I've been a faithful smoker for 15 years ( basically half my life ) and I'm just now getting the courage to try ecigs. But with so many options I'm feeling very overwhelmed. Some background info - I currently smoke salem slim 100's and have for years, since they stopped making/selling camel Turkish jades. I want a quality ecig, not a piece of junk, I don't want to have to use the liquid stuff, and right now I'm leaning towards green smoke. But before I spend $100 I figure I'd ask for help here. I have tried the disposable blu and it makes me cough, and the n joy disposable which doesn't make me cough. I'd be lying if I said I'm going to try to quit nicotine but now that I'm getting old my lungs hurt when I wake up in the morning and I figure that's probably not good. Thanks in advance for any help.

This isn't a review of the Green Smoke unit, but it has a lot of good information concerning "cig-a-like" format e-cigs. Don't be surprised if you warm up to the idea of buying bottles of juice after burning through a bunch of cartomizers.

So, ya think the tank 'n liquid ones look a bit silly? Yeah, me too ..... at first. I tried the throw-aways, didn't work for me. Felt I wasted my money. A friend loaned me his tank 'n liquid setup for a few hours. Bought mine the next day, and after 50+ years of smoking, I haven't looked back. It's been 5 months.
Plenty of flavors to choose from which makes vaping a much more pleasureable experience than "stinkies".......AND you're not banished to the "leper colony" to satisfy your craving. I, too, have no present desire to give up nicotine, just wanted to get way from analogs and be a bit more socially acceptable. Plus, it makes the Little Lady happy around the house. If you try one of those "liquid stuff" setups you just might be pleasantly surprised.

Problem is the price of the cartos: $3. You can do better. The threading is 808D-2, which is pretty unique (but you can get adapters). No refillable carto option, no minitank option.
I'd suggest a Halo G6 instead (808D-1, far more popular). You'll have the option of refilleable cartos, and a minitank. You can keep using the same carto/minitank if you ever move up to the Triton (which gives you an extra option of a much larger tank).
(Smokeless Image has a similar offering, but IMO not quite as good)

I started out with a Greensmoke kit. The biggest downside is the very short battery life - as Txaggiesaunt said, they need to be charged every 2-3 hours, so I was constantly swapping batteries on and off the charger. Their pre-filled cartos are expensive and proprietary (you can't use any other brand because the battery/cartomizer threading is different). On the upside, their flavors are pretty good. They were good enough to keep me off of cigarettes, but I quickly got tired of the battery charging shuffle and moved on to an eGo setup which offered much better battery life and the ability to try many different flavors.
Greensmoke were my "training wheels" when I started vaping and quit smoking. They are quality but expensive. Quickly found the battery life and capacity lacking in the cigalike form factor. Now vape on an itaste with an rsst, but I like to tinker and don't care what my setup looks like. I would take a look at Youtube reviews from people such as pbusardo.
Hi Stella, I noticed you're in Houston, do your self a favor and try visiting some local vape shops so you can try before you buy . If they aren't willing to let you try their products walk out but you should be able to find one that will . Try looking on this site or google it and call. It's worth your time to do a little research and keep yourself from wasting money . I've used both Blu and Greensmoke and wasted about 300 dollars between them. They might work for a very light smoker but I couldn't get enough nicotine out of them and I wish I had that money to spend now . Good luck !
I recommend you check out Electronic Cigarettes of Houston if you are reasonably close to Katy. They are located just off I-10 and Grand Pkwy and are very nice, helpful, and knowledgeable people. Another shop located close to my side of Houston is Create-E-Cig, on Westheimer not far from the Galleria but I do NOT recommend them based on some bad experiences. Also they don't carry any stick batteries or prefilled cartomizers which is what you seem to be looking for at this point.
Edit: Do yourself a favor and avoid the many "smoke" shops around town. I've checked out several (5+) and I have yet to find one that was not horribly overpriced.

but as stated you can't use any other products with it....but it's something to try if you are really stuck in the mind set that it must look like a cigarette and only want to use prefilled carts.
What caused you to cough could be the difference in the nic levels, higher nic levels tend to give more of a throat hit
I know at first it is kind of a strange thought "smoking" on something that looks so odd....but keep in mind, this is not smoking, it is actually vaping
please try to clear your mind of anything connecting what we do with smoking and you will soon be much happier and healthier if you can get past the whole mindset of it must look like a cigarette the best starter kit and could essentially be your one and only kit
would be to purchase a 1300 mAh variable voltage spinner (it's about the size of a highlighter) the higher the mAh a battery is the longer the battery life, you want variable voltage because different juices taste different (better) at different voltages and a spinner because it's easier to read the numbers to change the voltage on.
While cartomizers are nice and convent they can be costly, hit and miss on taste and tend to dry out easily and in the end if you go to trying to refill your own is more of a pain then getting a tank such as an evod or vivi nova which are easy to fill and hold more juice than a cartomizer (the cig look a like nic containers) and you can buy juice a lot cheaper to refill tanks with than buying some premade cartomizer. Plus with tank systems it is easier to see when you need to refill than it is with the cig look a likes and you run it dry and get that nasty burnt wick taste.
I can not give you any help on Green, just the disposable type found in gas stations.

The last 2 carts I took some hits and chucked 'em.
Two years later, I watched a uTube of PBusardo smoking Crab flavor
Just watch the video, I think it's the same juice in the pre-filled one I tried in 2011.
Sad, but thanks to Phil Busardo and a 5' nothing 95 year old, I tried 'em again with a few different flavors this past July.
Stinky free since August 3rd, 2013... and I didn't smell like crabs to do it!

I guess the liquid stuff seems intimidating. Having only ever bought the disposable ecigs, which require no filling, changing, or charging I think I was trying to find something simple. But if liquid is the way to go I could always learn.
it might seem intimidating, but honestly it is not...it is very simply and they make premade juices which is way cheaper than keep buying prefilled carts.
Just buy ya a bottle of premade juice in a flavor you like, add 1ml up to 3ml (depending on the tank size) screw it onto your battery and vape away as apposed to the carts that come with cig look a likes that only hold about 5 drops of juice.
And once you feel brave enough you can even try to diy juice (it's fun but addictive and really not at all difficult....kinda like cooking, just get a good calculator and follow the recipe and you can make yourself all kinds of delicious vapes)

Ok so after reading all these replies ( thank you all, very much ) it looks like I'm going to start learning about the " liquid stuff " . I will watch/read all the recommended articles and I will be back tomorrow with my new questions. Hopefully by then I will no longer be referring to it as liquid stuff and thank you all again!

I'm currently using GreenSmoke; not bad, I don't regret it (1 month and 1 week off cigarettes so far), but wish I've done what your doing now and asked first. GreenSmoke has a good product and I like the flavor of their Red Label cartos, but I'm already looking to change my setup to something else (the liquid stuff). There are so much more options if you go the liquid stuff path, and in the long run is much, much cheaper.

If you have a Green Smoke, you can get adapters from v2cigs to convert from KR-808D-2 (GS) to KR-808D-1 threading, and use cartos and minitanks from V2, Halo, Smokeless Image, etc...
