Hi, I am very interested in getting one of these for my mother!

I have been reading a lot of posts and watching a lot of youtube vids as well. I am kinda in info-overload as I am sure is common with people trying to research this on their own.

My main concern is this, I am in TX and my Mother is in OK, And she wont have access to the internet to reorder what she needs so I will be contacted unless she can order from over the phone. Is that a possibility?

She dosent drive much nor does she use a USB where she will be vaping. So I wonder what would be the best style for her. I am guessing a PCC will be nice in tandem with a traditional charger that should come with the first kit. but she wont need a car-charger or pass-thru.

I think she wont mind a larger e-cig if it means better battery life.

Also, a style that has a good atty life and cartridge use. A friend uses a Sure-Smoke (which I am sure is just a vendor name of I dont know what model) And she says she washes out the cartridge and lets it dry real good before reuse. I havent seen anyone on youtube or here in a post mention this. I assume cartridges that last a day are cheaper than a pack of cigs so it isnt much of a consideration.??

I am thinking I will be getting a penstyle. Could someone tell me the difference between 510 , 910 , 810 are there these models in all types? or does one manufacturer name his this way and another names his various sizes differently??

Oh so confusing

Pleas feel free to send me a Private message if you know of a shortcut to choosing one of these e-cigs.

Thanx, Jeff

I think there's a few that do phone orders.... I contacted one vendor...we'll see.

The 510 and 901 models are considered 'mini's' 112mm closest to cig size for the more viable ecigs, imo. Superminis aren't worth the hassle of the auto batt, again, imo. The 801 is pen style - even bigger - think 'pen size' :) and has a bigger cartridge - less fillups. The 510 is mainly sold as a manual battery - easy to learn. The 901 and 801 are mainly autos but there are now manual versions - however the manual 801 I had was not a good performer and there have been many reports of the 901 buttons sticking and in some cases falling off. Understand - that forum posts are in many cases for 'complaining' :) so we hear the bad cases more often than the ones that work just fine.

That said... if you read enough here you'll see that many people have gotten off cigarettes the first day they received their 510 even though they may have had other models before that.. or none at all.

Cheapest deal (US) $35 for the 510 kit is cignot.com but they're out of stock. Next is Rocky Mountain Vapors - also out of stock last I checked on a black 510 manual. Freshsmoking has them in stock. Nhaler has some in stock but not in black. widowsbeadworks also has black ones.

For juice, Nhaler is hard to beat - starting with 6ml bottles at $4 one can get a bunch of them to see what one likes best first before buying larger bottles. Drew is a master mixer of juice:

12mg High voltage (extra flavor):
HIGH VOLTAGE SAMPLERS 12Mg 6ml Plastic Dropper Bottles

24mg nicotine:
6 ML Nhale/Xhale Liquid Samplers - 24MG - NHaler

Hi Jeff and welcome to the forum. One supplier I've dealt with is Totally Wicked. They take internet orders and have a toll free number for ordering. Prices can sometimes be beat, but I can vouch for their honesty and quick shipping. I'm very satisfied with them.

Electronic Cigarettes and eLiquid / Totally Wicked eLiquid / Electronic Cigarette eLiquid Store

or 1-888-761-WICKED

btw I'm one of those that got a 510 (from Totally Wicked) and haven't had an analog since the day I got it.

You also might want to think about a kr808d-1 for your mom. It is a 2 piece and really easy to use. You can get her cartomizers that go with it and she can refill them easily. The battery life is better than a 510 and if she leaves home, all she would have to do is carry an extra battery and a couple of cartomizers without having to worry about topping them off, Nhaler, V4L, Cigeasy all have them.

Jeff,

I only own a "510" but from what I've read the Vapor King (KR808d-1) is very popular with the ladies. (please excuse me if I sound sexist)

The Vapor King is only 2 pieces. A battery and a "cartomizer." The battery life is pretty good and the cartomizer is disposable, or can be refilled. This is appealing for users who don't want to refill carts, or play with fluid.

Naturally the disposable aspect means it would likely be more expensive long term. Since you're throwing away 1/2 the cigarette there are fewer parts to fail. Seems like a great option for a lighter smoker.

The PCC for a 510 uses a USB cable to charge. If she doesn't have a computer with USB she'd need to buy an adapter to plug into the wall.

Just about any device will be cheaper to run than cigarettes. Even if you used "cartomizers" and tossed them every time that'd be $2 - $4 a day.

All the vendors I've used seem to be small businesses. They may not have typical phone ordering but I bet if you emailed them someone would be happy to call your mother and take an order. ( I sure would if I was in the biz ) The vendors I've dealt with seem to be motivated by the prospect of helping people more so than getting rich.

So far I like these vendors:

eCigarettes and eLiquid from Awesome Vapor
Cignot your Midwest Electronic Cigarette store.
Rocky Mountain Vapor you have reached the mountain top of electronic cigarettes!

The Vapor King: (have not personally tried)

Vapor4Life:: Because it's your life :: Electronic Cigarettes & Alternatives to Analog Smoking :: Vape-On Baby!

Good luck Jeff. Its kind of you to do all this reading on her behalf. I hope you wind up with a good solution.

WoW, Kent and others are real helpers!!!

I'd suggest getting her a passthrough....you can plug it into a COBY CA 81 wall socket thing with the USB at one end that she can plug the passthrough into. (I think the COBY's are about 2 for $5 on Amazon new and used) She could sit comfortably in her chair and vape anywhere without worrying about the battery dying and having to recharge and switch out batteries.

I have a Janty Stick and LOVE it....

