Probably dumb question but--I bought Nicotine for DIY from a new vendor without paying attention. It's 6 MGs nicotine. The rest is PG. They sell it (I see now) in 6, 18, 24, 36 48, 60 and 100% MG levels. My question is this--for a former pack and a half a day smoker, what would be a good level to get? 6% is too low. What level do most former smokers buy? I used to just buy whatever nicotine Liquid Barn had, but they no longer ship Nic to NY if at all. I'm tempted to go for the 100% level. That might be TOO strong though. This is new to me.

This vendor seems good. The quality/pricing are good. It's just too weak. That's my fault. I'd include a link but I might be breaking a rule here.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

The cloud's secondary (unless I'm trying to hide). vaping for me is strictly a way to not smoke butts. The 6 mgs isn't cutting it in that regard. I'm just curious about what % most ex-smokers buy. If I stick to 6% I'll have to fill half the bottle with nicotine.

Thanks for the reply.

While others went for clouds over nicotine, my years of smoking kept me from doing that. I am still at 12 mg. I've tried to lower that just because but found that I just vaped more and still wasn't satisfied. I'm not sure how long it's been since you quit cigarettes, but it took 18 mg for me to kick the habit; after a few months I found that 12 works best for me and it's been almost 8 years now.

Edited to mention that I was 2 1/2 pack a day - so that might be something that makes you adjust lower than the 12 mg I use.

Hi Mark, and congrats on leaving the cigs behind.

Your question is not dumb at all, and in fact, it's important. As an ex-smoker of MANY years, I started vaping most liquids at 18 mg. and occasionally 24 mg. As time went on, I found my happy spot at 14-15 mg. I do agree with you that 6 mg. is way too low unless one smoked a couple of cigs a day.

I would never recommend someone buy 100 mg. Nic until they read up on here (or other sites) just how to use it and mix it down to your desired level. MOST people don't go higher than 24 mg. but VAPING 100 mg. is absolutely not ideal (some would say it's a HUGE NO-NO!). Please see more threads on this very subject!

@GeekyGeezer and @smacuser - words of wisdom on the 100 mg.? (Yes, smac, it's great for math, but I'm not sure Mark knows it needs to be diluted down.)

Sorry Kat, I assumed he bought the wrong nic and later he saw he had other options. Being that he's been a member here for 5 years also led me to believe Mark would know to get a scale or other measuring devices to dilute the 100mg strength to 12mg (1.2%) or whatever he needed.

Make sure to check out some online nicotine strength calculators if one chooses to go down that road.

[Edited for mg vs percent error]

I'm not certain but but I think he's seeing 6mg as 6%, which it's not. IF correct, he's thinking about bumping to 10mg, or 1%.

    I started at 18mg, aka 1.8%. I still run 15-18mg, or 1.5-1.8%.

If I've misread this entire thread, my apologies. I just don't want him going out and buying 100mg juice and trying to vape it straight up. I'm thinking that might be bad.

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Start at 12mg (aka 1.2%) and adjust from there, up or down. I smoked 2.5 packs a day of full flavored and even unfiltered cigs but 18mg (aka 1.8%) was too much for me. My sweet spot was 12mg (aka 1.2%) and I think that's a good starting point. However everyone is different but all you can do is try and see what works for you.

If you want to make 12mg (aka 1.2%) out of what you have, you need to buy the same juice in 18mg (aka 1.8%) and mix equal parts of the 6mg (aka 0.6%) and 18mg (aka 1.8%) to get 12mg (aka 1.2%).

10% (aka 100mg) is not something you want to try to vape.

AGREED! That was my statement (attempt). I hope Mr. OP comes back here. So far it's just been us ol' ECF'ers.

    Great advice, Uncle J!

@MarkRNY Make sure to revisit this thread before you mix.

By now I hope OP knows the difference between Mg/ml and %
I was a pack a day smoker and needed 18 mg at first. Soon settled in on 12 mg. I still vape 12 mg MTL but vape 6 mg DL. Mixing requires some math (not being a smart azz but really... it's important to get this right) Might as well get some 100 mg/ml nic, some VG and PG and learn to do this right (in the end, it's much cheaper) Or... just decide on a strength and get unflavored for that (very easy way to start out)
What device/tank are you using? If it's a DL tank and you "blow clouds" 6 mg might do. How many watts do you vape at?

I appreciate all the replies. I should have made it clear that this is a DIY question. I was vaping my own e-juice at about 1.4 nic. My question is what strength nicotine to buy--just the nicotine that I mix into the e-juice I make. I didn't know that nicotine came in different strengths until now. I thought the Nic I was buying WAS 100% nicotine and that the VG/PG I'd add to it would bring it down to the 1.4 level--example--I'd buy VG, PG, Flavoring and nicotine from Liquid Barn and make my own from that. I assumed the nicotine was just nicotine. It probably was mixed with PG, but I didn't know it. Whatever it was, it worked. The 6% I bought now doesn't cut it.

If I'm not breaking a rule here, I'll include their link in my next post. You can see the different strengths they sell. The name of the vendor is Nicotine Giant. To be clear, this isn't on them. It's on my ignorance. I'm even ignorant on how best to explain my ignorance. I'm confusing myself.

Thanks again for all the replies.
