Newbie needing advice

I am a newbie. I have tried e-cigaretts before that were some of the cheap types and was very disappointed. The first one I tried was a disposable type that had a small taste, no vapor, and no throat hit. The next one I tried was bought online and it had a small amount of vapor but absolutely no taste or throat hit. The last one also was an auto with a 5 second cut-off and also had a feature to prevent small quick drags (to prime).

I was reading the info for what e-cig that might work for me in this forum elsewhere and read to get perhaps a stronger battery (the ones I had had the 180mAz). Even to try starting with a eGo type. I don't really have the ability to get smoke breaks where I work and really want to make sure the type I get does not look too much like a regular cigarette since it's smoke-free. I need an item that won't be too heavy and able to hold in my mouth while "puffing" on it. I may need to get a manual and auto but not sure.

Is the eGo the best for someone that is coming from heavy smoking and needs more vapor, more taste and good throat hit? Or is the eGo-T (tank) a better way to go? Does anyone do a lot of janitorial work (sweeping, mopping, and scrubbing on floors) to know of a good unit that I have not seen?

I am also confused with what all I need. I looked at the starter kits and know that I have to get fluid as well but am really confused with all the different items. I would also like to have something to hold the device so it does not hit the floor (batteries with soapy water and hard tile don't mix too well) as a manager had his damaged with it hitting the floor (his is very expensive and not enough vapor or taste for me). I also ride public transportation and am gone from home about 12 hours a day and for a heavy smoker type, I may need to carry an extra battery and other materials. Any advice from heavy users in what all I really need to look at.

I also have been going through the different stores located in the forum and have seen a couple even mentioned by other users. The initial cost needs to be no more than $70 and some of the start-ups that I saw for eGo types were under that and that is good. I get paid once a week so I can add more items each week. I would like the fastest, most knowledeable, best priced store to buy from. I have looked on the Internet for any local group of e-cig users here in San Antonio (not on this forum) and have not found any local group to test either.

Sorry for the long post. Advice needed - is eGo the best for one who needs really good amount of vapor, flavor and throat hit? is eGo or another best for someone needing to hold the e-cigg in the mouth for extended time because of job? any other type not looked at that is best for use while at work? advice really needed on best way to start with low amount of money with all the confusion of types. What accessories and other items I could use for being away from home for about 12 hours (not capable of charging with wall or computer plug) especially for a heavy smoker? Any other advice for a new person who has been disappointed with previous e-ciggs tried but really wanting and needing to quit smoking.

I can tell you the ego's don't hang in your mouth very well and as far as I know only come in manual batteries. However the 510 autos ae 280 mah I believe ,and aren't much bigger then a regular cigarette and come in manual and auto battery. Some kits I have seen online come with one of each battery. For home Vaping the egos with low res carts are very popular but the standard 510 is great for on the go and are very light so carrying an extra battery is very easy. Hope this helps :)

Are the 510 and eGo parts interchangeable? I've seen some items being claimed able to be used with certain items. That may be something I can at least try if they are interchangeable, get a 510 auto battery with an eGo starter set or something of that nature. I was looking at the LR as well, are there LR available for the 510?

I may actually look into building my own "startup" set if it's possible for $70. If not, I may just start off with a home unit then get a work unit. Thanks for answering.

Most of the people here eventually own an eGo or Riva just for the wide family of accessories available. The 510 thread is probably the most compatible of all.

The eGo battery isn't one you'd want to hang in your mouth like a cigarette, but it gives you 5 hours to all day vaping from a charge depending on the battery you buy. Batteries of 1000mah and up can last you virtually all day at work, even if you carry it around and vape inside a building (as opposed to only vaping on breaks).

I just got the eGo-T B-tank kit from elctronicstix and love it ... LOVE IT.

I started off with a 510 kit with two batteries, then bought an other battery, then an other battery, then couldn't take the constant switching batteries and ordered the 1000mah eGo kit.

