Thanks a bunch, venkman. I'm just starting to refil cartos and am running into the same problem - not knowing when to quit before burning. Your suggestion should do the trick.

Coughing bad: I've been using this advice from venkman's previous post:
"i found that the best method for me was what i called the "thermometer shake." pop off the white cap, and remove the silicone ring.
This idea is based around the fact that an 808 carto lasts longer than an 808 battery (i use the the "regular", not the short or XL)...so if you change you're carto whenever you change batts, u'll pretty much never burn a carto.
I have exactly the same problem.
For me it is hard to keep these cartos from tasting burnt. Like this one i am vaping now, it was brand new, i just filled it up last nite. i dont think it had a chance to become dry because everytime i tried to refill, it only took a little and the juice came out the other end, yes i am using the condom method. It already started tasting funny...
Like biciporrero, i also pay about 2 bucks for a carto, mines are boge low resistance ones. Maybe thats why they burn faster? With the rate it is going(dying), and before i can figure it out, vaping for me can cost as much as smoking ... :-(
