if youre talking about nicotrol, yes.. completely different sensation.. if you use the holders included with the nicotrol, you get a cold airy puff.. and only a couple of them per cartridge..

if you just use the cartridge, you get a blast of harsh nic, that will make a 2-pack a day smoker cough & choke..

not at all satisfying & pretty much worthless to 95% of the people who try it.

a real ecig gives you a much longer, slower dose of nic, with flavor..much more like a real cig & 1000 times more satisfying..

The Nicotrol inhaler has no power source (other than the user's inhalation) to create the nicotine-laced mist of tiny droplets.

In essence, it's an aerosol atomizer with the air-pressure being created by the user's inhalation.

vaping uses electricity to heat coils that vaporizes the liquid, that is then inhaled.

The difference is that the non-electric system has you inhaling very tiny droplets (sort of like a fog that "feels wet") and the electric system provides a real vapor (a fog that you can see, but that doesn't seem as "wet" or "drippy").

Oh, and the prescription inhaler? No flavor. :glare: Well, there's a taste. But calling it a "flavor" would be an insult to anything that actually does taste good.

Is there really any difference between a prescription nicotine inhaler and an ecig?

After 12 months the nicotine inhaler success rate is only 11–13%. I would imagine the success rate of the Ecig is much higher as witnessed here at ECF. The Nicotine inhaler also fails to deliver in the throat and lung hit category, something much needed by smokers trying to quit.

I have personally tried the nicotine inhaler many years ago at the request of my parents and I thought it was really terrible. Tasted awful and made me pretty sick feeling. This is part of what scared me away from e-cigs for so long. But I love my e-cig setup and it's honestly pretty close to smoking without all the yuck. Much better at helping me stop the regular cigarettes.

Recon Number 54 pointed out the differences in how they work "mechanically" and he/she is spot on. Much different experience in my opinion.

Wondering if the OP meant - if an inhaler is ok to use - why all the hype and negativity abt E cigs - are that not the same in the sense they both provide nicotine and have the same "chemicals" except possibily flavorings and e cig use heat to vaporize? If this is what the op was asking - simple answers - IMO:

Big Pharma
ANTS
Tax revenue

Also I think we may live longer than folks smoking analogs - therefore claiming more social security/medicare etc - assuming these are still liquid.....

please feel free to add......

Not sure how effective Nicotrol is in stopping smoking but I don't imagine it is any better than any other nicotine replacement method other than a good ecig setup. They aren't anything like real smoking, very airy draw, no throat hit, no flavor except a nasty nic taste. I tried them for I day and ended up throwing away the whole box.

I got a prescription for a nic inhaler months ago and didn't fill the scrip since they wanted about $150 for it and insurance didn't cover it.
I was mainly wondering since they are both nicotine that you inhale-I was wondering why one is so much more expensive than the other, and why there is this big ballyhoo over whether or not ecigs are harmful when the inhaler is something that is acceptable. It just doesn't seem to me that the ecig should be so controversial-for example where I live they have banned the use of ecigs on county property (as a "preemptive" measure since they said they don't know if they're dangerous) which includes outdoors even and I'm pretty sure that you are allowed to use a nicotine inhaler though.

I imagine that like you said, big pharma and the govt aren't making money off the ecig and that is a big part of why. What is "ANTS"?

It just seems like such bs when I can use the ecig, which as you've all said works better, and is cheaper, but still it's somehow so controversial.

Nicotrol is terrible. I dont even want to talk about it I threw mine in the storm drain as soon as I got my first ecig.

I really, really hope you meant that as a figure of speech.

Nicotrol, sadly, wasn't much more than a big waste of money for me either.

Spelling error - ANTZ not ANTS -ANti Tobacco Zealots, or Anti Nicotine and Tobacco Zealots. Although they are like ants to me - lol- dont want em anywhere near me.....lol

LOl, ok I get it. Yeah now I suppose I'll have to deal with them even while i vape (started 16 days go). All summer while swimming at the lake and smoking in the open air I've been accosted by ANTZ who make it their business to bother me about smoking. One man walked past me and told me that I'm not allowed to smoke there (I found out later that is true but they don't post signs), so I said "oh thanks for letting me know" and kept smoking. He proceeded to keep walking walking back and forth near me within earshot saying "I come here to get away from smokers", so I asked him why he was hovering near me like a moth to a flame then, lol

Wonder if you told him ur e cig was the latest nicotine inhaler - would he even know the difference - lmao

Or would it even matter to him? After all it still emits something that resembles smoke and it's still enjoyable and that's a no no!
We can't allow those nasty smokers to stop smoking while still being allowed to enjoy themselves! :p