Good luck, you are a GOOD and loving son!!!!! :)

Thanks. And actually the Janty stick is a good idea after rereading the OP's post. A Janty Stick on a usb wall plug using the charging cord would be a good set up. I have an extension cord to my chair and fixed it up the leg of a table by the chair with velcro. :) Plus the Janty stick could be passed off as a 'personal vaporizer' if need be. No battery problem, big cartridge for longer vapes - great vapor for that feedback. Rather cheap for a 'mod'.

WOW!!! Thanks to everyone who took the time to reply!!

I have been considering the Janty stick And was wondering about how to do that without a USB. That may be a good option.

Also, What about the Prodigy??

And who would have the best price on these models. If a J-Stick : Starter kit and USB wall plug converter thing and maybe a couple extra Attys

Prodigy Starter kit with both 901 and 801 atty adapters

No one responded about washing out the cartridges?? The friend who mentioned it has a "Sure-Smoke" (I personally think all makers and brand-names should remove the word smoke from their names and marketing!) and I still havent a clue what model. Seems to be a penstyle maybe 901? Anyway Anyone else washing out their cartridges??

Again, Thanx!

But does the washing increase the life or re-usability of them And Which kind of cartridges can be washed?? I would assume not the disposable cartomizers, unless they can be taken apart.

And thats another Question, Say with the Vaporking, If the cartridges are disposable, Do you still fill them with drfops? And if they are flavored Carts like the BLU, Would it be funky to use flavored drops???

So confused but really intent to make an informed decision!

Thanx, Jeff

You can either refill your cartomizers with the same flavor, or rinse them out (finish with a quick airblow) and refill with the flavor of your choice. Most 2-piece users do this, and a couple guys I know refill them 10 times plus...lol. Saves a lot of cash this way. Personally, I refill mine twice, maybe 3 times before I want a fresh one.

They were made to be disposable, but refilling is an absolute snap.

How old is your mom and how long has she smoked?

If she's over 50, a longtime smoker and not into "gadgets," I think something like the Janty or Prodigy will be a bit foreign and imposing for someone new to PVs.

I would recommend the manual button KR808 or Vapor King with pre-filled cartomizers, for ease of use and transition. The cartomizers are easy to use and come in a lot of pre-filled flavors - more than the other models. Even using them once as disposables will be less expensive than tobacco cigarettes. This style will be more similar to regular cigarettes, more familiar and less imposing/techie-looking and they are pretty dependable. The 510, 901 and 801 have a bit more of a learning curve and while good workhorse models, can be frustrating to newbie, less-techie owners. The Vapor King has a snazzy, designer look and it's owners swear by it and the KR808 version has a basic, less flash look.

You know your mom's "style" and tech level better than any of us. Keep it simple for her and she will have a better transition to vaping.

However, my 62 year old mom and my 58 year old mother-in-law adapted to the 510 pretty easily. Although, my MIL just charges 3 batteries and brings them with her, rather than fuss with the PCC & switching out batteries to charge. My mom is a weekend/casual smoker and my MIL was a pretty light smoker. My MIL was smoking more and more lately and concerned, so vapes more than my mom.

Yep. I have an extension cord velcroed on a table leg by my chair. It's just a matter of pluging in the usb wall plug which stays there, then plugging in the cable to the port. The length of the charging cable is better than most passthroughs - about 5 feet so mobility - pulling the cord out, etc. isn't a problem. No worry about batteries and if she gets up just unplug the cord and take the JS wherever she goes. Frankly with the battery life on the JS you really wouldn't need that hook up but I use it in case I go outside to mow or when in the car, I know my battery is fully charged when I leave.

And as I posted in a recent post, the cartridge is so big you sometimes don't need to carry juice around - you could just put an extra cartridge in the case/pouch and use that if you run out.

Janty USA - JANTY STICK POUCH

Right now only Janty has the JS but dietsmokes also carries it - they are out of stock right now.

Janty USA - JANTY STICK SET
5 left. There were 20 last night.

Janty Stick V2 - dietSMOKES.com

Wall plug:
AC to USB Adapter 1000mA
there's also a car plug there and you could pick up some juice at cignot.com as well. Get some Ecopure Rich 10mg VG for huge vapor. I just add it to any other flavor on refill. Fast shipper.

USB Dual Power Adapter

Also, What about the Prodigy??

I don't have one so I'll let others address that but with mods that can be a 'different' experience - high voltage, etc.

I got my 'blank' cartridges (flat tip/whistle tip) from Johnson Creek. They are costly little things considering they have no juice in them (at least in my opinion)......BUT, they are reusable, over and over.

When you get tired of the polyester filling in them (and you're kinda wondering what might be growing in there), you can stuff them with Fluval--that's water filtration polyester.

I use it simply because there are no chemical additives (something we have to look out for when stuffing our own cartridges).

There are several other fillers out there, but I think the one making its rounds with a growing following is the 'tea bag' filler.

I haven't used tea bag material yet, it suppose to wick better...ask around, the older heads know about them.

Oh yea, when I wash my out (after throwing away the old filler), I use soap...might as well sanitize the mouth piece.

Prodigy Starter kit with both 901 and 801 atty adapters

Jeff

I'm a Prodigy fan but I wouldn't recommend it to a beginner. It's much easier to screw on a new 510 battery than to take off an end cap (don't lose the spring!) switch out two batteries and then get the threads of the end cap started properly.

Plus, the Prod is a beast for throat hit, uses a lot of liquid and doesn't fit very well in the pocket. Many people feel self-concious about using it in public, also. The cigarette-sized ones are more discreet.

901, 401, 510 or the Vapor King are the ones I would suggest. Manual batteries are more reliable than the autos and easy to learn.
