I'd be interested in the recipe, thanks!

I've comfortable with statins, though have decided to focus on my weight, reduce carbs , for the next handful of months, see what that does for me. Changing to plain yogurt with the vanilla stevia & cinnamon, a cereal with no sugar and fresh berries, etc., should be steps in the right direction.

Regular exercise isn't an issue for me, I use an exercycle daily, have started using my rower in the morning. Cut the carbs and I should drop weight.

Ok this recipe is very close to what I make. I used to make it in the crock pot but o use my instant pot now. I double recipe because it does keep very well in the fridge.

I add 2 tsp vanilla, chopped walnuts to my doubles recipe. Sometimes I add just a few raisins plus I use fairlife non dairy high protein non fat milk always

Overnight, Slow Cooker, Apple Cinnamon Steel-Cut Oatmeal

Everyone that had tried it loves it and I hope that you do too. It is easy to change this up now and then too.

Oops almost forgot. I always used the keep warm setting on my crock pot to make this and it would be perfect by morning.

Interesting read on the statins, thanks for the link, Salem. My main issue was the muscle pain in my legs when I was on a statin years ago. We changed to a different one that didn't cause me the pain, but my insurance decided not to pay for it anymore. The one I was taking that I did ok on was Crestor, and at the time there was no generic for it. We'll see how my blood work looks.

Thank you for the recipe too :)

Wow Crestor is the one that works the best. The dr put my mom on it years ago. He told her it was the only statin that would still be effective if she could take it even once per week she was not able to because of the muscle pain and ended up on atorvastatin.

The first one that my husband was put on was Crestor. He tried hard to take it but the muscle pain was horrible. He is on Prevastatin now and doing well.

Sometimes exercise and diet just isn’t enough if it is genetic. My husband felt that it was well worth trying until he found one that he could tolerate. After 1.5 years of diet and exercise, his ldl was a whopping 190. Just not worth waiting for a heart attack or stroke to happen for him.

For about ten months Mrs Wharf and I have been using Oat Groats.... Groats are whole grains that include the cereal germ and fiber-rich bran portion of the grain, as well as the endosperm.
We use 1 cup of groats in 3 cups of water and cook it for about an hour. It comes out a little chewy and we like it that way. You can cook them longer and they become softer. I tried the slow cooker overnight and it was too soft for me.
We will add cinnamon and different combinations of blueberries, bananas, raisins and apples. I will add maple syrup.

Y’all are making me hungry! It looks delicious!!! (I peeped and screenshot the recipe)

Sorry, Tracy. Maybe you could make it for the rest of your family? Bo? Then you could at least have a taste of it.

I didn’t mention earlier but you have to use the steel cut oats in that recipe. Regular oats are processed and will not turn out right. It would most likely turn to mush using regular oatmeal. Steel cut oats are simply raw and cut. Not processed so you are getting all of the nutrients.

This stuff is creamy and delicious.

I did avoid it while I was actively losing weight. Now that I am in maintenance I have added it back in to my diet.

Just in from the beach....Had one tree blown down during the hurricane....It's sawed and piled for burning now...did a little limb trimming through the rest of the yard....Few more pine cones had fallen and they are on the bottom of that limb mountain....Moved inside the bedroom and got the sheetrock safely off the walls and into the dumpster across the street....Just about ready to start on the sub-flooring....Tomorrow I need to start the yearlies on the mowers....fresh blades/oil/filters and such....Needing to take the Cub back to the beach when I go to start on the sub-flooring....Just another day......

I didn't have a colonoscopy....The Doc was ready to order one but I'd had past my limit of poking and prodding....She gave me the kit that tests your stool....That was an adventure all in itself....I understand that I still need a colonoscopy and will get one next winter...

I read the statin link until the blah....blah....blah.... can't digest the info set in....Not saying I won't ever take a statin but it ain't gonna be tomorrow either....I was still groggy after the cauterization when I heard a cardiologist say I got my statin info from the TV....Actually it was the computer....Mom was having issues years back and I investigated the situation on my dang computer....Removed statins....changed diet....problem solved....Now I haven't researched statins in years and in no way am I an expert but I ain't taking them either...Doc and Cardiologist on my rear about it every other breath...Side effects of no concern and that concerns me....What further concerns me is Doc doesn't in any way suggest a better diet may help....

I wasn’t at all trying to sway anyone’s opinion on statins. I only posted that link because we had been talking about them here, I always figure that knowledge is power.

Wharf is a prime example that a diet can work to lower ldl and raise hdl. I guess it all depends on what the cause of the issue is as to whether lifestyle changes are enough to make a difference or not.

In my husbands case it is genetic . I have no doubt that statins will be in my future as the cholesterol issues and heart disease runs heavily in my family. In my husbands case it was about sticking with it and trying different ones until he found one without bad side effects. He already has some damage to the right side of his heart and it just wasn’t worth the risk to him.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, everyone here is just chock full of valuable information. I am the sponge (haha) and I appreciate the experiences!

Mark, your package arrived yesterday and I can’t wait to have a cuppa! Smells heavenly. Thank you! :)

Salem, I too am in maintenance for the last several months so I am definitely going to give those oats a whirl at some point! Some mornings I hop on the scale and it’s like 2 lbs under ...aw he’ll no! I struggle a bit with maintenance so those oats could be very helpful. Thank you again my friend!

My aunt called me this weekend and asked if I still have my beauticians license (absolutely) and if I’d be interested in working with her on Tuesday’s at a nursing home. (She hurt her back but can not afford to lose the work or income)
This comes just at the perfect time, as Lauren and fiancée are moving into their own place this week and child support is finished.
Today’s day 1. It’s been at least 25 years since I’ve done a roller set so this should be fun! Get ready Mabel, 908s coming for ya!!! :))
Enjoy your day everyone!
