All went well at the Doc appointment....Found out the charity care accepted me...BP was a little high due to the white coat thingy....I had two BP sessions recorded and still at 5mg with no more prescriptions....BP meds will come from Wal Mart from here on out....2 places frozen on my face....Doc said pre-cancerous....Got one of those stool sample things for the colon cancer screening after I declined the colonoscopy....I'll get a colonoscopy but in due time....one invasive procedure at a time please....Doc got me signed up for some lung cancer screening thing the hospital has going on....Gotta smoke for 30 years....I signed up but I'll get out if I don't like what I see...Doc wanted to talk statins...I told her what I'd read and when she saw I knew a little about the numbers she backed off and agreed we'll try diet over statins.....No bacon for the kid......

I hear you on the colonoscopy, LD. The prep is the worst part and far from fun. I have had to have them every 5 years since my paternal grandma died from colon cancer. Then my mom had colon cancer a few years back. Last year they removed 3 polyps from my colon that were precancerous. Now I get the joy of having them every 3 years.

Thing about us that it is very preventable if they find the polyps early. In my moms case she would not have had to deal with cancer if she would have had a colonoscopy just two years sooner. They would have just been removing polyps.

She was having issues for a number of years. The dr that had done her colonoscopy years before the cancer said thAt her colon was so clean at that point she would never need another colonoscopy. That dr really screwed her up.

Were you able to qualify on help with the meds? Or is Walmart just least expensive?

Wal Mart has the meds for $4 a month. There is an app for your phone called Good RX....Finds the lowest prices in your area and has coupons. I've got the info for the UNC Pharmacy Care ready to send in but haven't done so....Cuzzo said Wal Mart was easier to deal with and at $4 a month that's where I'm at until the Pharmacy Care is needed....Hopefully it never is....

After debating the lung cancer deal I'm not so sure I'm gonna do that....Doc said they were really critical about things....Yeah I smoked a damn lot of cigarettes.....Yeah I'll die someday....Let's not worry the Kid to death....

Last thing I'm gonna do anytime soon is drink a gallon of laxative and sheet my brains out....In the last 40 years I went to a Doc when I found out I had Hepatitis C....I went twice to his office....Somehow I scored 60K worth of pills and got cured....Never mind the waiting and watching as a team developed the cure.....Now all this in the last couple of months.... I don't have HepC....my arteries are somewhat clean and I've got full coverage care until September 2020....I'll get the colonoscopy later...I gotta try and get my LDL#s down...If I do fine but if I don't I still won't touch a statin drug....All I've been through the only knock is my LDL #....Not so bad IMO

No Bacon for me either Dee :?:

I got a call from the Cardio this morning, the appointment is now pushed out until the 20th. It's a family emergency, I just hope it's not someone passing.

I'm still stressed about the results, though Mrs Wharf says if it was urgent they would have slid me in!

Way more good news than bad, Dee! Bummer about the bacon, but if you are still using coconut oil, please read some of the most recent info. Seems it is not as healthy as first thought, and can eff up your cholesterol.

I haven't jumped on the Keto bandwagon, either. At the risk of offending a few, my researched opinion is that it may be great for weight loss, but is not sustainable for your health long term. It is very hard on your kidneys, and too much animal fat is bad for your cholesterol. We all know how to eat a sensible diet, it's just harder for some of us (me) to do. Just my opinion, take it or leave it

Wharf, I'm sure Mrs Wharf is right, but I know you can't help but be concerned until you get your results!

Hoping for the best results Wharf !!!

I imposed the bacon ban...sausage as well.....Keto allows fats in the diet....If one is in ketosis fat is what fuels the body....The heart healthy diets I've seen while net surfing are keto based with the fats being replaced with lean meats...Basically no refined carbohydrates or fats....The last couple of months have been stressful....food is the #1 abused item by the stressed....I said the Hell with it and gained a few pounds...Going forward I'll be watching the refined carbs and fats whenever possible...I'm pretty hardcore about it but there's never gonna be perfection....Just do the best you can....

Carotids scheduled for Friday.....Lung screening about ten days past that...After deciding to rest this am the damn phone kept ringing with these appointments and a couple from phone scam artists....This whole lung thing is something UNC has going on with ex-smokers of 30 years plus....a study of some kind....30~40% blockage is said good but still troublesome too me....LDL #s = more trouble.....I'd like to know the condition of my lungs but I'm not really sure I wanna go through with it....

I decided it's finally time to drop some weight.

Other than putting away things with added sugar (or eating large amounts of bread and potatoes), I'll be getting on the Ceylon cinnamon bandwagon. It looks like it may lower triglycerides and LDL, as well as blood sugar levels; there's some variability in study results, but enough actual medical assessments to make it credible (articles like Cinnamon use in type 2 diabetes: an updated systematic review and meta-analysis. - PubMed - NCBI - dreary reading, but as a techie this is the kind of stuff I look for [emoji3])

As to "why Ceylon cinnamon", that's because it has much less coumarin, something I don't need or want.

It looks like the right amount to target is around 2 teaspoons a day total, doable if I add it to my dry cereal and fruit, yogurt, etc. Ceylon cinnamon has a more delicate flavor, more of it can be used than the more common variety. A full teaspoon in a plain yogurt, with a bit of Stevia or a strawberry, is pretty good [emoji3]

    Thanks for mentioning it, Bov!

My pleasure, Mark. It was my research when I was DX'd T2D that lead me to the studies and tech data on ceylon cinnamon, and the differences between it and common cinnamon.

Fran, I used to be so skinny that I couldn't keep weight on!! Then I put down the booze, and on came the weight in my 30's. As Dee said, stress eating is a big problem, and it's what I became used to as my 'comfort' over these last years with the ex, and caring for Katie. And honestly? Much harder for me to let go of than the booze! When I lost Chase, I didn't want booze, I wanted to buy a pack of Marlboro Lights. I didn't, but I bought a diabetic nightmare pie  I'm a carb junkie who keeps falling off the wagon. I'm ashamed to admit that at 5'7", I weigh as much or more as Dee...180. I know how to lose it, and I'm walking 3 miles a day, but kicking that dopamine releasing carb habit is a beech!!

I had my last 8 upper teeth pulled yesterday and now have a top denture. A little sickening thinking about all of the root canals and crowns that I spent good $ on trying to save my teeth. Even a bridge for $3k out of pocket. All gone now.

Bov, I could not imagine anyone in this thread giving you a hard time for stating your opinion. At least I hope not.

Oops. I meant to say this in my last post. I am not able to take nsaids and I am 100% certain that my turmeric made a tremendous difference both times getting teeth pulled in prep for the upper denture. Not much swelling or inflammation at all.

That stuff is great in so many ways for me.

I too have heard that Keto is not recommended for long term. I can tell you from experience though, it seriously takes weight off!
Both my daughter and I have lost the weight that we so desperately wanted to lose. 40 lbs for me and 35 for her. I’m 8 months in and maintaining has been pretty easy; although not for everyone and I completely understand.
I am a picker and my choices were chock full of carbs and sugar. I never would’ve imagined that I could adapt to this way of eating, but I have. Do I cheat now that I’ve reached my goal?....let’s just say that there’s a bag of strawberry twizzlers that hops into my cart almost every week!
The kidney issue is concerning for sure.
A lot of people like paleo too and some switch to that after keto.
I still need to get that Ceylon cinnamon AND turmeric curcumin blend.
I learn so much info here and appreciate all opinions always!

    Fran,
2 of the 3 African violets are doing wonderful in those pots you told us about awhile back! Thank you for the recommendation of them.
Your very welcome. #3 is not doing well?
