***I feel, with our ever so growing community. New members might not be aware of their nicotine intake and the volumes of high intensity grade.
People are just dripping 36mg and vaping per shot. Can anyone really fathom the idea of running out or the withdraw effects of such a high intensity grade? I don't think that I even want to know what can happen. It sounds so dangerous and I wish people would acknowledge what exactly they're doing. I know Kate had a Great post on the whole issue,, but alot of people are still unaware. I think we should make it a sticky on the forums.
I really dont want anyone to get hurt in general, but if someone does, it can have devastating effect on e-cigs in general. I think its only a matter of time before we're reading something terrible in the news and the whole idea of a better alternative will be banned. Because those high contents are pretty much what can ignorant activists an advantage over us.
Too much of anything in this world can be very Bad for you!

This Post below was provided by Kate, We ever greatful for your graditude :)

It is easy to overdose on nicotine with esmoking, here is some information that all users should be aware of.

* TIME COURSE: Nicotine poisoning typically (but not always) produces toxicity in two phases: stimulation/excitation (early) followed quickly by inhibition/depression (late). Some patient/victims may only exhibit late phase effects. Onset of physical effects is dependent on route of exposure. Early phase findings occur within 15 minutes to 1 hour. Vomiting is the most common symptom of nicotine poisoning. Late phase findings occur within 30 minutes to 4 hours. The duration of symptoms is about 1 to 2 hours following mild exposure, and up to 18 to 24 hours following severe exposure. Death may occur within 1 hour after severe exposure.

* EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM (LESS THAN 8-HOURS) EXPOSURE: At low concentrations, nicotine causes tremor and increases in heart rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure, and level of alertness. More severe exposures cause muscle fasciculations (involuntary twitching), seizures, and abnormal heart rhythms; these effects are followed by multi-system organ depression including slow heart rate (bradycardia), low blood pressure (hypotension), and paralysis of the muscles that control breathing. Vomiting occurs in more then 50% of symptomatic patient/victims. Death may occur, and is typically due to paralysis of the muscles that control breathing, a build-up of fluid in the airways (bronchorrhea), and failure of the heart and blood vessels (cardiovascular collapse).

Emergency Response Card: Nicotine

Important information about nicotine

Do not use nicotine if you are pregnant. It could cause harm to the unborn baby. Use an effective form of birth control, and tell your doctor if you become pregnant during treatment. Nicotine can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. Do not use this medication without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.

Do not smoke while you are using nicotine. Stop smoking as soon as your treatment begins. Smoking while using this medication can be dangerous.

Before using nicotine, tell your doctor if you have:

* heart disease, an irregular heartbeat, high blood pressure or chest pain; * a jaw condition called TMJ (temporomandibular joint) disease; * an overactive thyroid; * diabetes; * pheochromocytoma (tumor of the adrenal gland); * liver or kidney disease; * a stomach ulcer; or * asthma or chronic pulmonary disease.

What happens if I overdose?

Seek emergency medical attention if you think you have used too much of this medicine, or if anyone has accidentally swallowed it. Overdose symptoms may include nausea; vomiting; ........; stomach pain; cold sweat; headache; dizziness; problems with hearing or vision; confusion; uneven heartbeats; chest pain; seizures; and death.

Nicotine side effects

Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Stop using nicotine and call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:

* seizures; or * chest pain or uneven heartbeats.

Less serious side effects may include:

* dizziness; * belching or hiccups; * stomach upset or nausea; * mouth or throat soreness; * dry or watering mouth; * watering eyes; * headache; * runny or stuffy nose (when using the nasal spray); * white patches or sores inside your mouth or on your lips (when using the inhaler); * constipation; * sneezing and coughing; * changes in taste; or * redness, itching, or burning where the patch is worn.

This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Tell your doctor about any unusual or bothersome side effect.

What other drugs will affect nicotine?

Before using nicotine, tell your doctor if you are using any of the following drugs:

* imipramine (Tofranil); * oxazepam (Serax); * propranolol (Inderal), labetalol (Normodyne, Trandate), or prazosin (Minipress); * theophylline (Theo-Dur, Theochron, Theolair); * pentazocine (Talwin), or * insulin.

