hiya =) i was on live chat last night and suggestions for Riva 510 & 910 came up - but i can't figure out what the diff is...:confused:

* convenience - charger twist and go - i don't want to mess with liquids and syringes and such
* long batt life
* good throat hit

was using the ones from the mall - and i used the higest nicotine "filter" carto they had - 12 mg

which carto to buy for Riva then??

thanx EveryOne :p

Welcome! I have no information about the 901, maybe someone else here will and can tell you about it.

I have a joye ego (same as Riva). I love it. I've been using it for 6 months and still using it. Batteries still going strong.

I use boge 2.0 cartomizers or dual coil cartomizers. Very simple, just pop off the end, fill with juice. The ego very versatile. You can drip (drip juice directly onto the atomizer) use cartridges and atty, cartomizers, tanks.

I love it! Can't say enough good things about it. The average strength nicotine most people start with is 18-24. I got a bottle of 12 & 24 of the same juice to mix if I had to but 24 was perfect for me.

Good luck!

The difference between Riva510 and Riva901 is the connection.

The Riva510 will use all the 510 compatible part (and all the eGo compatible parts) so there are a lot more options; cartos, cartridges, tanks, clearomizers, map tanks, vapemates, mega atty/mega carts... the list goes on.

The Riva901 uses only 901 parts... limited.

BOTH will have batteries that last about 7-9 hours per charge, both MAY require using liquid to fill etc however with the Riva 510 you could (if you wanted) convert to the tank system and mess with juice less often or you could buy pre-filled cartomizers and throw them away when they are empty (more expensive that way, but convenient).

As for throat hit, there are a couple of ways to create it; higher nicotine levels, higher PG content in your e-liquid (or cartos), and lower resistance atomizers (or cartomizers).

You have to mess with liquids if you get either of those - they are 3 piece ecigs so there are not a lot of prefilled cartomizers for them. If you have lots of money and don't want to mess with liquids then buy a TWO piece ecig that has lots of prefilled cartomizers like a KR808D-1 (Vapor4Life for example).

meanwhile -

510 - the most popular threading, has the most accessories available, the most upgrade paths. The manual version of its batteries (recommended) have a totally sealed threaded end so they are very hard to damage with juice leaks. There are lots of blank cartomizers types available for 510 (but then you would have to use eliquid which you don't want to do). There are few decent prefilled cartomizers for 510 - mainly Chinese liquid ones. Cartomizers (which I will define below) are a more popular method of vaping than the battery+atomizer+cartridge 3-piece setup

901 - Natively it does not have a lot of atomizer or cartomizer choices (though it may be able to use some KR808D-1 cartomizers without needing an adapter). Its atomizers have what I think is an airier hit. The atomizer has a hole in the side and liquid can leak out occasionally. Some people like the more vapory airier hit. A bit harder to find manual batteries and PCC's that work with the manuals. Most people here use and recommend manual batteries.

You may want to consider KR808D-1 manuals (LiteCigUSA.net for a couple of colors, Vapor4Life.com for many colors at a slight premium, and the most prefilled cartos are there). You can put a DSE901 standard resistance atomizer right on a KR808D-1 battery and use DSE901 cartridges or if you have manual batteries, a 901 drip tip - but since you don't want to mess with juices you don't even need an atomizer

IMO not messing with juices is not a good choice but if you want that to be you initial method of vaping, see Vapor4Life.com

Cartomizer is a combined disposable CARTridge and atOMIZER in one screw-on piece. It screws right on the battery. The pluses are they hold twice as much juice as a cartridge, they need juice added less often, they provide a more consistent and more troublefree vaping experience. One minus is their limited lifespan since they are between difficult and impossible to clean/dry and ever have work well again. But I can often get a week or more of good use for a $2 cartomizer if I keep it damp with juice so I am fine with that. You would not be keeping it damp with juice so the other minus of cartos is if you don't keep them damp them eventually you get a singed taste and that may occur before it is empty, whenever the stuffing gets too dry to wick enough juice to the internal atomizer.