All I have to say is WOW. Where has this thing been all my life. It insanely good. It changed the way all my juice tastes.

Oh and I am very happy with electronicstix as well ... super guys with great products and support

Welcome to ECF and congrats. When you make your purchase it's recommended that you order from one of the Suppliers listed here at ECF as they are obligated to work under a code of ethics and when they don't provide good service and/ or quality products members here will call them out. It's also a good idea, once you selected your PV, to look for discount codes/ coupons. Here's a very reputable vendor that has a discount code on their website- 20% off. They sell the Riva nd eGo:

Good Luck, Vapoor.
Thanks Bluesmaster75 and Tersur.

I now have more to look into and hoping to get my e-cigg by the end of the week.

Good Luck, Vapoor.

Thanks for this advice. I am looking at making my purchase tomorrow and hopefully my brother will like the one I pick out too. He doesn't get online much as he is always working and really needs to quit (more so than me, he's got copd, I'm just tired of feeling sick in my lungs, having trouble breathing, smelling horrible, and the extreme cost of ciggs).

I'm glad to have found this forum as well. I was always in the dark about what to get and I've paid for it by wasting my money on terrible items and ordering from companies that have poor ethics and almost no knowledge of the product they sell. Now, with the forum, I can find good suppliers that know what they are talking about and great people who can give advice and assistance.

You're welcome and yes the people here have been ever so patient and helpful to us. Very sorry about your bro but there are many stories here of vapers with COPD that kicked the analogs and witnessed their lung capacity come back big time so there's always hope IMHO. I don't know your age but it nice to see many younger people getting into the vaping. Re: wasting your money...yes all too often that seems to be common in the beginning with many ripoff companies out there preying on our addiction. Before ordering make absolute sure you have everything you'll need as extra shipping charges are a bummer but the wait is even worse IMO.
Good Luck to you and please keep us updated cuz you're family now :D

Based on your comments of no throat hit, this is definitely NOT the route you want to take.

You are on the right track with getting a good "beginner" model such as one like an eGo that has better power. The ego, however, is only 3.4 volts. I would suggest you look at the E-Power 510 or the Riva 510 using manual batteries that have no cut-off, provide warmer vapor and are much safer. Plus they are true 3.7 volt models. I would also suggest to provide better throat hit (along with the better batteries), to use eliquid in the 24mg nicotine strength. Here are several well supported suppliers of this models:

e-Power

Electronic Cigarette - Starter Kits - Riva 510

Note: if you find that these also don't provide warm enough vapor, then look into a good 5 volt or variable volt model.

Rule of Thumb: the more it looks like the real thing, the worse the performance.

Fullerton, Ca
GJ, and Ego-T kit is just perfect for wanting to "make the switch."
I like the simplicity and the tank technology is easy for noobs to refill. You don't want to be overwhelmed up front. The Ego batts have good life and the stock tanks and atomizers can later be switched out for different parts. In short(and purposely keeping it plainspeak) an Ego starter kit is just fine to start with while you browse the forums and settle in to your new life of vaping. You will though outgrow it, if you stick with it(vaping)

After using the chat room a bit, I discussed the information with those on there as well. I decided to go to Breeze Smokes, since the one other place told to me wasn't listed in the forum, and ordered the KGO with the 1100mAz 3.7v stainless steel starter set. Even though it may drain the battery a bit faster, I also got some LR atomizers, blank cartriges and some menthol juice. I also looked into the Riva as a possible next set to get since it looks better for traveling with than the KGO does. Especially since both the KGO and the Riva have the 510 threadings so I can get 510 items to customize it - just will have to make sure to label the chargers to ensure not to try to charge batteries on the wrong charger.