This list is not complete and there may be other drugs that can interact with nicotine. Tell your doctor about all the prescription and over-the-counter medications you use. This includes vitamins, minerals, herbal products, and drugs prescribed by other doctors. Do not start using a new medication without telling your doctor.

Nicotine Information

Toxicity - Human data:

Adults - The mean lethal dose has been estimated to be 30 to 60 mg. Children - The lethal dose is considered to be about 10 mg of nicotine.

Nicotine information and Toxicology

As a general guide:

Cigarettes usually give us 0.5 - 1.2mg nic per cig with 1mg being an average.

Eliquid potency is measured in mg per ml, eg 16mg eliquid contains 16mg nic per 1ml (approximately 16 cigs worth).

The exception to this measurement is Johnson Creek who use mg per 1.2ml (so their 24mg juice equals about 20mg per 1ml).

A moderate/average vapourising habit uses around 2ml per day.

If you were trying to replace a 20 x 1mg cig per day habit you would need to vape 2ml of 10mg juice.

a drop is around 0.05ml there are approximately 15 - 20 drops in a ml it takes me five minutes to vape two drops

vaping two drops of 36mg juice in five minutes is around the equivalent nic intake as a cigarette per minute.

Small amounts of nicotine might be beneficial but higher doses can cause long term physical damage. Tolerance is quickly built up to higher doses and more nic is needed to gain the same effect.

vaping doesn't give us chemicals such as harmine, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide so we don't get the same hit. Some of us try to get the hit with esmoking by increasing our nicotine intake but all that does is increase tolerance. If we raise our dosage when stopping smoking it doesn't mean we are gaining effect, we are just gaining tolerance.

"... you can become tolerant to nicotine's effects -- you need to use more and more nicotine to reach the same degree of stimulation or relaxation -- and you can see how people would quickly move from smoking one cigarette to a pack a day habit."

How Nicotine Works

Medics think that 35-63mg of nicotine per day is a high dose -

"High-dose nicotine replacement therapy for heavy smokers:

"Another NRT option is to give smokers a higher dose based on the amount of nicotine that they have been getting from cigarettes. Sometimes this method has required larger doses of nicotine replacement than have been used before. High-dose NRT with patches has been studied with patients getting from 35 mg to 63 mg of nicotine per day. The research suggests that patients' withdrawal symptoms go away with these higher doses and their cravings improve without harmful effects on the heart and circulation. Patient were carefully watched in these studies to make sure they were doing well and were not becoming ill or having any problems. This is still a new option that should be considered only with a doctor's guidance and supervision. "

Question is whether drug tolerance that we build and higher doses that go with it make a real difference withdrawal-wise. Once a person smoked for 20-30 years, the addiction might be on very similar level notwithstanding the daily dose for the last couple of years. OD is a different animal, of course. Nobody would like to go through that.

FRankie you are totally right i think we has avapping community need to advocate the safe practices when vaping including the 30 minute rest between vap cessions and water intake. also stress the safe storage and transportaion on nic liquid all we need is a kid drinking are 3ml bottles. also kate has posted this idea before use a low nic for most of the day and only use a high nic for the craving beat down

Thanks ikenmoke and Kate very informative! Additionally, although there are emergency medical procedures available at the hospitals, there is no antidote.

To the youths,
1. don't share your vape especially with someone who does not smoke. Just because it doesn't affect you, doesn't mean that it won't harm them. If someone is hounding you for a vape just explain that you're not feeling well or you've been around sickness, and your device is contaminated. (They 'prolly made you sick with all their hounding anyway)

2. Keep all your "stuff" locked up, especially your juices. Do not trust your college roommates. So many times we live or work with people and yet we never really know them... we don't see their struggles or their sadness. They hide it within themselves. So, always keep your things secured and locked away.

I agree that this should be sticky on the forums. It should also be a good warning for suppliers to include with every sale of nicotine product. At least it should be printed on the included invoice, just to cover the suppliers backsides.

Just one accidental death or severe injury could do a lot of damage to the e-cigarette reputation.

It may seem like a pain in the a** for suppliers, but so worth it in the end if something were to happen. Just my 2 cents...
