I was really excited and happy, until I read the Free Press article saying how the Lions were boo'd ... BOO'D ... for taking Stafford.

I have to rant a little here, please forgive me.

I HATE fair weather fans. I am a Lions fan. Have been one all my life, will be one for the rest of my life. I want to be buried in a combo Lions/Red Wings casket. I would never boo my team/coaches/owners. I would never turn my back on my team. I would NEVER wear the opposing team's colors to a game.

If you cannot support your team through wins AND losses, you are NOT a fan. I live 900 miles from Detroit. I get to see 2 games a year on TV (Thanksgiving and when they play the Rams this year). Yet the other games, I am sitting in front of my computer with the live stats going. When the Lions score or make a great play, I cheer. I jump up and down and scream (my family usually has to leave the house). When the other team scores, I shout at the screen and usually throw something. But I never, EVER, bad-mouth my team. When my Lions win, I brag all week long. When my Lions lose, my heart breaks.

Fair weather fans are the ones who won't go to a game when the Lions are 0-15. They should not be allowed to go to a game when the Lions are 15-0. If you cannot support your team when they are down, do not pretend to support them when they are up.

Anyone who boo's their team at ANY point, should never be allowed to cheer for that team. All these people are saying is that they care more about their team doing what THEY want, rather than loving their team and cheering for them NO MATTER WHAT.

The Lions needed a real franchise QB. They have tried with Mitchell, Batch, Harrington, etc. but have never had good luck. Maybe Stafford will be that guy. No one knows yet. He could be the next Favre, he could be the next Harrington. All of these "fans" who are booing today will be cheering and singing his praises if he takes the Lions to the Super Bowl. It's hypocritical and just plain wrong.

Do not get me wrong. There are a lot of things I think the Lions could do differently. And I will tell people what I think they need to do. But when it comes to supporting my team, I will never fail to do so. I cheered the day they fired Millen. I called my dad to tell him and jumped for joy. On the other hand, had they not fired him, I would still cheer the team every time they took the field.

I love my Lions, warts and all. Anyone who does not, please do not call yourself a Lions fan.

I feel that a true fan of a sports team would treat that team as if it were their kid's little league team. Would you boo your kid if they lost a game? If your kid had a bad coach, would you wear the other team's colors? If the coach went and got a new player and you thought he should have gotten someone else, would you boo them?

/rant

Ok, I have to stop now. This has gotten to be a lot longer than I wanted it to be. Sorry, I am just VERY passionate about my Lions. :D

Oh yeah, and the Bears SUCK! ;)

Booing your team is a way of letting them no you are not happy with them. Just because you boo a decision they make doesn't mean you aren't still a fan

I understand that to a certain extent. But when you boo everything your team does every day, it doesn't help anything. The only time Lions fans are happy is when people get fired. Of course they go back to being upset when someone is hired to replace that person.

Lions "fans" have boo'd both draft picks so far. A lot of people are upset because they say "defense wins championships". The full quote is "Offense wins games, defense wins championships". After last year, I think we should probably win some games before worrying about championships.

Update: The Lions just picked a safety. He was boo'd as well. What the heck do they want? They final got a defense pick, but it was apparently the wrong one.

This is what I am talking about. Nothing is good enough for Lions fans.

This is what sets me off.

I thought they shoulda got Micheal Oher the OT. Gotta protect the 40million dollar investment. I was hoping the niners would trade up to grab him once he dropped into the 20s. If crabtree wasn't at #10 thats who we woulda drafted.
yeah you should send a personal thank-you to al davis as bad as it is here at least were not the raiders

I'm on the fence about Pettigrew. I'm going to reserve judgement until I see what he can do. I think this year went a lot better than past years, but still wasn't perfect. I definately would have rather had them select a few more linemen, but we will see what happens.
true true i guess with so many holes you have to start somewhere
