This is absolutely amazing that this one post created an avalanche of approval. What is this telling you vendors? Seems some of you are really dropping the ball. I bet mudflap when you posted this rant you never intended to snowball into this.

It's hard to see it from our perspective, but barring any FDA intervention, juice vendors (even the ones that charge a buck a ml) are going to be fine. For every experienced vaper who's become fed up with the juice market, there's a hundred experienced vapers who are fine with it, and a hundred new vapers who don't know any better.

Which is all, of course, fine by me. Doesn't affect me one bit. I know what I like and how to make it.

in the ecigvape calculator next to the flavor area it asks for flavor percentage. Should I put 100% because most or at least the flavorings I am using are PG?

Nope, you put the percentage of flavor you want in your juice. Most vendors are 10-15%. I make mine at 20% cause I like lots of flavor!

There are two sections in this calculator. One that asks for flavor percentage which I am assuming is between 5-15% but another down lower that asks about the pg/vg percentage. That is the part that's confusing.

You only enter in the top part where it says enter your flavor and amounts. It shows spaces for 6 flavors. You can divide the total amount of flavor you want into separate flavors. You put in the percent for each flavor.

What is at the bottom is telling you what and how much to use.

O.K. I see it. Yes, you would put 100% under PG for flavor.

thanks. also, I am guessing some flavors are stronger than others. In this case, I guess I would have to research and see how much of each percentage I would have to use?

edited for stupidity.

sorry, yes flavors. I have read some are stronger than others. For example, people say PA flavors are generally stronger. I would assume I have to adjust for that.

It is a matter of taste. You might drop your percentage of flavor in a juice where you are using PA instead of let's say LorAnn. But only if you know that is what you like. I use various brands of flavors and use the same percent of flavor in my juice. Just starting out that would be a lower priority than knowing what percent total of flavor you want in your juice.

I generally go by smell. If when I open the bottle the smell is overpowering, I start out at a low percentage of that flavor. (TPA's caramel cappuccino comes to mind) If I have to put it to my nose to smell it I jump right to 15-20%. It's easy to add a few drops of flavor later on if it's too weak.

I just made the best menthol juice that I have ever tasted. This alone makes it all worth while to me. This came after several epic failures. Don't get discouraged you will make juices that taste like crap, use a good calc and take notes and change them as you adjust the juice. It will work its self out.

I agree. 10% to 20% is about right for most juices but it also depends on the vendor that makes the flavoring. I've used some vendors where 15% was enough and another vendor I have to use as much as 30% to get the flavor I want. That's seem pretty high but if the flavor isn't there I keep adding more.

Some vendors flavors are stronger than others. PA is one of the stronger ones. DIY Juice is one of the weaker flavors but the best flavors I've found. I have to mix my strawberry at around 30% to get the flavor. I use to use PA flavors but it is pretty unforgiving. If you add just a drop too much then the taste is off and it's hard to fix. I never get a chemical or perfumey taste with DIY Juice when I add too much. Wizard Labs flavors don't have that chemical taste either if you add too much but I'm still experimenting with his flavors. I mix his at around 15% - 20%. For me, different vendor, different percentage. I'm down to 2 fav vendors now and I print out each recipe so I don't forget the percentage of flavor that I used in the last batch.

Great stuff. Learning DIY myself.

The great thing these boards is, most people are so giving with their methods and recipes, most notably some real master mixologists

The more sharing and open we all are, the less we'll have to depend on vendors for top notch juice (and the more successful we may even be in forcing vendor juice prices down eventually as this forum and DIY grows)

Its also 'safer' in the long run, IMO, in the opinion of a big brother crack down. Aside from Nic (which can be loaded up on and frozen I believe) they can only regulate flavoring so much (I hope)...

Brotherhood/Sisterhood among vapors keeps big brother and vendors in check, all in one fell swoop!

Agreed,
For anyone wanting to start, really its fun. Strange mixtures can happen at first, just use small amounts till getting the proportions right and dont get discouraged,( bit like learning to cook, but fun ) Soon you have oodles of tasty juice exactly to your taste, thats the satisfying bit! Weaker taste, stronger taste, less nic, more nic, all according to how you like your juice and how creative you feel like getting.
You can use top quality ingredients, and still save a whack of Money, much less postage costs as well.

Oh mama! I think I may have hit the mother lode. Too cool. I made a batch yesterday that is, bar none, the best juice I've ever tasted. I couldn't put it down. This morning, it tastes even better. This is coming right on the heels of making 3 really tasty batches. This batch has very little in common with the previous 3 except that they are all made around a tobacco base. This is a fairly complex recipe with more flavors than I can shake my...er...more flavors than I can shake a stick at. :)

I, too, have had epic failures. Most end up in a junk jug and a few have been poured down the drain. I'll hold my nose and vape from the junk jug when it gets too full. I can't see wasting the juice.

It's nice to see that others are also having great success!
