Non-smoker looking to start vaping

I consider myself a non-smoker even though up until this past year I probably smoked a pack a year. Just socially and I never let myself get addicted. Then my company said I could get cheaper insurance if I quit tobacco altogether.

Since I have taken an interest in E-cigs. I know they are healthier than smoking but would it be smart for a non-smoker who just likes the feel of smoking to even start? I just can't make up my mind as to how non-threatening they say it is yet.

Any thoughts on if a non-smoker should start vaping?

If you are not addicted to nic why would you risk it. Members here have spent years and many many methods to get off of it. Yes, it is a healtier addiction, but it is still an addiction. Why chance it?

Maybe I am not addicted to the nic, but I do crave the sensation. I mean it is not strong enough that I can't ignore it. But sometimes I just want a cig. I guess I just want the perfect vice to satisfy my cravings.

why do you say that swedishfish?

If you don't smoke except for one or two a year, why do it? It's sort of a pricey, involved thing to do if you rarely smoke. I vape because I'm addicted to cigs and can't quit. Maybe you'd stick with 0 nicotine and maybe you wouldn't.

I'd also be careful as far as testing goes. I honestly don't know what shows up when they test you. Do they just take your word for it that you don't smoke or do they do a blood test?

As far as I know they just take our word for it. I have never heard of anyone being tested. As far as the frequency, I am sure it would go up if I knew it was a healthier alternative.

Respectfully, I don't think you should. I BELIEVE I've traded one addiction for another and lowered the risk to my health tremendously. But I don't know that for sure, and there really isn't any data that says vaping is 'safe'.

If you're asking for my personal opinion, I'd say no. One or two a year isn't worth getting involved in buying juice, filling carts, charging batteries. I have never vaped a 0 nicotine juice, so I can't tell you what sort of flavor you get with no nicotine.

If I had a 'do over' it'd be that I never ever smoked. Would vaping 0 nicotine lead to vaping nicotine? I don't know the answer to that but why chance it.

Thank you, I respect your opinion, I guess I just have to make my own mind up.

Why? Because you're going to spend alot of money!

I don't know, there is a local distributor that has decent prices and as long as I don't increase the frequency of my smoking drastically I can still get by pretty cheap. Maybe I am chasing after something that is unattainable by thinking I can dabble in this and not get hooked.

If I only smoked 1 or 2 cigs a month even, I would continue to smoke just 1 or 2 cigs a month. No way I would start vaping. The risk of 1 or 2 cigs a month is very very minimal. No one knows what the risk of vaping is yet. I vape because I do believe it is a safer alternative to smoking. I feel much better since I stopped smoking, but I am still an addict to nicotine. If you buy a pv to use just as often as you smoke a cig now, that would be a huge waste of money in my opinion. And I imagine your juice supply would go bad before you used it up.

Would I recommend someone putting something potentially harmful into their lungs? NO!

Just the same as if you asked me "should I take up smoking".

If you are a non smoker, then I think it would be very very silly to take up vaping because you "like the idea of a cigarette". I think if anyone here had a choice, they would not be smokers OR vapers. But we got addicted to nicotine, and this is, in our opinion, better. If you aren't addicted to nicotine, I see no value, only risk. Just my opinion.

Maybe I should rephrase my original question. I know it would not be cost effective to smoke only a few times a month and buy a pv. I guess I am planning on increasing my usage since it is a safer alternative and there is my real question. should I even start? I know the risk of addiction, and if that is the only real health concern than I am alright with that risk. I guess I am looking for someone who is like me that has started with fresh lungs so I can see if they have had any problems that maybe a veteran smoker has not had.

Here is my two cents. No one can decide what your going to do, but you did ask and I think you should get options. If your going to do it, then your going to do it. What most have not mentioned is that a lot of non-smokers enjoy the taste of vaping. You could always order a zero nic juice. I am an ex-smoker of 20 years and I vap mostly sweet juices. I dont care for the tobacco flavored juices. This way your not smoking anymore and doing what (from the sounds of it) you want to do.
