigs.)
Electronic Cigarette = THOUSANDS of cigarettes avoided!!!!!

When I relapse, due to stress or cantankerousness, I am still ahead of the game. I go back to vaping instead of the list of non working ways of old. These past 2 years I've relapsed a few times, but guess what? I've still NOT smoked THOUSANDS!!! because I always go back to vaping instead of cold turkey. (echo lol)
I now have fun counting how many cigarettes I haven't had.

Good luck!!!

edited to say: I smoked for 40 plus years. 20 years of ignorant bliss, then over 20 years of frantically trying to quit.

Blinky, you will find that there will be issues, like leaking. Cigs are easy, light it and youre done, vaping involves a little more work, but it is well worth it. I started vaping with an e cig that i havent even looked at for months now, but it was enough to get me to quit smoking and i quickly became addicted to vaping and all the craziness that surrounds it! When I smoked my last cig (about 2-3 days into starting vaping), for the first time ever i thought "Oh my gawd, these things taste awful!!" I had never thought that before, even after quitting for periods of time and starting up again. If you get frustrated, dont give up! Ask in here for advice or suggestions, go with a different unit, you WILL find your happy place!