Dormouse nailed it

Nobody really likes messing with the juice, its just part of vaping. Buying prefilled cartos is an option but you are going to be paying a premium price for bottom of the barrel juice imo. Using only prefilled cartos could very well cost someone like me (heavy vaper) as much or more than smoking analogs.

Riva / eGo - blank boge lr 510 carto- drip tip- good juice

I have had many different starter sets and mods but this setup is probably what I would recommend for a great bang for the buck starter setup.

Dormouse answered your question pretty well in reference to ego/riva style devices and the various threadings so I just wanted to suggest that if you are looking for convenience you may want to take a look at some bottom-feed mods, a slightly larger one such as a reo will last all day on a single charge without a problem(I'm actually on day 2 for my battery at the moment because I forgot to swap it this morning) and filling it(which only has to be done every day or two) takes about 5 seconds, just pour fresh juice in the bottle and put it back in the device. They are a little expensive initially but in the long run will come out cheaper than pre-filled cartos.

Yep. And I agree - for the best hit you need a fat battery model or mod and LR cartos or LR atty and juice

Next step below fat battery+LR is KR808D-1 / Vapor4Life which is a 3.7v slim ecig - the Vapor4Life WoW Carts are hot and some of their flavors have a sharp edge to the hit (my faves are WOWbacco and WOW Vanilla - some full strength smokers cannot vape 24mg WOW cartos on a KR8 and have to go to 18mg. Some of their flavors are overdone though so blow your money on some samplers. KR808D-1 / Vapor4Life is the most hit you can get without using juice. But you will waste some bucks finding flavors you like. Without using juice you will be limited to the prefills offered by Vapor4Life, Bloogplanet, Smoketip, Vapesafe, and a couple of other rebrands. If you buy this model I strongly recommend manual for control of your hit and less chance of killing a battery if a carto leaks a bit. Easier to get a good hit with manual.

    Accessories? Well the Ego carrying case is nice (about the size of a sunglass case, but with pockets). Also, nice is the 306 LR atomizer with drip tip. But, I imagine you'll just want to play around with your set of cartomizers and juice before you go crazy with accessories.

    There are a bunch of good juice vendors out there. You could try TastyVapor.us, GourmetVapor.com, Vapor4Life.com; the list goes on. You might want to look at getting a bunch of sample sizes to figure out which flavors you like. Plus, maybe 30ml of a mild tobacco flavor like 555 (maybe one 18mg and one 24mg) or whatever you think you'd like to tide you over until your next juice delivery.

    I think you should have atomizers anyway for testing juices (plus a 510 drip tip). Cartos are disposable temporary items so only get the carto deluxe if you want the carrying case. Either get the carto set and buy an atomizer if it comes with none and a drip tip. Or buy the Riva Lite Bundle and a drip tip and a some Boge cartos to start out with. I would try Boges first, both standard resistance and LR 2.0. Re dual coils, here are 1,5 and 2,5 ohm ones. Some people will not go below 2.0ohms stuff on Ego and Riva and will only go down into the 1's ohms with mods since mods use industrial AA-look batteries that come out and are charged in a separate charger where any battery damage can be seen. But some people will use the hot 1.5 ohm dual coils on Ego and Riva . You will be using plenty of cartos, try both Boge and dual coil.

    I can get a at least a week of good use out of a Boge w/ thin light clear juices (20% or less VG, light colored see through juices since they usually leave little or no clogging flavor sediment)

    eGo batteries vape cooler than the Riva. They use PCM technology, cycling rapidly between 3.4 and 0 volts, vs. 3.7 volts for the Riva. The eGo batteries are said to be a little more reliable and the eGo-T batteries have a nice shutoff circuit (5 presses shuts off the battery to prevent accidental firing), but it's kind of hard to recommend them if you get used to the vape from your Riva.

    Yeah a couple atomizers are a must any way you slice it unless perhaps if yoou have a feeder. You don't want to fill a whole carto and then find you hate the juice that's in it...very bad.
