If you have the goal to taper off cigs, how incrementally do you typically lower your dose?

I started with a 12mg level. Should I use the 12mg for a week before I lower myself to an 8 or 6mg? Should I wait a month?

Just wondering what you guys have experienced for the best speed to REALLY make a successful attempt at quiting. I dont want to rush it too quickly, only to jump back to cigs or needing a higher mg level.

Thanks in advance!!! :p

If your goal is to quit cigarettes, don't mess with reducing nicotine levels until you quit smoking.

You need high enough nicotine to prevent cravings. Many people need fairly high the first few weeks to do that, but it's very individual. I got 12 mg. & 24 mg. of the same flavor so mix until I found the right level for me. But I needed 24 to quit smoking.

I started out at 24mg and just stayed with it until it "Felt Right" to step down 3 months later. I'm currently switching between 12 and 18 depending how it feels that day. Tonight is an 18mg night for me. It just depends on when you feel it's time I would guess. There are some juices that just don't quite cut it at too low of a nic strength for me.

Absolutely!

I would add to that by rsaying this... If you are still smoking cigarettes, try to use a higher nic dose and see if that gets you off cigarettes. If it works, keep using that nic level for a while and then, slowly go down. Lets say, the next time you buy juice, buy one bottle of your actual nic level and one bottle of a lower lvl.

Lets keep on vaping!

You'll know when your ready. I knew I had to reduce it when it started getting harsh for me.

That is exactly right. I am on 24mg and I started 3 weeks ago. My next order to arrive later this week will include more 18mg than 24 because I often chain-vape and it tends to dry me out and give me a slight headache. I found one solution for me was to keep a light flavor (mt dew in my case) that is a simple 50/50 mix with 12mg handy. Whenever I think I am hitting my normal juices a bit hard a nice simple light juice with lighter nicotine helps a great deal.

Just take your time, like others have said. The nice thing about vaping is that, despite still taking in nicotine, you aren't SMOKING (once you ditch the cigs). Do it at your own pace, drop when you think you're ready and take it from there.

If the key priority is staying off tobacco, then the last thing you want to do is put yourself into a moment of weakness and fall off the wagon.

...and that said, if you do cave, don't beat yourself up over it. Try, try again! Good luck!

Exactly. I started on 12mg and now I vape comfortably at 3-0 mg....when I get really mad I'll drip some 6mg but my body tells me no more 6 LOL

I started about 3 months ago and started at 24mg, started with six 10ml bottles at 24mg in various flavors. First two weeks was vaping like a fiend, have stepped down every two or three weeks. Now vaping exclusively on 6mg juice. Vaping out of enjoyment more than addiction, so vaping has turned a 20 year smoker into a 100% VAPER and loving.

Hi! New member here. I am still smoking somewhat, maybe 1/4 of my original amount, having started with e-cigs only a week ago. Vaping is slowly taking away any urges for regular cigarettes for me. I am not rushing things or putting much effort into it at all and I am not bothered by the transition this way. I was smoking Winston Lights and at times chain smoked, so I set myself up with full flavor disposable e-cigs to start. Then quickly moved to an eGo and VG juice from an organic company. The juice I got was 12 mg and was too strong, just like the disposables, so I cut it with a bit of straight VG, reducing the strong flavor and reducing the strong effects of nicotine. I just mixed some, not a whole lot, probably reducing the amount of nic to 8 or 9 mg. That works for me. For instance, this evening, I would normally have smoked 1/2 pack of regular cigs by now. But instead, I have kind of chain vaped and didn't even crave one analog cig!

What I am trying to say is that I am in the same boat as you. I want to be free of my nicotine addiction and desire for regular cigs. The wonderful thing about vaping that we could never get with regular cigs is that we are in total control of how much nicotine we ingest per vape! We can mix and dilute to our liking. Maybe you could try getting some plain VG or PG, whatever you like, and reduce your nic levels by diluting your juice by small fractions. Another member posted about getting the same flavor in 12mg and 24 mg and mixing them at different ratios. I would say that if you changed the amount of dilution MARGINALLY every week or so, your body wouldn't really notice any difference. I also keep one tank filled with 0 mg nicotine for chain vaping times, just to play around with it. Hope by telling what I do, I may spark an idea with you. Good luck!
