Hi guys
Well I've been vaping on my new black & gold Reo Mini 18490 for about a week now. Really loving it & saving up for a nice stone drip tip to make it purdier. :)
But here's a problem I'm having. Hope you can help.
I loved my Smoketech 1.7 ohm XL cartos on my Kgo. I like the vape I get & throat hit @ 3.7 volts. So I figured they would work just as well on the Reo. But they don't. This past week I have burned 2 cartos in the Reo. Got that burning taste that never goes away. So I had to toss them. Right now I'm using Boge LR 2.0 ohm carto cuz I didn't want a burn taste. But the 2.0 ohm vape is not as good as the 1.7 ohm vape.
Now keep in mind that I have metered everything...batteries & cartos...so that is not the problem. Nothing is out of whack meter-wise.
So here's what I'm thinking:
I read that you Reo carto folks use Smoketech SHORTY 1.7 ohm cartos. Could I be having a problem because I'm using Smoketech XLs instead of shorties???
I await your wisdom.

Someone with more experience will answer I'm sure. Sounds like you might be on the right track maybe the close is too large so it's not getting wet enough. Maybe squonk more or try a normal sized carto.

Are you prefilling the carto then squonking every so often? I use cartos all the time on my grand and vv grand, but I prefill then squonk every so often to keep the carto wet.
Well I did prefill the first one that burned. But not the second one. Just squawked on it.
Good point okcodemonkey. I will make sure to prefill.
Do you use shorty, regular, or XL cartos?

Edit: darn autocorrect...i mean squonk...not squawk!!! LOL

Congratulations and welcome!!!!!

This calls for a banana dance!!!!!:banana::banana::banana::banana:

As far as burning issues 2 thoughts come to mind. The first is 4.2v with fresh batts. Possibly causing the issues with the slightly higher voltage and your juice reacting to it. The other is over squonking the carto. I found when I did use cartos that keeping them to saturated over fluffed the filling resulting in a burnt tasting juice follqowed by a clogged carto... then again under squonking can result in a burnt taste but that's more of a burnt filler taste as opposed to the burnt juice flavor.

If you haven't tried an atty on your REO yet, I would highly recommend giving them a shot.

By the way would love to see a pic of your new REO when you get time. :)

I have used the shortys, regular, and xl. I found on the shortys I over squonked. I do find that my XLs get the burnt taste faster, usually after 2.5-3 bottles (so 18ml). I mostly use attys now, but will switch it up on occasion to use up my carto inventory.

I also dry puff a lot with cartos as I find the liquid will just hang out near the tubes and not get to the filler if I don't.

Neither DH or I liked the shorties. Sorry, but I can't really put my finger on it. We have been using Smoketech regular and XL for over a year, but I, also, use, attys and now mostly RBAs. We don't prefill carto but lightly squonk a few times before actual firing and vaping. Some of the Smoketech cartos will never be good from initial opening. That is just the nature of loose QC. Also, the ohm rating on them varies considerably. I don't like any carto > 1.8 ohm on 3.7 REOs. When you purchase them, they are usually labeled 1.7-2.0 ohm. Some of them are 1.7 and some are above. 2.0 Boge cartos just aren't warm enough for DH or me, and he's a "sissy" vaper. He can't do <1.7 but doesn't get satisfaction from anything above 1.9.

Cartos are the most user friendly. But they are not created equal.... not even in the same lot production/same brand. So it's not always user error as we experienced vapers do get occasional cartos that are just bad from the beginning.

A lot of people love the super shorties. That should say something about them. And Smoketech are the best of both worlds for low cost and quality. Cartos have a short life but they are so much cheaper than most attys, especially if one tends to "kill" attys.

More delicate flavors are usually muted by cartos to some degree but many are not.

"Dry puff"?
What's a "dry puff"? And why?

Thanks for the replies everyone. I will order some Smoketech shorties as I really prefer the warmer vape on the 1.7 ohm cartos.

Yep. I have CISCO 306 atties. But my atty-playa needs some practice still.

As for a pic of that new black & gold Reo, I will get a round tuit. LoL. Seems I'm always on my iPhone instead of my computer when on ECF. Have to be on the puter to be able to post a pic. I'll get 'er done soon.

Dry puff is taking a drag without firing. Helps to move the liquid. I use the technique on bottom feeders a lot to tell me if I need to squonk or not. Also helps suck up the liquid from the well.

Welcome to the Reo world :) sounds like you have the best atties. If you use clear or semi clear drip tips your off to the races for learning to use them :) off topic but if you have an iPhone photo bucket will easily post your pics here there is an app for it :D
