Quick Intro:

I was a long time cig smoker (up to 2 packs a day) and since my April of last year, I decided to stop smoking seeing as my wife was pregnant with our first child. I started with disposable ecigs and then settled on the lozenges. It did the job for the most part except I was still using them more than a year after. I've now been introduced to the vapes and am really enjoying it.

My short lived Vape journey:

On Thanksgiving, my uncle brought me an iFill starter set and it was nothing but issues with leakage and gurgling. One day, I went to a local smoke shop asking for a replacement tank and being that the iFill is a 808D thread, he couldn't help with a replacement tank and with my little knowledge, he got me a "good" setup. I got a 650mah Uvape Tech battery with an ismoka clearo. While the ismoka worked ok at first, it really bothered my throat even with the various coils (1.8, 2.2 and 2.4 ohm).

I got on this site and have been reading more since and trying to learn more about vaping and all that's involved and it really is overwhelming, but I did manage to find a new tank (Kanger MT3S) based on information on here. I suspect that the generic battery I have probably isn't the best and I could benefit a bit more with something a little better. In particular, I would like something that is flush with my tank as my current battery is thinner. I've read many different terms used like ego, ego twist, winder, mods, spinner, mechanical, variable voltage, etc and I am really confused as to what may be more suitable for me.

Any help you can provide me would be greatly appreciated and same goes for keeping the dialogue/explanation/description at a newbie level.

Thanks,

Tony

I would recommend the ego c twist.

It's a variable voltage battery meaning you can change your voltage from 3.2 to 4.8 to alleviate any issues such as burning taste or not enough flavor/vapor. I also prefer the kanger protank 2 myself.

One thing I would highly recommend is a needle tip bottle cap as it makes filling a no mess experience as well as no worry about juice going in the center post.

Welcome,

I am not familiar with that tank so cant recommend a battery that I know will fit "flush" with it. I do know that for 808D threaded tanks and batteries I have used the stuff from HALO. I have moved up to the Variable voltage/wattage mods but still use my HALO Tritons & G6's daily. 510 threads are popular and widespread, but you can get a lot out of 808D threads at halocigs.com

Hope it helps

The ego twist with a protank was really good for me in the beginning. Still smoked a little though. After researching ECF I knew enough to get a mod that would stop the craving for good.. Settled on a bolt mod with stacked batteries and a 5 ohm carto tank. That device had the unf I needed. I have moved on since..

An ego style battery will allow for a flush fit with your MT3S tank, I would suggest going into a local B&M vaping store in your area and have them show you some of your options.

I think he means that the diameter of the MT3S tank is larger than the Ego battery, which is true

As Kaisen pointed out, I was speaking to the diameter of the tank being larger rather than what battery would actually fit it. I looked up the B&M stores in my area and there's one very close by, so I'll probably swing by tomorrow and ask some questions, but I would like to have a general understanding before heading in. Thanks for the responses.

You'll want VV/VW capability. If you don't plan on rebuilding and re-wicking your set up you might want to grab a few low-maintenance tanks. iClear and Protank are good ones. I prefer the iClear30-S but there's a plethora of tanks out by those two so you can decide based on personal preferences.

Jay-dub - Thanks for your response. I've read good things about the Protank II and there doesn't seem to be much difference between them from the reviews I read on here. I figured I would give the MT3S a try and if I didn't like it, I would go with the PTII, but I've been liking it so far. What do I want to look for in regards to the VV/VW tanks and do you have any recommendations? This will be a daily user and I don't vape much (i.e. less than 1.5-2ml a day), so I'm not looking to spend too much on it, but would like a decent one.

Thanks Rancor! I much appreciate the links. That's very helpful. Do you know if the eGo Twist is the same diameter as the MT3S? Also, as a quick understanding, is the general rule, the higher the voltage, the greater the flavor/burning taste and lower the voltage the less flavor/burning taste?

Thanks LedCatcher. The 808D thread was with the iFill that has since been replaced with a UVape Tech battery, so no need for 808D product anymore. Good to know should I decide to use the iFill battery again though.

