Thanks a bunch, venkman. I'm just starting to refil cartos and am running into the same problem - not knowing when to quit before burning. Your suggestion should do the trick. ;)

glad to help.
i used cartos exclusively for a while. i never bothered boiling or otherwise cleaning them. at 99 cents per carto, i felt my time was worth more than the pennies i'd save by cleaning them. when the performance dropped, or the taste became off, the carto would be tossed. maybe i'm jaded, because i was paying $10 a pack on Long Island, but if you get even just a few days (and i would consistently get longer than that out of a carto) out of something that costs 99 cents, it seems like a bigger waste of time to clean them than it is a waste of money to toss them.

I have exactly the same problem.

For me it is hard to keep these cartos from tasting burnt. Like this one i am vaping now, it was brand new, i just filled it up last nite. i dont think it had a chance to become dry because everytime i tried to refill, it only took a little and the juice came out the other end, yes i am using the condom method. It already started tasting funny...

Like biciporrero, i also pay about 2 bucks for a carto, mines are boge low resistance ones. Maybe thats why they burn faster? With the rate it is going(dying), and before i can figure it out, vaping for me can cost as much as smoking ... :-(

Coughing bad: I've been using this advice from venkman's previous post:

"i found that the best method for me was what i called the "thermometer shake." pop off the white cap, and remove the silicone ring. drip onto the filler/down the side of the carto until the filler looks wet, but not pooled with liquid. make sure you have a condom on the battery end, grasp the carto by the open end, and flick or shake it like you would an old thermometer. repeat this process until the filler still looks wet after shaking. it helps the juice absorb more quickly, thoroughly, and evenly. "

The thermometer shake gets it nice and wet. Not using condom filling anymore, at least for awhile. And I'm tossing anything that looks/tastes burnt. I'm trying to make sure I'm nowhere near empty before I refill. So far, this is the only way I've had success so far. It's more of a pain than the condom fill method, but it is easier than I thought...

I think some cartos have the ring under the cap, some don't. they don't seem to matter, as i've lost some and vaped on happily without them.

I'm not sure about what different vendors carry the clear cartos, but i do know that cloudsofvapor.com carries them. i've never tried them, but i have heard good things about them.

as far as .99 cartos, i used to get mine from vaporcountry.com. however, i just checked there, and they don't seem to carry the blanks right now. they do have menthol cartos @ 4.99 for a 5 pack. i did a quick search, and the cheapest blanks i came across was a 5 pack for 6.99 from eliquidplanet.com. but, if you search a little more, and maybe find a vendor with a good sale or coupon code, you should be able to find them for cheaper.

i could swear that a couple of months ago i could find blank 808 cartos for around 99 cents from more than one vendor...maybe they were just that cheap at vaporcountry. vaporcountry has a pretty mediocre website, but i always found their prices and customer service to be very good.

I have a Vapor King and have used V4L cartos. The ones I have purchased don't have anything but a soft white rubber ring with a hole in the end you smoke from. I've not found the rubber ring under that so far. I pop off the white smoking end periodically and if it looks the least bit dry, I drop some juice into by tipping it a little to the side and drop juice all around so the filler gets wet all the way around. I just keep something with me to pop off the white top to check the filling and don't let it get dry. I hope this makes sense. I know someone else could explain it better. Just PM me if you have questions. I'm new as well so I am still learning. I have a Vapor King and Joye eGo so I'm learning on both of these. I was afraid I would ruin my auto battery on the VK when I first started adding juice but I am careful not to overfill and have avoided a problem so far.

It depends on how dry it looks and how it appears as I'm dropping the juice down the side of the carto. I drop 1 drop at a time and turn it and drop another until I can tell it has gotten wet but not soaked in fluid. I have not gotten that dry, burned taste since I started using this method. Like I said, I'm new as well but this seems to be working for me. Hope you find this solves the problem. Happy vaping!

My 808 batteries from V4L (regular, not shorty or XL) last at least 4 hrs, if not all day, before they need to be recharged. Cartos, on the other hand, usually last me less than 4 hrs so this method wouldn't work for me. The fill method, on the other hand, is pretty much what I do except I don't bother to do the shake. Not sure what the silicone ring reference is though - my cartos don't have silicone rings.

This idea is based around the fact that an 808 carto lasts longer than an 808 battery (i use the the "regular", not the short or XL)...so if you change you're carto whenever you change batts, u'll pretty much never burn a carto.

I think it's worth spending the money on good blank cartos. I've been using the same one for a few weeks now, topping it off frequently. No burning & it still works just fine, so the slightly less than $2.00 for about a month of frequent use doesn't bother me a bit. A month of analogs cost me over $500 (they're over $8/pack here).

I don't clean or otherwise mess with cartos except to keep adding juice before it dries out (since I use different cartos for different flavors, there's no need to). I also use re-use cartos that I bought pre-filled & they last just as long, so if you have pre-filled cartos you don't have to buy blanks. I just make sure the new flavor going in for the first refill is relatively compatible with the old so the first few "mixed" vapes aren't terrible (like using an old chocolate carto for bananas foster and an old coffee carto for waffles).

I have exactly the same problem.
