Nicotine level to start off with

I'll be ordering my first stuff (finally) in about a month, and I have a pretty good idea what I want as far as hardware. I'm not so sure about what nicotine level to start with, though. I originally thought 18 since I currently smoke about a pack a day and that's what the handy little charts say is the equivalent.

The more I think about it, the more I wonder if 12 wouldn't be a better starting point. I smoke outsidea and go out of my way to make it inconvenient to drop what I'm doing to go out and smoke. I have a feeling that I'm going to have an e-cig stuck in my face a lot more frequently than I smoke, especially once I find a few flavors I really like, so 18 may be overkill. Does that sound sensible? Blah, I have a feeling that finding the right pg/vg ratio and nicotine level are going to be the hardest parts of this.

I started off with 36mg and got splitting headaches, then after quitting for 6 months I started off at 6 and worked my way up to 12 sometimes 18 then after 4 to 5 months I am down to 3 mg.

Lots of good advice here already. I would just add my experience that what I was getting initially from Blu e-cigs was not enough for me. I believe they are around 13mg or so and it's a lousy delivery method in my opinion. I went to 24mg from there and felt a lot better. I went down to 18 from there and now I'm at 12. I seem to vape a lot more on 12mg, but maybe it's just because I am enjoying it more now than I did when I first started. Find what works for you, but don't be afraid to use higher nic levels if you're struggling.

It all depends, I would definitely look for a local vape shop which will allow sampling. If you dont have a local vape, then I would question what kind of smoker were you before you decided to start vaping.

An example, if you are a light/filtered smoker then something between 6-12 mg nicotine would be a place to start because those kinds of cigs are known for having lower levels of nicotine and a smoother hit. If you were an unfiltered, chewer, or smoked cigars then somewhere between 12-24mg nicotine might be a good starting point. It all depends heavily on the type of device you will be using, the type of drip tip and air flow of the components used to deliver the e-liquid, and the quality of the juice itself. If you already know the kind of flavors you want to be vaping that can also help in choosing the quantity of nicotine.

I highly recommend that when you do make the order than you get one or two nicotine liquids and or include a nicotine-free variant into rotation because there are times you might want to vape and not get the buzz. The blend of PG to VG slightly alters the flavor and unless you are prone to allergies I wouldnt worry about it at this point.

I dont know what kind of vaping you will be doing be it on an VW/VV APV, a Mechanical Tubular Mod, or an E-go like device with a clearomizer. I wish there was more info, just be aware that if you do end up with a rebuildable that the flavor and throat hit will be far more intense than that of most clearomizers. Vape Safe and Vape Happy

I really appreciate all of the advice and information, thank you all. I'm current smoking full flavors, right at a pack a day. I know my sense of taste and smell is shot from the smoking, so I'm betting that my taste in flavors will change over time as that sorts itself out. One of my online friends said that he keeps one tank full of 36mg for early morning and high stress moments, and everything else is a bit lower. I may try that since my worst cravings are always first thing in the morning and right after lunch.

Find a simple flavor that you are pretty sure you can deal with. Vanilla. Or something simple.
Get two bottles of the same flavor....1 in 24 mg. 1 in 0 mg.

Mix to desired level (you'll need an empty bottle too).
100/0 will give you 24 mg.
75/25 will give you 18 mg.
50/50 will give you 12 mg.
24/75 will give you 6 mg.

Of course, this is just for experimentation.........

It only takes two bottles to "test the whole spectrum"....that is if 24 mg is your max level.

:)

Thank you guys for the feedback, I've been reading so much that it feels like my brain is scrambled. RIMP, I'm pretty sure I'm going to order an MVP 2.0 along with a few different clearomizers to play with. I can't wait for the next four weeks to pass so that I can toss my last pack of cigarettes in the trash.

ETA:As for flavors, pretty sure fruits and desserts are going to be what I like best, but I'm trying to keep an open mind about other types.

I would suggest going to your local vape shop so you can taste BEFORE you buy. Hardware is different, online saves tons of $$$. The MVP is a great choice for batteries as is the Vision 2. Vaping to quit analogs is a FANTASTIC choice !!!!!!!

Reo Grand is a type of bottom Feeder, a device containing a tank and a battery to feed and operate an atomizer. The liquid is fed directly into the atomizer, producing a clean and very tasteful vaping experience. If you are familiar with "dripping", a bottom Feeder is sort of a "portable dripping device". Same taste, but no hassle with dripping hardware and operation. A squeeze on the liquid tank fills into the atomizer enough liquid for 3 to 6 vapes. Reo Grand is the big Reo model, containing a 6 ml tank and an 18650 battery, which should last for a day,
The "reos mods" section describes all aspects of the different Reo bottom feeders.

I smoked roughly a pack a day. I started out vaping at 12mg because that's what my husband already had on hand. It's turned out to be fine for me. He had a few 18mg bottles and those all seem "off" to me.

But I would agree with many others here, get a few bottles in different strengths and see what works for you. If you end up with some juice that isn't your thing, you can always hit up the swap/PIF threads on here.

I was really curious about the strength at first, too. I smoked a pack a day of light menthols, but knew I didn't want mint or tobacco flavor in the juice (I'm a serial quitter and wanted this to be the final time I went back & forth). I started at 18mg (fruity flavors) and 19 days in can honestly say I've had only 1 fleeting craving for my old cigs and after the 1st morning when my .....-switch was flipped to max, it's been downright pleasurable to make the switch.

I started vaping 3 weeks ago and started with 24. I used to smoke 1 1/2 pack a day. I'm doing fine on that and feel ready to lower it to 18 on my next order. I agree with the smaller size flavors. I've found my taste improving the longer I go without an analog. I'm just taking the nic level down lower as I feel I need it. I was like you and walked outside to smoke, now with vaping I can sit back and enjoy a movie at home while vaping.
