Write what your opinion is....plain and simple...just take action to have your voice heard!

Yes we as business' want to make money, but we are also stepping up to insure that it will be regulated correctly...and you as consumers should do so as well.....does anyone here feel this is a drug? and should have to wait 5 years before it is available in the US market and then have to have a precription for the next 5 and pay 10x as much? or would you prefer that the industry is regulated differently...but still undergoing safety tests? do you want the money to be made by big pharm or your independant american businessmen?

the point is if you do or you don't you shouldnt let the government make that decision for you!

this is just my food for thought...i just encourage whatever your opinion is FDA or non FDA ...that you should voice it!

Ok sublime, let me put it this way so all the suppliers understand this. If I the user gets cancer or anything else from your product are you going to like being sued by the user? Are you understanding what I am getting at you guys are opening yourself up to huge liabilities, approval is an absolute must, nicotein is a drug and like all drugs is the U.S it should be regulated so we know exactly what we are inhaling. If anyone gets ill or worse there will be massive lawsuits and all the suppliers will then take a big step back and say " I don't make it I only sell it"

This is what I found from: FDA tobacco bill - SourceWatch

Elements
With the exception of menthol, the proposed bill would eliminate the use artificial flavorings in tobacco; require the disclosure of ingredients; allow FDA to require manufacturers recall "defective" cigarette products (that is, cigarettes that, according to the bill, contain "a manufacturing or other defect not ordinarily contained in tobacco products on the market that would cause serious, adverse health consequences or death"); require cigarettes not be "adulterated or misbranded"; require specifically worded warning labels with colors and graphics that take up 30 to 50 percent of the front and back of the pack; prevent the givaway of free samples; regulate advertising and promotion, and other measures. [5]

There are some great "SourceWatch Articles" that I plan to review as well before writing my letter.

Well this sounds like it affects cigarettes, not ecigs. How does this affect us? I'm not good at legalese but that's my take on it.

ok, I'm back with my food and the wall of text I was expecting is missing so I'll make one of my own.

Here's the issue;

We're being told that we're at some sort of cross-roads...there's something big going on and the suppliers that are a part of this forum want us to move and start contacting various government officials and agencies in order to help them keep vaping legal in the United States.

Now...a couple of months ago I made the suggestion that the suppliers should start submitting their liquids to laboratories for testing and then giving the results of those tests to the FDA in order to start closing in on approval and positive regulation...I was, for the most part, shot down and, in minor part, ridiculed for my suggestion.

I still stand by what I said.

I know for a FACT that a lot of the suppliers here are making money hand over fist. Some aren't doing as well as others but...that's another story. I encouraged the suppliers to use some of the money that they've been making to help legitimize the industry and I was pretty much told to screw. Now, some of those same people that slapped me down, back then, are asking for MY help?

The Rob helps those who help themselves.

How am I supposed to take the time out of my VERY busy daily life to write, sign, fold, stuff, address and drop off for certified delivery (not to mention pay postage on) a heap of letters in order to help a bunch of people that aren't even willing to have their products tested so they can get the ball rolling and help legitimize their own business?

Really?

Are we being serious here?

I am inherently distrustful of anyone who sells anything. Why? Because they're sales-people. That being said, there is *1* supplier on here who I trust...fairly implicitly...and another who I am pretty comfortable with. I know that these people aren't out to screw me and one of them even helped get me out of a MAJOR vaping bind at his own peril. The rest of the suppliers here? Don't trust them as far as I could throw a moose up a mountain.

So now there's all this 007 sh.t going on "help us out...we have some stuff going on but we can't tell you about it" and in the end the result will be that we help THEM but they don't really help US.

See...I can order from China, EASILY. Sure it'll take a little longer to get here and sure there's a small chance my shipments will get jacked by customs but I can still get my stuff. The only reason I order from U.S. based suppliers is convenience.

