Hi everybody,

My wife and I are both long-term pack-a-day smokers with dreams of quitting. A few months ago she did some research and ordered us a couple of Blu kits. It's been a weird transition but I've cut about %40 and she's cut about %30 of normal cigs since using the Blu. Shortly after we got those I started poking around and found this site. Needless to say I was overwhelmed and confused by the amount of info and the depth of vaping, but I am completely intrigued.

I know the thoughts on Blu around here, and I'm starting to get why. Overall, the Blu has been pretty good. I love the rechargable pack, the battery life has not been a problem, the flavors are decent and the simplicity of use are all great. What I'm starting to hate is the inconsistency of quality and flavor from the cartridges. I recently ordered a hundred bucks worth of Java Jolt and Cherry. The majority of the Java ones don't work properly. I feel like I have to suck till my head hurts to get much out of it. The cherry ones are delicious but the flavor doesn't last very long. I'm really looking to take this to the next step and try to become an almost exclusive vaper, but it's really tough when I'm stuck at work all day with a couple of crappy tasting/barely working cartridges.

All that being said, I cannot wrap my head around the stuff I see here. What's the difference between a 510/joy/ego/atomizer/cartomizer etc etc etc???? Are these brands, are they models? I'm really stuck.

I really want something small, easy, convenient and reliable. I'm also excited to be able to find awesome tasting juices that can be swapped out easily, but I have no idea where to start.

Does anybody have some suggestions on a similar setup to the Blu that allows for more reliable usage and ease of trying new flavors? Sorry for being long-winded and needy. Thanks so much for any help!

I've never tried the KGO that Klynnn linked you to but I have heard positives about it. I just want to add that those "SLB 2.0ohm EGO Clearomizers" that come with it (also known by other names such as stardust) are good little units. I use them for my favorite flavors, the ones I'm likely to want all day long. They're just simple in my humble opinion. Good luck ,and welcome.

510- A standardised design for the threads that connect your battery to the atomizer. There are others, but 510 is by far the most common. You can put any 510 atomizer, cart, etc on a 510 battery.

JoyE- a brand name.

eGo- a popular line of lower end batteries. They are 510 connectors, but have an extra set of threads around the outside, which is not always used.

Atomizer (atty)- the heating coil that actually does the vaporizing. They can be standalone- just a connector and a coil inside a short tube that you drip jiuce directly on to, or they can be integrated in other systems.

Cartridge (cart)- A small tube filled with filler that you soak in juice, then stick onto a standalone atomizer. (I beleive the Blu uses this) refillable, but ultimately disposable.

Cartomizer (carto)- a Tube with filler and an atomizer embedded inside it. refillable, but ultimately disposable.

Clearomizer (clearo)- a tube with no filler. Has an atomizer with a wick of some sort. Fill the tube with juice and the wick transports it to the atomizer. refillable, but ultimately disposable.

Carto Tank- A tank that fits around your cartomizer. Poke a hole in the Cartomizer, and fill the tank with juice. The juice leaks into the cartomizer from the tank. The tanks are long term, but the cartos are disposable.

Vivi Nova- a specific product- it is basically a clearomizer with replacable heads. They have the added advantage of being able to be rebuily with new coild and wicks on the cheap. Coils and wicks disposable, but the rest is long term.

As far as suggestions- you will get a ton. The eGo Twist is well liked, as is the Spinner. Both are variable voltage (you can turn them up or down to suit your preferences). Personally, if reliability is the goal, I'd stay away from the inexpensive battery/pv combo units and look into one that you can change out the battery itself.

A standalone atomizer works best for testing juices.

A realy great device is the Echo. The cartomizers are easy to refill with juice, which from any vender is cheaper than prefilled cartos, and the last a long time with many refills. They have no buttons to wory about which the Ego and K Go do. Basicly its a big version of your Blu, but it actualy works. I also highly recomend the K Go. Its easy to deal with, reliable, simple, and cheap. Good luck.

WOW! Thanks so much guys! One hour and I got so much good information. Definitely helpful. I'll start researching this stuff.

So from what I'm gleaming from all of this I will need two components for a simple set-up; a battery and a cartomizer. Then I can get juices to refill into the cartomizers and then just screw them onto the battery like I do with the Blu? Am I off-base?

Thanks again!

You're not really off-base. :) I would strongly suggest more than one battery and more than one cartomizer or clearomizer. I've got four batteries and a dozen stardusts in my desk drawer. Who wants to get stuck in a pinch, right? Don't forget the charger. Your blu charger probably won't work with another setup.

The Blu uses cartomizers prefilled. They are 510 connections. So, you could use other, blank 510 carto's and fill with the juice you like. But you will be better served by buying a better device. You can use the Blu cartomizers on your new 510 device if you have any you want to use up.

One thing that is very, very important: The Blu uses reverse polarity from every other thing out there. So, do NOT use its charger on anything else. So whatever you get, you will need a charger.

I am one of the eGo Twist fans (I have since moved on to a Provari and a Gripper, but still have my twists and still use them daily until they die).

Also you can boil any used Blu cartos and refill them. On my old ones, I boiled them, rinsed, then used a syringe (w/out needle) to flush out anything left behind, and let them dry overnight by an open window. Then refill them and they should be gtg. I think I had a couple that I compacted the filler too much, but they all ended up working.

I actually did this on 808 cartos, but it should work on 510 ones

Also agree with the Mini Vivi Nova...
A plastic or metal tank with a wick and element. Contains NO stuffing. The rebuildables come with heads (coil+ wick) that can be cheaply and easily replaced. When the head burns out simply unscrew the old head out and screw in new head- takes 10 secs. My heads are lasting about 4 weeks BUT I wash the heads every few days. I've found the Vivi Nova to give the best draw.

+ 1 for the Nova's. I got a few DCT's (dual coil carts) about a month back to have as backups, and personally, if I had had them first, I probably would not have stuck with it. The Nova's (I have the mini's used with ego twist batteries) are really great. Get a few, fill them up, and just swap them out on the battery (or hook one up to each battery like I do) and go! After a tank or two, I take them apart, rinse them out, clean the wicks, let them dry and fill them back up. I keep about a dozen heads/wicks in rotation, so I am always good to go! I have 2 stardust clearomizers too (same concept) and they too are amazing!!
