This occured to me after winning my battle to quit smoking and thinking about the whole process. I have a friend at work who smokes for over 35 years. He is absolutely stuck in the stone ages with technology as is alot of older people. In other words he has internet available through his landlord but no computer or cellphone to use it. Not only that but he said he will never use it and doesnt need it. I have met others who think like him.
My reason for bringing this up is that when i started with an ecig a few years ago it was the most horrible fail of all my quitting attempts and i was dead set against anyone who ever mentioned them as a method to quitting. All because i had no info or support group.
With this one single website i was able to get info not only on the proper way to vape, but also learned why my first attempt failed. Had i found the info back then i may have been analog free since then.
So far everyone i talk too thinks negatively about vapeing, I try me best to inform them but they dont believe me and tell me technically im still smoking even after i tell them how good i feel yada yada yada
I am considering gathering the most pertinent information from ECF along with some of the stories of the users who smoked for over 30 years and quit by turning to vapeing and putting together a small booklet. My goal is to bring this info to people who do not have internet and or do not believe the stories i tell them. maybe leave a few in pharmacies or something. My friend at work has told me he is thinking about trying one mainy because he sees me vapeing while i work and also because he tries to get me to break down and have a smoke to prove ecigs wont work. So far im winning :), but without this forum as support i feel people/he will have the same experience i did. Not only is that a fail for him,but also one more person who has a negative attitude towards vapeing. I dont want to be preaching to people but i want so badly to be able to at least give people the correct info about vapeing.
Is this a good idea and has anyone else done something similar?

Welcome to the forum! lets knock you loose of the n00b status so as you read and interact all over the site

It is huge aces that you went right back to it, that i think should prove to you that no matter how much your co-worker tries to get you to break down, you have the will and determination to keep on keep'n on, you would be surprised how many times yours truly tried but shhhhhh

To answer your question on people seeing it still as a negative: Well you are still getting your nicotine, flavoring, myst, and warmth ;) compared to how many in a cigarette? Now this being said, believe it or not -- nicotine does occur naturally in some fruits and veggies well rather a derivative. Sadly the public fears and shuns what it does not understand. Soon as you say this is my electronic cigarette, the psyche of mass society says cool, it is electronic so that means nothing to warm but soon as you say nicotine all the images of what cigarette's can do to you in a bad sense is brought to the front of the brain....ahhh viva la mass hypnosis ;) No there is nothing wrong with being well armed so as you can speak with confidence. It will be that confidence that people will see and start to come around to your way of thinking, and i think you have that already seeing as you stuck with it!

get all the information you can, watch you tube videos, hang out in Total Vape network, or vape talk live on Saturday (9pm - 12?) and the same for Sunday, there are two great guys there on vape talk live(though you need to sign up for a account).

If you want to fly under the radar as it where, why not get creative? Say that it is a personal humidifier? It is a new high tech asthma inhaler? battery operated interface for a air freshener?

Either way, glad you are here, and look forward to chatting with you on the boards

OH

I don't want to say everyone should take this up as their life quest, or that there aren't situation where "under the radar" is the right way, but I wouldn't do this (at least not most of the times).

First, I don't like lying, but I guess that's a personal option.

Second, when people ask me about the devices, more often than not they are genuinely curious; and quite often they are very happily surprised about the information I give them. They either smoke or know someone who smokes, and realize (there's, about 2 minutes into my speech, a almost visible light bulb going off next to their heads!) it's something that might save their / loved one's life. So why not give them that chance?!

soon as you say nicotine all the images of what cigarette's can do to you in a bad sense is brought to the front of the brain....ahhh viva la mass hypnosis

Indeed.

So third, it's amazing to me how much misinformation is out there. Almost always, I get follow up questions such as "but if there is nicotine, then it's just as bad, right?!" or "why doesn't it look like those e-cigarettes I see on the web?" or "but I heard they don't help you quit - you still smoke, right?" or "I bet it tastes like crap!" or "how do you know it's not a scam?" or "they must be really expensive to use!"... Answering these questions is worth, to me, the extremely rare "you're still smoking and I hate you for that" attitude.

Yes! You have something potentially good to offer, and when you actually know what PVs are all about and make sure to explain it plainly, address their fears and be honest about the unknowns it will work!

I have become an unofficial spokesman for vaping. I passed the 100 day mark a week or so ago and I am still in awe at how easy it was for me to go from 2+ PAD to exclusive vaping. I carry ECF cards with me and in only the span of a few weeks I have gone thru 50. This product is a lifesaving product and the masses need to know about it! Every chance I get I'm whipping out my eGo w a tank on it, or a REO with a crazy drip tip on it. Like the other guys said for the most part I am getting the lightbulb reaction after a couple of minutes. I have had a couple of women go into tears after a couple of minutes of conversation, when they realize what I am proposing to them.
I love your idea, and I agree people need access to good info. They need to be shown the way is NOT free trials or disposables that claim to be something their not. Most of the people whom I get a negative reaction from have had a bad experience or know nothing except what they hear about "those things blowing up in your face". If I had not found ECF a couple of days into my Googled starter kit, I would of ended up with the same story you started with.
Another point to getting people good info that dont have internet access is that there is a thread here that states that a guy bought an APV for a friend who didnt have internet, and soon after the friend went out and bought batts that were not compatible. Well you know how this tale ends....
I will be putting more thought into this and will get back to you. There are downloadable PDF docus here just for your mentioned purpose.

Your idea is a commendable one and I would love to hear when you have accomplished it. I have met with the same types of people you have, and I've convinced some while walking away from others. It just depends on how firmly closed the mind is that I'm talking to. Folks without internet access are going to be harder to convince simply because they do not have access to all the good stuff vaping has to offer like personal experiences, helpful knowledge, great devices and great vendors.

I keep an old laptop at work. When one of my co worker wants something, I pull it up and order it for them. You'd be surprised how many people don't have internet or debit cards.

They hand me cash. I give them their hardware when it shows up. I keep cartos that I sell to them, and make juice for them.

I turn a small profit on that, but it's not enough to make it worth my time.

The most important thing we as vapers can do to show the world that this works.... is to succeed. Keep vaping. Over time, they will see that it works and ask the serious questions.

Converted well over 100 people and I've found that are not on the net the only way they believe is to actually try the device. Have "loaned" many Kgos and they all immediately buy them the next day. I find the tougher part is getting used to the delivery systems. With those that have a tough time refilling I hook them up with tanks/ prepunched cartos. As for older folks not being on the net I've been surfing for 15 yrs and am turning 60. All my friends in the same age category are on the net and couldn't live without. Sad when you hear folks not being net Davy/ hooked up.
Good luck with your project.
When converting people I also give them a DVD with tutorials- works really well having all the important stuff within reach.

thank you for all the replies. im going to give it a shot. a loaner device is a great idea too.
I gave away my original KR808s. I had 6 batts. When I realized they were basically a scam I took advantage of the "lifetime warranty as long as your a member of their home delivery refill program". They had auto batts so every few days I called them and said my batts were not working or acting funny. One time I received one in the mail and called right away and said it was doa. So when all was said and done I got my moneys worth out of the grossly overpriced starter kit, and 2 of my neighbors got 3 batts each and by that time I had found a site where we could get blank cartos. Both of those people now exclusively vape. I loaned the mailcarrier one of my eGos and she took it out to the bar, as she said if she could drink for an evening and not smoke she new it was a winner. She hasn't ordered yet but shes close.
