Once while loading my boat on the trailer my girlfriend said, "Better watch that snake".....Just about the time it brushed my leg....I landed about three days later...It was a Russian Brown Water Snake carrying a big crappie into the bushes..Non venomous but still....Fekk that sheet right now!!!!!!!!

Russian Browns are often mistaken for Cottonmouths...When swimming a RB's head will be the only thing breaking the surface...A Cottonmouth's whole body will be above the surface...almost floating across the water....

Copperheads we got plenty of...Once when in the shop I heard my old Pit "Chopper" raising cain...I went back too the kennel and found a {rather large at 48'} Copperhead striking through the fence at my dog...So no they're not gonna run and are very aggressive...I went Vietnam on that dang snake...They are the only snake on my kill on sight list...Mom was bitten by a CH below the knuckle on her index finger as she was mulching her flowers years ago...Trust you don't want that too happen...My buddy owned a seafood joint and I had just received a big old fried seafood platter when I heard the ambulance called to ??? Wait that's my address!! They had a scanner in the back room where the employees and associates ate...I hate Copperheads...

I got a big old Dodge now...Once I had a big old Ford...Coming home from the beach I saw what I thought was a limb in the road...I slowed as it was a little bigger than I wanted to hit even with the huge tires...It was an Eastern Diamondback Rattler...I used the truck to block the entire road and got out to watch the snake head off into the woods...I'd guess 8 foot with an enormous head...If only there were smart phones then...ATM I can't call the name of that tract of land that road borders but supposedly it's the largest undevoloped tract east of the Mississippi..

Water Moccasins and cotton mouths are one and the same. We lived on a fresh water lake in Charleston and had both gators and cotton mouth right in our back yard. We co existed with them and I really don't like to kill anything if I don't have to. We did have to kill a few moccasins that got too close to the house though. Once, DH killed one and tossed it in to the water. Within seconds a gator came swimming up and snapped the dead snake right up. The lake that we lived on was quite famous for the gators. Tourists would love to come to the bank and see the gators.

"Both "water moccasin" and "cottonmouth" are common names for Agkistrodon piscivorus, according to Sara Viernum, a herpetologist based in Madison, Wisconsin. "The name 'cottonmouth' comes from the white coloration of the inside of the snake's mouth," she said. Water moccasins are pit vipers, like copperheads and rattlesnakes."

They are indeed venomous.

The best scenario I could think of is the gator eating the snake and the gator dies from poison. That way they're both gone. As far as I'm concerned The Good Lord messed up when he put reptiles on earth.

It's snowing.....guess I will have to go out there and clean out the "trenches" again. Can't wait for spring, when this crap melts and we will have to deal with the flooding. I just love living in New England........not !!!!!

The new snow blower works great for a single stage'r. Did our drive and walk, then did the neighbor's. And man did the temp take a nosedive while I was outside!

Oh, I do want to move to somewhere warm, Bov. If my family hadn't needed my help, I would have probably gone back to Georgia, when I was discharged from the Army. Fate brought me back home and is keeping me here, at least for the time being.

Been busting my azz, came in and laid in the floor with my feet and legs up on the couch to ease my back...and Katie had the nads to ask me what I was going to cook for dinner. You can imagine she was not pleased with my answer

Spring cant come soon enough we have had snow on the ground for 3 full month now. Hit us the second week of Nov. its been a few year since we had snow on the ground for a full 6 month, this maybe the year.

Avoiding the gators was easy, I just made sure the house we bought had no water near it. Rattlers are easy to avoid, but the pigmy rattlers down there have no rattles to warn you, nor do the coral snakes that love to hide under the plants in your garden. I've dispatched my share of both. Luckily for me, the coral snakes have tiny mouths and it's hard for them to get you through a good pair of gloves. You also learn real quick not to go out on the patio barefoot at night if you have mulch near...I've been nailed by scorpions more times than I can count.

Don't matter where you live, there's always something you'll need to be concerned about Tracy, be careful out on the road!!

We'll break out the bikinis tomorrow...all the way up to 38! The -10 Thursday night

I remember when i lived down south in Shreveport La. We would swim in the lakes always looking out for water moccasin. Had always heard that they would not bite underwater. Never did know if this was true. You know we made a lot of noise and would slap the water for a few minute to scare them away. There was always the fear as i think back i guess we where pretty foolish but we had a ton of fun on the lake back in the day.

My dad played in a pick-up band, really just a group of friends that got together and played. Summers on Saturday night a whole group of us would make a fire by the lake and fish for catfish. They would play and drink, the kids would all fish most of the moms stayed home. We all had a blast. Then Sunday the fish fry with the haul of catfish from the night before. Fresh catfish fried up in cornbread umm umm good.

You forgot to mention the Water Moccasin. When I lived in Salt Lake it was the scorpion. Always some little poisonous creepy crawly thing huh?

It's been windy all day...Gonna be below freezing tonight @29* I think is what I heard...

Moccassins may/or not be able to bite underwater...For one to bite me anywhere it's gonna have to be fast....really fast...My lightening like reflexes multiply whenever a snake is present...

Most of my ducks are lined up...Time to take stock of the situation and plan my next move...

Here in a minute I'm gonna investigate the possibility of a twisted coil in my KayFun at around 1.5~1.7 ohms....No idea at the moment if that is even feasible but we'll see...
