If you're looking for a good quality and consistent throat hit, like a lot of us, you should be looking at the e-cig models that have a manual switch.
The importance of the manual switch is that it heats the atty to a higher temp - thus warmer vapor and a good quality throat hit. An another important feature of the manual switch is that it does not have a cut off or time out to the drag.
A 901 or 801 without a manual switch will not, no matter who makes it IMO, give you consistent throat hit. Sometimes you'll get a throat hit and sometimes not.
Some of the best models that have a manual switch are
Janty USA
Kissbox (801 with a manual switch)
Dura-C (510 with a manual switch)
Janty Stick (801 or 901 with a manual switch)
PureSmoker.com - Your #1 Source For PV's, Parts, & Accessories!
Prodigy (801 or 901 with a manual switch)-not available yet
- The ScrewDriver - An electronic cigarette that simply works
Screwdriver (SD - 901 with a manual switch)
You can find the 510 with a manual switch also at

If you want a lighter, smoother draw the 801 with a manual switch works great. I use my Kissbox when I want a lighter, smoother draw as well as when I'm trying out new flavors. I also use it when I just want to drip. Dripping is when you drip 3-4 drops of liquid onto the atomizer and vape with just the mouthpiece on, no cartridge.
However, my main vapes are with the SD and the Dura-C. I have to have a good quality CONSISTENT throat hit to feel satisfied.
My first weeks of vaping were very frustrating because I bought a 901 as everyone recommended. The throat hit was sometimes there, sometimes not. My second e-cig was an 801. aarrgghh - same story. I can't stress enough how important that manual switch is if you want a great throat hit.
The e-liquid you buy will also play an important part in providing a throat hit. The higher you go in nicotine strength, the better the throat hit. 36 mg nicotine (the highest strength right now) does give a nice throat hit but made me sick and gave me headaches. I was 2-3 packs per day for several years - so just because you smoked a lot doesn't mean that the higher nicotine is right for you.
For the first 2 months of vaping I used 18 mg (high) nicotine strength and was quite happy with that. I am currently now using 12 mg (medium) nicotine strength ECOpure from
Electronic Cigarettes, Electric Cigarette, E-Cigarettes, E-Cig, E-Liquid. The ECOpure's 18 mg gave a throat hit that knocked my socks off so I was able to go to the 12 mg strength and still feel satisfied.
For a first purchase of liquid, I would recommend you buy the 36 (super high), 24 (very high), and 18 (high) in the flavor or flavors you think will best suit your needs. You'll find the right strength for you. There are a lot of suppliers that have good liquid so the field is open there. I switched to ECOpure because I have sensitivities to some of the ingredients in the other liquids.
It's funny how a lot of newbys state they want an e-cig that looks like a real cigarette. So my advice is get rid of that silly idea that you need an e-cig that looks like a real cigarette and find one that is right for you. Finding the right e-cig model is what is going to make you a successful e-smoker.
Hope this helps - Good Luck!
