Dee, I was tired enough already! After reading your post, I'm exhausted!!
Talked with APS case coordinator today, he's quite optimistic the judge will give conservatorship to them. He's found a nice Memory Care Assisted Living spot for Katie. The place is set up like a small town community, with shops, hair salon, activities, etc. With her income and Long Term Care Insurance, he thinks it's quite affordable for her without having to use much of her savings. The LTCI won't kick in until after the first 100 days, so that will be out of pocket, and the insurance has a 2 year limit. After that, she'll have to spend down her own savings before Medicaid picks up the cost. The main thing is that she'll be in a safe, medically staffed environment that feels like a community instead of a nursing home, and her money will be protected from the ex. He'll have the house, but he'll have to figure out how he's gonna pay the utility bills on his own. And then I can finally get outa here! It's been a long, LONG road!
