Hi I'm new obviously...My hubby and I are looking into starting... I've been reading a lot. We have a tight budget so I'm not sure how soon we're going to be able to start. We smoke a pack to a pack 1/2 a day each. I smoke lights he smokes full flavors (the lights kind of hurt my throat but ultra lights just don't cut if or me). I think I've settled on 510s with larger manual batteries. I saw a video series on youtube (the zigcig or zeecig series) and he strongly reccomended the manual batteries. I was thinking two batts, atties, and 3 batteries to start. It doesn't seem too hard to add on once you get past the initial cost of starting.

What I'm wondering is if anyone has any opinions for a beginner.... if it's better to drip, use standard refillable cartridges or to go with the carts that don't have filling? I know we won't want to JUST drip because we travel a bit for work. The regular cartridges sound like a bit of a pain but I've seen a lot of mixed review on the ones that don't have any filler.

I wish we could start today. I'm not sure if I'm more excited about feeling better or all the new flavors that will be available. Oh one more question. I'm taking it that since it's just nicotene not tabacco... the flavors won't taste like say chocolate mixed with cigaratte smoke?

I can only speak from the information I gathered here and elsewhere over the last few weeks, but I would say that if you're a regular smoker the Riva 510 (Electronic Cigarette - Starter Kits - Riva 510) gives you a full day charge. I picked up the LITE kit which is bare-bones and 60ml of liquid (I was told would last about 2 weeks) for $60, which is, frankly, less than I pay to smoke for a two-week period. Of course, I'll pick up more atomizers, etc., when I do my second order for more liquid, but I figure it's enough to get me started.

Awesome, awesome. Probably amongst the last of the questions, but I understand that PG is pretty much artificial while VG is more, uh, "organic"? I'm sure that's a simplification, but is there any reason to choose one over the other?

Edit, Dormouse, you must have ESP!

Considering your smoking habits, I would suggest all PG if it is a supplier that gives you a choice of one or the other. If you can mix, I might go 80% - PG, 20% - VG. At smaller 3.7 volt battery levels, all PG provides a little better throat hit (inhaled feel) than VG. And all PG liquid and genuine throat hit does not burn in any way at all. It simply better mimics the feel of the real thing. There are a few vapers who hate to feel anything but air when they vape so they don't want any throat hit. They vape 2mg liquid and use mini and weak battery PV's. And for them that is fine and it's good that there are so many options because we aren't all the same. But the most common nicotine strength vaped is 24mg as polled on this and other vaping sites and much more PG liquid is sold than VG according to the suppliers I have talked to. Most vapers want a good throat hit.

Good Luck

Note: Neither PG or VG has been shown to be harmful. In fact there is a study from the 1940's that showed that inhaled PG could be beneficial. Some people do find that they are allergic to one or the other.

The least expensive starter kit that I've seen is still the Riva lite bundle (even less expensive than the regular 510's) for only $30 when you click on the 20% discount banner. I am not affiliated with any vendor, this is just my genuine advice.

Also, I highly recommend against trying to share one kit between two people. At some point one or both of you will be waiting for batteries to charge. At bare minimum you should have at least one extra battery on hand to share (and if it was 1000mah, that would be even better).

As for which method is the best; the top two vaping methods are drip tips and cartomizers. Most people use both. If you are on a tight budget I would at least add a drip tip or two to your order because cartomizers are considered disposable so they will need to be thrown out and replaced often but the drip tips will last forever.

Vaping will end up saving you money over smoking very quickly so you'll be able to try out cartomizers and get another kit (or whatever) pretty soon with all the money you'll be saving.

You'll probably like juices that are about 18mg and made with more VG and he'll probably like 24mg and more PG -- this is just if I was forced to predict -- but you can never tell how it's going to work out until you jump in, so it's always best to get a variety and see how it goes. The average vaper uses about 3ml per day so you'll want to get enough to last a couple of weeks and by then you'll have some idea of what mg to get next time and what flavors you like.

Good luck! :)

Thanks to all who answered. I think I typed it wrong the first time. I was going to get enough for two complaete cigs + one extra batt (for short term) two chargers and was considering getting two drip tips and a pack or two of blank cartomizers.... and of course eliquid. At 3 ml a day that would be about 60 ml.... It sounds like I was on the right track at least from your answer.

I saw a place that sells 10 ml bottles for a pretty good price USA made and lots of flavors... Perhaps should get 6 different 10 ml bottles then to start figuring out what we like... We can suffer through a little of it if we don't like it... Then again maybe 8 just in case we get a cpl we despise...lol

We're both really excited about this we just have to wait for a week when we're a little ahead to oder the kits. After that it looks like we'll save quite a bit even with replacing parts occasionally.
