This is a cross post - but... I'm impatient!

How about just nichrome foam? Rather than a coil, use a wad of foam...

Do they make such a thing? If the resistance is right, shouldn't we be able to stick it in a ceramic pot and apply a charge to it? No wicking material required - no nickle mesh, just a heating element for a cart to wick onto; or just drip on....

It should be reasonably easy to clean or replace... I'm envisioning that the legs are just screwed into the bottom of the ceramic pot, rather than soldered..

I dunno - just brain storming...

I know i am just a newbie on this thread, but what about drilling small holes in the atty base, sticking each end of the nichrome wire in the holes, and using a friction fit type thing to hold the wires in place and ensure good contact?
Try to picture a hole, say 35 gague size, slide in the nichrome, then slide in a 25 gague needle to hold the wire in tight. It would be removable with a smaller needle, just push it out.?
Just a thought.....
