I just received my first order of DIY stuff and quickly figuring out this is slightly harder than I thought. I am a bit overwhelmed.
First it will help to explain what flavor I am going for. Currently we (myself and wife) have just recently stopped smoking analogs, and not looking for any weird flavors. I have been buying one from a local store called "Camel". And also ordering my favorite from liberty smokes called. "PG Turkish / USA blend".

I have been trying different mixes of the below flavors, and most of it tastes too much like a cigar, my wife certainly doesn't want anything remotely close to a cigar. Also I have been mixing small 5 - 10 ml batches, and throwing most away. (Actually dumping them into a big bottle just in case I ever get desperate)

I have been reading for weeks on what to order and what to do. I think I failed... I understand the basics and have read and tried so many recipes and wasted a bunch of NIC already. I need to swallow my pride and reach out for help.

I was hoping someone can give me some hints. And specificity tell me which ones to put in a drawer never to be used again, If they continue to make cigar flavors. Or perhaps as a last resort what I should purchase to get the just basic tobacco flavor I seek.

Thanks in advance,
Sid,

One of the recipes I tried had only 2 drops of desert ship in 20 ml of PG. @24mg of NIC. and it was way to strong, tasted like chemicals. I added 15 drops of EM, 1 drop of rum and got it tasting better after sitting all night, but it did not pass the wife test. She said it had no thought hit. Which is important right now as we are getting off the analogs. We definitely need a strong kick.

Here is the first recipe I tried and hated. It smelled up the living room like a cigar. And that Art7leaves tasted weird and over powering,
HFC by DM
0.8mil or 15 drops of 50/50 48mg nic. to get 12mg finish product
3 drops Flavour Art Desert ship
1 drop Flavour Art 7Leaves
8 drops of The Flavor Apprentice Honey
2mil of 80%vg
20% distilled water

The next recipe was one I found with just Art7leaves, I tossed it also.

that is very complicated for a newbie. Have you tried just making some 1 or 2 flavor juices that you can enjoy somewhat? I was surprised how many juices I liked using just ONE flavoring. It doesn't have to be tobacco, I mean, try other stuff?

Once you start to understand how different flavorings taste, and how to mix them, you might do better.

the reason I suggest this is you said you just stopped vaping analogs, and a lot of people find enjoyment in flavors that are NOT tobacco

Or maybe try just some TPA Ry4, it's pretty good by itself I thought. Add a little caramel or EM to sweeten it up if you like that,or vanilla.

The majority of my DIY is tobacco flavors. My advise is to try 5% RY4 with 4% Bavarian Cream and 1% Tobacco Blend. Put 1 drop of Apple Cider Vinegar per 5 mls. and let it steep at least two weeks. In the meantime get some Caramel and Acetyl Pyrazine. You can PM me for any questions.

I understand your fustration as I am also a new vapor that has just quit analogs. What I wanted to do at first was make somthing that tasted as close as possible to a real cigarette. This took some trial and error. I'm going to try to give you some pointers.

First stay away from the additional flavorings at first and concentrate on the tobacco first.

Make up a 5mil batch of each of only tobacco for example
1. tobacco blend

2. ry4 (is sweeter and caramelly)

3. 7leaves

4.desert ship

Start low at about 3% (3 drops per 5ml)

Steep them in hot water in a thurmal cup until they cool to room temp (do this a few times and shake the bottles occasionally).

Then sample each one and determine which you like the best. This will become your base for adding flavors. If you find one you like but it's to week add a drop and steep some more and repeat until it's strong enough. Reduce if to strong.

At this point you have a base to add flavors to (Sweetner, Caramel, baverian cream etc...) use these sparingly at 1 drop per 5 ml and increase as needed.

A good starter is a 555 tobacco with a little AP and sweetner added. This taste as close to a real cigarette as you could find

5 MLs base
5 drops T5 (555)
1 drop AP (gives it a slight nuttyness)
1 drop sweetner.

T5 (555)
T5 Tobacco Flavoring by Hangsen

AP
Acetyl Pyrazine - One Stop DIY Shop Store

Sweetner
Ethyl Maltol - One Stop DIY Shop Store

Hope this helps

I was not sure how that works with mxing and tasting prior to adding the NIC, I will give it a shot.
You won't have the TH so that will make a bit of a difference, but you can get the flavor down without wasting money on the most expensive ingredient if it is drain juice.

Danny, I followed your link and picked up a few more items, the prices at the DIY shop are good enough I splurged a bit.
I still did not get any of the 555 because I would have to order from a different vender.

Things are started to going a bit better. The RY4 is working decent.
I also figured out something that finally made the wife and I happy with the Throat Hit. I am adding capassin oil. Lucky I have a bottle of 1million scoville unit private reserve, I made up a solution of it with one 1/4 drop in 15ml of PG. then add one drop of that solution to the ejuice, I noticed it matches up perfectly with my store bought ejuice with that kick. You notice it on your tounge when vaping. .

I did get these favors. Overkill yes I know...

