Noob Post #3: Public Vape Etiquette

Well, there are different types of vapers out there. There are some who have setups that blow huge clouds of vapor....I'm not necessarily one of them, so my vaping is more discreet in general anyway, unless I'm going somewhere (bar/restaurant, or friend's house) where I know it won't cause a stir.
In other words, I have minimal setups to where my juice is more pg than vg, etc., reducing the visible vapor.
Now, when I'm at home, it's a different story.

As a rule of thumb I personally only vape where allowed to smoke,

Where I live the police will fine you if you vape in the car with the kids, stating that if it looks like you are smoking then they treat it as such when driving and kids in the car.

I can sorta see where they are coming from, trying to separate the smokers from the vaper's on the road would be a challenge.

While I understand the police policy as far as enforcement, since there's no statute against vaping in your car with your kids, here's what you should do: Be polite, take the ticket, go to court for the 30 seconds it'll take to be thrown out.
(OK, so it'll probably cost you 1/2 a day to get your 30 seconds in court, but you'll win)

I follow a rule of personal courtesy.

Yes, I vape in my home, yet I never smoked inside. As for public... I will vape in public outdoor spaces like cafes with outside tables, or parks where 'no smoking' permitted...

As for indoor public vaping... I play board games with groups in public places like game stores, pizza joints and cafes. In that situation, if I feel the urge to vape, I will take a small toot, then ask if it bothers anyone. I take the toot first because I want to show that it is not smoke, and it smells good, and dissipates almost instantly.

If anyone says they are offended, or it bothers them, I treat it like smoking and go outside. If no one is bothered, I continue, but with smaller draws than if I were outside or at home.

While no law against Vaping I am in Canada, the kids want to see us vape instead of smoke true but not in the car -lol
As far as fight a ticket why? I have been doing this 4 1/2 years now and see no need.

Police have always been polite when talking to me, mostly asking questions and they do a good job of monitoring for using cell phones while driving etc.

I had a good conversation with one about it. They had one person that kept a cigalike in the car and when stopped would present saying I am Vaping, what he was actually doing was smoking cigs and using a cigalike to get away with it ( kids let the cat out of the bag-lol)

I mainly treat vaping as I did smoking. Outside mostly while at work. The difference is I vape at home, indoors, right on my couch. I used to smoke in the garage. I've also taken stealth hits at work. Just one or two while I'm seriously stressed.

Just an fyi, an airplane restroom smoke detector is more sensitive than those in public buildings or in personal residences...at vapefest 2013 in Vegas the flamingo hotel and casino had to ask attendees to not vape in the restrooms because it was in fact setting off the detectors...repeatedly...so if it would set off there you can bet the aircraft lavatory would set off...along with a hefty federal penalty...

The federal penalty is only part of the financial 'fun' : if the detector goes off and the pilot decides not to waste time with having the alarm investigated but to touch down at the nearest available airport, the airline will send you the bill for that too...

High PG, stealth, exhaling through tissue papers...so much has been written and posted about keeping the vapors from those not in the know...

I pretty much vape where others are allowed to smoke. At home anywhere I want. At work, just like when I was smoking, I go outside. I don't think I am the guy to push the envelope very much as far vaping in public is concerned.

Makes sense. I would not want to stampede the sheeple into a negative image of vaping. Do they even know that a fart is more harmful and much more noxious? I find that if I hold my vape in, there is no visible vapor upon exhalation..................

You should do your research and learn the history of vaping. Vaping was banned nationwide in 2009 before there were hardly any vapers, much less those doing it in public. Vaping bans and severe restrictions have NOTHING to do with people vaping openly most places but respectfully.

Acting like vaping is exactly the same as smoking will send the exact WRONG perception about vaping. Vaping openly in public (including buildings) but respectfully and with common sense, is the path many of us follow. And being well prepared to educate the uninformed about what vaping is and is not. Everyone needs to educate themselves and the best place to do that is CASAA.

Go to and join (it's free) CASAA (http://casaa.org/). Or do nothing and just let vaping be banned and severely restricted.

Summary: Everyone has their own ideas and splitting hairs over which is better, or which is more effective, or which is politically engaging can be divisive. I'm happy for anyone who tries to have some scrupples and consideration for others is all.

As mentioned before this subject is brought up about every other day around here. I understand wanting to discuss it with fellow vaper's as opposed to just reading transcripts and archives. Hope you have a good conversation.

Here where I live, vaping is still quite new. And if you vape indoors, you're the centre of attention, highly probably you "kena" (means busted in malay slang)
I can't bring myself to do that, but most of my friends do, which makes me wanna pretend I don't know them.
A lot of people here just think it's a matter of law so they don't give a fug, but it's also a matter of manners
