Hello all. I have been smoking cigarettes for 41 years and I simply cannot afford them anymore. I just today received my vaporesso Armour Max and I have already managed to destroy the 0.2 ohm mesh coil by powering it with no liquid in the mod. I hope you can accept me and excuse what I assume will be a litany of questions.

No problems. I don’t remember if I did that too the first time. It would certainly be reasonable. Any questions we I think will be happy to answer them. You may not get the same answer though from everyone as there is some of this stuff that is partially or completely unknown alsoThere is a lot of injected FUD and a few myths in this subject. Ironically often stemming from the largest and best known rather than the reverse as is usually the case. can tell you the cheapest way I know of to vape, but my knowledge is old and may be out of date. That short form is use an RDA or RDTA, mix your own juice, and try to find alternate sources for things.

About the coil :
If your cotton in your coil is burn out, you must to change your coil, and put a new coil in, otherwise you are going to have that burning taste in your mouth and the coughing every time that you are going to inhale from it !

The coils they don't last forever and after some use they tend to fade out, so after a while we have to change them with new ones, (plus sometimes it happens the coil to be defective from the factory) ! Every time that you're going to using a new coil, you have to put a few drops of e-liquid in, then put it in your tank, then fill up your tank, then let it down for some minutes (5-10) so your coil has the time to be full saturated with e-liquid so it can work properly !

About the coughing :
In the beginning we all had the coughing !
It's a stage that your body - organism have to adopt - pass through, because of the new way to getting your nicotine from smoking to vaping, after a while you are getting to use the new way and everything goes smoothly !
After some time, if you still have the coughing... probably it's better to find a deferrent type of kit ( a MTL kit that you can use it in less watts 10 - 15, and less air from your tank, or your e-liquid (your VG - PG ratio), or your nicotine level on your e-liquid !

For now i think it's better to watch a few reviews of your kit so you can understand the type of your kit, and how to use it more efficient !

If you have any questions - issues, hit us again !

(And again, it's just my opinion, and how i see some things, maybe someone else has a better answer, or he can explain better than me... !?
Yeah, my English aren't the best out there, but i think that you can get my point of view... !?)

When I first started vaping, yes I would cough my guts up practically. Nicotine vapor is not like tobacco smoke and it does take getting used to. For vaping to work to get you off cigs, you have to really really want to quit smoking tobacco and once you get your coil situation squared away, every time you get the urge to smoke, make the conscious effort to vape instead. This will work. I smoked for 42 years and I went through what you're describing. You must endeavor to persevere.

What is the nic strength of your juice?

Most of us would have worked up to a set up like yours instead of starting there. Like @TARTARA suggested, a low watt/higher ohm kit with a mouth-to-lung inhale approach might be the training wheels you’re looking for.

    Welcome to ecf @Yankee00.

First of all, thank you to all for your input. Secondly, Coyote628, Chief Dan George would be proud of you!

Just as an FYI, I was fortunate that the Vaporesso kit came with a spare 0.4 ohm coil and that is what I am using after killing the pre-installed 0.2 ohm coil.

bombastinator2, all I know about the coil is Vaporesso calls it GTi.

smacuser, the juice I bought is made by Pod Juice and is the 6mg strength.

TARTARA, just a little background on my smoking career, I have been smoking Marlboro Ultra Lights for almost the entirety. I did attempt to do research before jumping into this, but at least in the US, the first two or three pages of Google results were sponsored by the American Lung/Heart Association, or another org trying to convince kids to quite vaping. I turned to Youtube and found that it APPEARS that the UK has embraced vaping much more so than the US and I learned some things from those videos.

I am hoping that between knowing what I bought as well as my smoking history, you all might be able to provide me with some tweaks to make this work for me? Thank you all in advance.

Then it’s a coil cartridge. Rdtas and rdas have the other type. It is cheaper but messier. It’s in the range of a dollar for a rewick or a third of a cotton ball which I think costs less than a penny. It all depends on whether that number matters to you or not. Many people who use the other type rewick daily. I don’t myself. More than once a week though.

Thank you, bombastinator2. Couple of quick noob questions. Would the Ohm rating on the coil have anything to do with my coughing? Secondly, why do people "rewick"/replace coils so often?

It might if it’s low. It might also be that you just have to get used to it. Overly High Nic content could do that. Other things that may apply: if the coil cartridge has a Ni coil in it about 1/3rd of humanity is allergic to nickel. Theyre no longer common though. Another could be a PG sensitivity. High PG juices can cause that. When it happens it usually does suddenly after a few months but it does happen off the bat too. Since everything is new a dirty wick or coil is unlikely. The way Nic is marked has changed apparently since I started so I’m a poor judge of Nic level. I mix my own so I still use the old system. One test, though an expensive one, would be to buy a bottle of high VG zero in the same flavor as you have now, try some of that and see if it makes you cough. If it does it’s just a “getting used to it” thing the metal in the coil, or the flavoring used. A flavor change may or may not help. If it doesn’t it could be the low pg or the absence of nicotine. You can mix the zero with differing levels of the nic juice to find a nic level that works for you. If you cough at low levels it could be a sensitivity problem. If you cough at higher levels but not at lower levels it could be a Nic level thing.

The MTL type of vape it's much closer to a normal cigarette "draw - inhale"... !
Personal i prefer the MTL type, i think it's much easier and more economical on everything, e-liquids - coils - batteries - and wear and tare on the chipset of the mod... ! Plus i have a few tanks with more air (something like yours) so i can do them during the day if i need - want to... ! Just saying... !?

But the whole point is :
That you can find the kit that fits you and what do you prefer... ! It's up to you... !

Welcome to ECF! You'll find lots of good info here, and many wonderful people. One thing I haven't seen mentioned regarding the coughing, is that for some people the airflow also plays a role. @TARTARA touched on that with the suggestion of trying MTL, but when I first started I needed to be able to adjust the airflow during the course of the day. The first few vapes of the day I would cough like crazy unless I adjusted the airflow wide open first (seems counter-intuitive to me now but that was what worked for me) then gradually tighten it back up until I had it where I liked it best. So I guess I would suggest that when looking at options, make sure the atty had adjustable airflow. Of course most do, but just something to keep in mind.

This is good info. I need to dig into my owner's manual to see if this is adjustable on my mod.