Beazy - I don't have much of a nicotine withdrawl or urge to smoke much these days and I'm only using a 6mg nicotine ejuice, so a simple, yet functional ego/mod is what I'm looking for. Did you really mean a 5 ohm carto or 5mL carto? I've only seen coils as high as 2.5 ohms, but I'm a newbie. Also, what is UNF?

Hi Tony. First, welcome to ECF! Everyone will have an opinion on what you should do, and here's mine :). If you are liking the MT3s tank, stick with it. I've been using mini T3's (the clear, smaller version of what you are using, takes the same coils) for almost a year now, and I'm still thrilled with them. They are easy, functional, and relatively problem-free. For a battery upgrade, I would recommend a 1300 Spinner. It will seem big at first, but the body of it is roughly the same diameter as the tank. There will still be a "neck" that dips in where the button is, but they look nice together. As for the ohms on the coil head replacements for your tank, they generally come in a choice of 1.8, 2.2, or 2.5. If you are using a variable voltage battery, like the Spinner, it doesn't matter too much which you get, as you will adjust the voltage of the battery to your liking. It's a simple twist dial on the bottom. Personally, I usually get the lower resistance 1.8s, as I still have some non-VV eGos, too, and I like a hotter vape. Hope that's helpful!

Thanks Lisa! Would you happen to have a link to the 1300 Spinner you're recommending? So the lower the ohms the hotter the vape and the higher the ohms the smoother the vape? Is that right? Can you help me understand the relationship betweent he resistance/ohms and voltage and how they affect one another?

I also see people on here mention the ejuice ratios of 80/20, 70/30, 50/50. Can you help me understand that as well and how often the coils will need replacing? It seems that the replacement of coils varies considerably depending on the person responding here.

I have several Spinners, and have purchased them at various places. None of them have died on me, I just like to have lots of options :). Here is where I got them most recently Joye eGo Rechargeable Batteries . They are not genuine Vision Spinners, but they are very good quality, and the best price I've seen for the quality. You're in California, too--they were at my door within a couple of days from ordering, since they are in Arizona.

Basically you are right on the ohms/resistance. I'm pretty sure someone will jump in here with the exact formula and/or a really helpful graphic (Ocelot? Baditude? Where are you?), but it's an inverse relationship between volts (which you will adjust with the dial on the battery) and resistance of the coil on your tank (lower ohms/lower resistance, more power getting through) equals the wattage heating the coil. So, low voltage/higher resistance=a cooler coil, high voltage/low resistance=a hotter coil. If you have a fixed voltage battery, like you do now, you can only adjust the wattage by changing coils. If you have a variable voltage battery, like the Spinner, Twist, or Winder (among many others), you can adjust the wattage by turning up the voltage.

Now, on to juice... The ratios refer to percentage of propylene glycol (PG) to vegetable glycerin (VG). Many e-juice vendors will allow you to customize your percentages, and what you get is pretty much up to personal preference. VG tends to produce more vapor, whereas PG is a better flavor carrier. I usually get 50/50. I find it's a good balance, and many people find it a good place to start, then move from there if it isn't working for you.

Replacing coils... Um, yeah, it totally varies from person to person, and your juice. Basically, when it seems like your vape isn't as good anymore, change the coil. You can clean them, and you can get into re-coiling, but I'm not going to go into all that right now. There are people that can explain it a lot better than I can. I'm going to say a coil will likely last you 1-2 weeks, but if you aren't a heavy vaper, it may go a lot longer than that.

edited to add: The link I put makes it sound like the battery is actually a Joye Twist. It isn't. It's absolutely a Spinner knock-off.

Thank you very much for the thorough responses Lisa! It really helps gets a good general understanding of all this. In looking around, the Innokin Cool Fire 1 looks like a nice setup, although it's a 510 thread which means that I would either need to change tanks to say a PT 2 or get an adapter to accommodate the MT3S. Any experience or thoughts on the Cool Fire?

Nope, no experience with it, whatsoever. There's a review on it here, though: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...0-innokin-coolfire-i-ii-review-lorddavon.html