So here's a bunch of people I distrust and have *NO* faith in who are asking me to trust them and have faith and follow a suggestion they're making when a suggestion I made was summarily dismissed as being "too much work" and "unnecessary" (paraphrased).

Yeah...This burrito is really good.

Yes, what I've read so far agrees with that. It seems the regulation would primarily focus on the marketing aspect of cigarettes. I can still remember when Joe Camel was pulled because they thought the advertisements were targeted at our youth.

I don't understand the opposition to fda approval, it makes me feel as if no one believes enough in what they are selling to back it completely.

I think it's more that they don't want to spend the money to take care of business.

Tests have been done in various countries and places that show the vapor to be relatively harmless - LOTS less harmful than tobacco smoke and with no known carcinogens - but those tests need to be conducted by agencies or individuals which are known to the FDA and carry some credibility. That's going to cost a few pennies and it seems the suppliers don't want to go out on a limb with the investment.

Instead, we're being asked to grab our torches and pitchforks.

She makes a very valid point. Via for FDA regulation or Self Regulation. Letting others know about the benefits of Vaping is the big thing.

If all of this is banned how can you be sure you can get your stuff from China. If the door is closed on all of it, then what?

I hear what you're saying and you make a lot of good points, but this does concern a lot of people. I hope we're not looking at the end of our vaping world. Only good thing is the FDA are usually quite slow about doing anything. Let's hope they keep up their legendary snailspace.

e-cigs have been around for a long time, Joe...The FDA has been watching them for a while, they're only just now being vocal about them because of the explosion in the US. They do work very slowly but they've had plenty of time to take aim.

Also, I don't know 100% that I can get my stuff from China but I do have a buddy in Shanghai that will certainly hook me up if I ask.

The main problem I have here is that the suppliers act like they have something up their sleeve but they're not willing to share with the class. I've never done well with people keeping secrets.

If you go to the link FDA tobacco bill - SourceWatch you will see Philip Morris is suppose to be a part of it because of their campaign for tobacco free kids.

IdahoJo I think we can break it down to taking liberties or perhaps the wording has been changed.
FDA to require manufacturers recall "defective" cigarette products (that is, cigarettes that, according to the bill, contain "a manufacturing or other defect not ordinarily contained in tobacco products on the market that would cause serious, adverse health consequences or death");
We know that nicotine is considered unsafe and well like many things can be toxic if abused and they did market the product as an e-cigarette.

require cigarettes not be "adulterated or misbranded"; require specifically worded warning labels with colors and graphics that take up 30 to 50 percent of the front and back of the pack; prevent the givaway of free samples; regulate advertising and promotion, and other measures. [5]
There has been much discussion to claims of the e-cig being healthier and claims that it is a stop smoking cessation device which has yet to be proven but still used to sell the device. There are no warning labels that come with anything. They are on the websites.

While those of us who are on this board know whats up and the risks I doubt kiosks like Smoking Everyone give all the facts.

We are using a device that imitates cigarettes and I think that is what the bill and FDA will use if passed.

Umm...Terraphon you just wrote a wonderful argument here in the forum. Can't you find the time to send an email? Would it help if we put together a list of addresses and emails?
And we are writing because we want to be legal and not considered some drug user to be arrested for vaping in our own home.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed at some of the defeatist attitudes. Do you not vote because you think your one vote doesn't count? Even if you don't believe in the system (which always starts with letters btw), there's no need to take the role of the bubble burster. ie, if it doesn't help anything then it certainly isn't going to hurt anything either is it? Very few things happen at the snap of a finger - it usually requires the patience of going through a process.

The bottom line is that the e-cig needs to go through the system so it can be properly categorized. Since nicotine is a drug, there are legal steps that must be taken in order to sell it. In the US, those steps currently can't be taken because the e-cig/e-liquid has no classification as a medical NRT device. I feel it was/is the false advertisement of the bigger companies, claiming that it is an NRT device that has created this mess.
