Hello,

I am a newbie to vapping after smoking cigarettes for over 25 years. I have been using a Kanger Evod clearomizer for about a month and haven't touched a cigarette since. I recently purchased a tesla battery mod because my Ego battery couldn't keep up with me for a whole day. The Tesla battery came with a cartomizer which was new to me so I decided to try it out (plus it looks cool). I have been using it for one day but it much hotter than my Evod. The Evod and Carto have the same comparable resistance but the carto is too hot even on the lowest voltage. Is this normal? Would changing the resistance in the carto cool the vapor?

My Evod resistance is 1.6 and I have been vapping around 4.0v. The cartomizer is 1.4 ohm's and it is a warm vap at 3.0v; at 4.0v it is a hot vap and has a high throat hit. I am also using the same juice in both tanks.

Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated; thank you in advance.

Is that a carto tank with a carto inside that your talking about?

I think you would like a single coil much better (with two pre punched holes). A single coil should give you better battery life also. The other plus is a good carto ( Ikenvape.Smok, Boge) will have a better taste as in not as muted as the Evod. If you have not done any dripping yet, you probably dont know what I mean.

Good luck in your journey !!

Glad you solved your problem. Higher ohms will generally result in a cooler vape.

The most important step in a cartotank setup is properly priming the carto at the beginning. That will determine how the carto will perform for the rest of its life. Should you ever allow a carto to go dry it will get a burnt taste, and you will never get that taste out. The carto is done at that point and will need to be replaced.

HiJack. Hey is anyone trying to boil clean their cartos -- for use in tanks in my case -- anymore? also, I find often esp in the morning, my carto tank setup benefits from holding upsidedown and blowing through the drip tip end, being careful to catch the juice in a vaper towel and being sure the punch (slot) holes are not covered in juice so as to clear out rather than draw back in from the carto. I get a lot of burnt nasty juice cleared out and a much improved taste that way. Do others do this and/or are there alternative methods to achieving the same?

Most juices will burn at the wattages you're talking about. That's a lot of heat and well outside the recommended range. Seems to me that most juices hit their sweet spot between about 6.5 and 7.5 watts. When I first started, I vaped at much higher wattages and found my juice darkened considerably before getting to the end of the tank. It was suggested to me to lower my wattage/volts. In trying the lower watts, around 7.0 watts, I discovered a much better flavor and taste. I had watched too many videos with the more experienced guys vaping at higher wattages using lower ohm coils in RBA's. You cannot apply those same wattages to clearos and "standard" coils. Also, most APV's won't work at resistances of 1.4 ohms. So, there may be some confusion about exactly what is going on here. The vaping chart is a good starter:

Sorry, they weren't this small to start with. Google safe vaping chart and you'll find this chart, many times on ECF. Good luck.