Acetyl Pyrazine
Seedman Comercial Cigarette Flavor
TFa (Flavor: Red Type Blend, Size: 6ml)
TFA (Flavor: Smooth Tobacco, Size: 6ml)
TFA (Flavor: RY4 Double, Size: 6ml)
TFA (Flavor: Vanilla Swirl, Size: 6ml)
TFA (Flavor: Caramel (Original), Size: 6ml)
TFA (Flavor: Caramel Candy, Size: 6ml)
TFA (Flavor: DK Tobacco, Size:
TFA (Flavor: M-Type, Size: 6ml)

Trust me on this...Tobacco flavors need to steep...then steep some more. If you can get your recipes to where you can say, hmm, that wasn't too bad...put it in your cabinet and let it sit for at least a week, going by every day and shaking it...2 weeks would be even better. Anytime I take something out of my "steeping Cabinets" I then make something new to replace it..because the tobaccos really do need to steep...but if you try it and hate it, even steeping won't make it better.

If you can get your hands on some Shade Tobacco from FA..grab it up..it is OH SO GOOD!

Northern Nevada, astride the "49er trail
4% Asian Ry4 OR English Tobacco OR Virginia Firecured OR Marlboro
5% ethyl malto
5% caramel
1% Tobacco Absolute

Steep for 10 days and then vape straight or add to it.

Definitely don't go overboard on the M type. You could even use less than 4%.

Definitely let steep.

I like Marboro with TFA Juicy peach OR raisin added [to the presteeped tobacco flavor base]

I like Ry4 with TFA Vanilla Cupcake added

I like 555 base with AP, whipped cream and just a touch of TFA honey. I think honey can be way too strong if you use too much. Should be more like an undercurrent. I'm still working on perfecting that recipe but it is pretty good. I need to try my latest batch tomorrow.

Reno, I did not buy any tobacco absolute, will the seedman I purchased work ok? You can see above in posts exactly what I own.

I'd do the Seedmans. It's only 1% and I think the ethyl malto and the caramel are the most important componenets along with whatever tobacco, of course.

You guys are forgetting a very important ingredient.

You should add 2 drops of Apple Cider Vinegar per 5ml of juice. You will not believe how much this will improve the flavor!

Here's a good tobacco flavor recipe for 5ml of finished product.

5ml of your VG/PG/NIC base
2 drops tobacco flavor
3 drops of Ethyl Maltol
2 drops of Apple Cider Vinegar
Shake well

Let steep for at least 24 hours, 3 days is best.

Thats a very nice selection and overkill I don't think so. I get my flavors at vaping zone

E Cig : Best Ejuice | Joye eGo & eGo-T | Boge Leo | Cartomizers | E-Liquid | Electronic Cigarettes

great place large selection and good price.

If you purchase any of there SUPER concentrates be warned there very strong. SO if the reciepe calls for 7% - 10% regular flavor concentrate then cut it to 2% - 2.5% when using the SUPER concentrate. Those flavors are located in the super concentrate - alchol based section on there site. There very good and I would use those when possible.

What you need to add to your arsonal of flavors is

EM also known as cotton candy or sweetner
555 or T5 (555 like) which is what I use.
Baverian cream or Dulce De Leache

Then try these recepies

This 555 receipe is a very common mild tobacco taste with a nutty essence. kinda taste like most over the counter better e-cigarette disposables.

T5(555) 5 - 6% or 5 - 6 drops per 5 ml
AP 1% or 1 drop per 5 ml (very strong so use sparingly)

Optionally you can add 1% sweetner which tends to smoothen the mix a bit by mellowing the tobacco essence. So if you think your mix is a bit harsch add the sweetner if not leave it alone.
This is a very common every day reciepe with a mild and nutty tobacco flavor

Next get more adventurest try this double RY4 reciepe

Double RY4 7%
Dulce De Leache or bavarian cream 1%
Caramel 1%
AP 1%
sweetner 1%

This is gaining very fast popularity and has become my favorate every day vape. It's a plesent mild tobacco with a creamy texture and a nutty essence. Be warned this takes a full month to steep and develop. It's not even vapable for at least 2.5 weeks. You can hasten the steeping to a few hours by steeping it in an ultrasonic cleaner such as the kind you or your spouce clean your jewlery in. This is how I steep my mixtures. If you need a recommendation for an ultrasonic cleaner let me know I'll be happy to give it to you. Ultrasonic steeping cuts the steeping time of any mixture from weeks and months to just 2 or 3 hours.

There's a really good discussion on UC steeping here.

Let me know how your making out.

Very good point. I've been meaning to try that but have not gotten around to it yet. I've also read that for fruit and candy mixes (non tobacco) 1 drop per 5 ml of lemon juice work well to bring out and meld those flavors. Those 2 ingredience will also solve most flavor fade problems.

I noticed you made up your own concentrate of a 1/4 drop in 15 ml and then add that solution to the ejuice. The question is how many ml's is the ejuice your adding your capassin mixdown to?
