sorry, yes flavors. I have read some are stronger than others. For example, people say PA flavors are generally stronger. I would assume I have to adjust for that.

Some other good new DIY threads starting up. 'Str8V8ping' posted this sensible technique for dealing with flavor strength:

P.S. The troops are assembling here. I have PG, VG, Seedmans, and am waiting on a nicjuice, flavors, bottles and measuring implements. Encouraged by all the successes in this thread and even the failures! Looking forward to this bigtime. Thanks all.

So many posts to read through 8-o

I hope I don't repost but geez...thanks Mudflap for making such a good point...I have spent SO much money on trying out all the stupid sampler packs to find I don't like 4 out of the 5 juices. I feel like I'm spending more money then when I used to smoke by trying out all these sampler packs.

I haven't started the DIY method yet, that's a whole new ballgame to me but at least I have a vendor I know is usually always consistent in their USA juices and the 30-50% off coupons that come (30ml for $9 bucks) is a steal.

I'm sure I'll eventually spend 3 hours reading a post about the DIY method....

I found that the biggest obstacle of DIY was just fear of the unknown. It just (at first) seemed like something that would be complicated. I mentally had it way up there with building my own mod. (Actually, even that has become demystified to me after this long....but I refuse to buy a soldering iron... :)) Once I started DIYing, I saw the logic behind it all and it's so simple that I figured I was doing it wrong for a long time. BUT....I liked the juice and it gave me the nic I needed, so I figured what the heck. You can make it as complicated as you want....or as simple.

I premix my nic juice with some PG and some VG (more VG than PG) to the nic level I'm vaping at the moment in a plastic bottle used for catsup/mustard that I got for cheap at Walmart. I'm not sure how much it holds, but I mix about 240ml at a time. Then I bought a bunch of flavors I thought I would like from various places. I usually mix 10ml on the first batch of a flavor, and I use 10% flavor with 90% of my premix. I adjust the flavor while I'm vaping the 10ml bottle, then make 30 or 60ml of the juice if I like it, and I'm good to go. I have simple tastes and actually prefer one or two-flavor juices. I also NEVER vape tobacco flavored juices (which I'm sure would be way more complicated to make.)

I started buying in bulk almost immediately, and I can make 30ml of juice for around a dollar. I buy VG in 16oz. bottles, I buy PG by the gallon, and I get my nic juice 500ml at a time when it's on sale. I reuse my bottles, and the biggest expense turns out to be the flavoring. I'll never buy juice again, and haven't for over a year now. Actually, I got a whole bunch of those 39 cent samples back a few months ago from...??? (can't remember...they weren't very good) because I wanted the 6ml bottles to clean out and use. That was cheap for bottles....

I used a simple calculator at first, but now I just have my percentages down and I pretty much play it by ear. To me it's totally fun and easy and cheap. Could never justify buying juice ever again.

I used to get 2-3 packages every single week buying everything new I read about. Once I got my hardware down (REOs and HH 357s) the only things left to play with are drip tips and flavors.

So I just got my 'feeler' order in from Wizard Labs, and I must say I'm initially very impressed. I haven't made anything with the nic or flavors that I ordered yet, so that'll be a different report, but their care in packaging and shipping is exceptional - the nic base was in a tamper-proof sealed jar with a clear lot number, wrapped in plastic, surrounded by small-bubble wrap, surrounded by large-bubble wrap. The 3 vials of flavoring I ordered were in a ziplock, surrounded by small-bubble wrap, surrounded by large-bubble wrap. All wraps were heat-sealed instead of taped, and they even tossed in a couple of pipettes and a sample of their banana flavor for good measure.

Well done, Wizard Labs. If the quality of your product is as impressive as the packaging, you'll be getting a lot more of my money.

Mudflap and everyone else,
I want to thank you Mudflap for the post that finally encouraged me to try this.
I want to thank everyone else for the support and patience in answering my questions. You have no idea what can of worms you have opened though. I am slow to learn and you will probably be answering questions for the next two years, and simple ones:)

I did it though. Ordered a ton of flavors from four different people. Some we crossovers so I could really see which company I liked best.

I have everything I need coming. You will all know when I get it, because that is when the questions will really start :)

Thanks again everyone!

Good luck! We will help all we can. I came up with a very easy way to test flavors today without wasting a lot of juice!

Is there a site or area on the forum where a lot of juice recipes are posted? Recipes with reviews would be ideal! If not, anyone want to take on this as a project?

There's a Reomods sticky that has juice recipes.

And there is this site but it's not on the forum.

E-Liquid Recipe Book

Also here for reviews. E-Liquid Reviews

I completely empathize with your sentiment. At the same time, I've really looked into this and it may be a bit of an overstatement to call the current market overpriced. With everything included, I determined that I could produce (and sell) commercial e-liquid for a 8.04 per 30ml basic cost...just under the established 100% retail markup...this takes into account alot of things that go along with running a commercial e-liquid business...like for example an effective 9% cc processing fee (7.95% + gateway fees + costly setup fees + .25 per charge, etc) and this is because e-cigs (and hence e-liquid) is considered the "high risk of the high risk" industry. Then there is website hosting, and a ton of smaller expenses you would never think of that all add up. Of course you can make it yourself for much, much, less (I DIY myself, and I commend your intelligent choice) but could you SELL it for much, much less? Not really. I feel like it's a pretty good overall industy, and one that the long-time vaper with common sense (and time and the inclination to DIY) is almost certainly going to abandon at some point...but I don't think anyone is inflating the pricing unduly.