I pray that I will be able to stick with vaping and stop smoking. The smell of my apartment is getting to me and when my son visits (who has Bronchial Asthma) it's worse. And to let ppl know, I'm 39 years old and been smoking for many years (started at age 12 with 1 - 2 per week, quit at 16 and restarted at 19. I gradually increased to 1 pack a day and for a few years was smoking about 1 pack but then increased much, much more. I quit in 2009 for a few months (about 6 or so) but restarted. I thought I was doomed since I had to use the patch and nicotrol inhaler to quit and can't do that any longer. Thankfully the nicotrol inhaler is covered on my insurance but the patch is no longer covered and the other methods I can't do for certain reasons. I've tried the meds as well since they are all covered by my med insurance but none of them worked. I was praying that God will send me some way to quit and happened to find this forum in an unrelated search...had to be from God and really think this e-cigg will help.

My exwife is also wanting to quit and I think she will take my advice and come in here. If I need to, I will try to get her a starter set as well. I think this KGO will have too much for her as she likes things a bit lighter than myself and also not as strong of a throat hit. She can go for a day or so with the cheaper, 180mAz battery types so I am thinking maybe a 280mAz sized battery may be ok for her but was also looking at the EGO 680mAz (think that's the correct mAz). Not sure and may let her decide after joining here and possibly travel up to Austin to see the different sizes and hopefully try out one or so.

I am looking at tomorrow or Saturday on ordering some sample juices to make sure I have enough and also to try different flavors out as well. What juice dealer have ya'll used that is recommended with samples if possible and decent prices (and listed in the forum - was told one but they aren't listed in the forum either). With my work schedule, don't have a lot of time to go through and check them all out.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I am still looking at a second "traveling" unit and am looking into suggestions that have been provided and examing all the info.

Welcome aboard.

The eGo is a good choice, what I use but it is one of those systems that you can't just hang out of your mouth and take drags on.

A TH and vape to me are secondary things (after vaping for a little bit). For me the flavor and the nic fix are the main things I look for.

Also don't get discouraged if you still smoke some analogs while you're vaping. Over a bit of time (could be a day or two, could be a month or two) you'll find yourself tapering off and the taste of an analog will get more and more disgusting. So don't focus on a 'failure' if you have an analog. Focus on the how long you went without one aspect.

Congrats on your choice GJ-Greywolf. Also kudos for going the extra mile researching via chat. Just a few points:
Battery Info:
on single coil cartos 100 mah= 1 hr vaping
on dual coil cartos 100 mah= 1/2 vaping
Recharge at 25% and they'll last longer.
Drinks lots of water, more so if you drink more than 4 cups of Java per day. The vapor comes from our bodies and not from the juice and dehydration is a common problem and can cause issues for new vapers. I drink 2 large glasses in the a.m. and about 1 1/2 liters per day.
I was told and found it to be true the first 10- 14 days are just a touch rough because of all the analog toxins and other addictive substances being purged from our bodies. For the first little while do not be concerned if you're vaping non stop. Your body is just telling you something and eventually this will normalize.
I found I was having problems sleeping. Thanks to swedishfish I made a separate batch of lower level nicotine for the evenings. I now sleep like a baby.
Sorry to go on but we all want this to be a very positive and lasting experience for you and it's also good news your exwife is interested. Just always remember this is a very personal experience. Some quit completely the first day while others cut back on their analogs until 1 day they realized they preferred vaping to analogs.
In regards to purchasing another PV I would suggest you try your PV first and find out what you like and don't like about the size, batts, delivery system/ cartos, attys, etc.
The best of luck to you and thanks for the update, Vapoor.

If you already ordered high nic juice and found you're not sleeping well you can go to Wal-Mart (seems most store it is right by the band-aids) and get some VG for $3. Look for USP on the label, I don't think they stock non-USP but always pays to double check and be safe :)

You can cut down your juice with it till you get some lower nic.

It will naturally cut the taste down a bit too, just like watering down coffee or a shot of whiskey. Might sound like a bad thing but if you have a flavor you don't like and it's the last bottle in the house it can be a blessing.

The general rule of thumb (in case it wasn't mentioned in this thread) is that 100Mah = 1 hour of vaping. So a 650Mah tends to last about 6 hours. As always depends on the carto/atty and your own vape style.
