Hi

I have purchased a Nitecore D4 3 years ago and was working ok. Since yesterday it won't turn on.If I play a bit with the cable it turns on for like seconds but then off again. So I was wondering

1)Is that a common problem which can be easily fixed?
2)Which 4 or 6 bay charger would you propose to buy and why?

Thanks in advance for all replies.

If the cable is bad I wouldn't mess around with it, may not end well. You may be able to just replace the cable. Yes the cables do go bad with stress the wiring inside will break down. However, three years out of a portable electric device is pretty good.

I was thinking the same thing ^ ^

you had it for " 3 " years, only YOU know how hard you used/abused it... (buy another?)

•is it the 'socket' on the unit ?
•or the cable itself ?

a lot of energy transferring around there, so need to be careful

I have both and also like the XTAR units - they seem well built and have been working good, FOR ME

good luck
;)

I was nervous first reading this, I just ordered two of the same chargers during a Labor Day Sale! But I agree, three years is a good run. I can live with that.
Also, a friend of mine has an Xtar charger, Xtar VP2. A few weeks ago, after a couple years use, it was doing the same as your Nitecore. She kept fiddling with the cable. It finally came back on. Began to smoke, and the kitchen smelt like burnt plastic! She immediately unplugged it and tossed it. My advice would be, three years, it did good. Let it go.

I'm still using my Nightcore I4 to charge NiMh batteries these days. It's several years old. It's still fine, but the LUC4 took it's place for 18650's.

My workhorse is the Efest LUC4 that charges all 4 bays at .5A and 1A, or two bays at 2A.

My newest play toy charger is the Xtar VC4. It shows you the MAH rating of the battery while charging with a total MAH for that charge at the end of the cycle. Of course, to get a "true" MAH rating you have to run the batteries down to about 3.2v or lower and most mods cut off at 3.4v to 3.5v.

The VC4 can charge 2 bays at 1A if you have a USB wall supply that can provide 2A or better. IT can charge four 18650's at .5A. The Xtar 2.1A USB wall wart charger isn't included, but is available separately. for around $6.

I don't know what the lifespans on these things are supposed to be, but my D4 started acting weird after about 2 years of daily use. I'd stick a battery in it, and the screen would go blank, so I'd unplug, replug, and it would work again. I just tossed it out and temporarily went back to my two D2s that are still in fairly new condition. Since charging seems to be one of the riskiest parts of using li-ion cells, and since these chargers are relatively cheap, I just toss 'em when they start acting weird in any way. I don't think it's worth the risk trying to diagnose and fix whatever issue(s) the unit may be having.

I replaced the D4 with an Opus BT-C3400, which has worked well so far (about 4 months), but I still keep one of the D2s plugged in for lifepo4 cells.

My NC i2 went out after 1 year. My NC D2 is running strong though. I decided on the Efest lucv6 next, but wouldn't recommend it. 2 of the bays read (maybe just display) incorrect voltage.
