Ah - I've done that too. Deformed my coil by pulling the leg down.
I think I just "eyeballed it" and got close enough - but there is a "trick" measuring the leg length against the little provided wrench, but I don't know what it is - someone? Anyone?

I can't get it in the hole correctly. Then I did - but I had inadvertently mangled my coil in the process. Ripped it out, built new, started over, did it again. lol. How long does the wire need to be to go into the hole? My 3rd try I cut it too short.

Pdib's basic build to have the coil in line with the AFC slots. You can vary down leg length to raise or lower coil more than this length will allow if wanted. I generally find it easier to put the preformed positive leg(s) in before the negative down leg, then tighten them.

Here's the easiest way to mount a simple coil, given the wire captures being at 90° to each other. I always cut the leg going into the deck at about 8mm (5/16"). Maybe start there, bottom it out in the hole and cinch it. This establishes a pretty good coil height. There's time to figure out whether longer or shorter is better for you. When wrapping the coil, I end up with the legs at 90° to each other, and give the positive leg a little bend. Please see in video ↓.

There's plenty of other ways to skin this cat. I've done it a bunch of different ways.

What I do is Bend the leg that goes into the center post while its still on the needle that I use to put the coil in place. While pressing the coil against the side of the needle I put my finger in between both legs and push the center post leg up with my finger.

I cut the wire that goes into to the bottom of the deck a little shorter then the short arm of the allen key that comes with the nuppin. I line the allen key up with the leg and snip the wire, just a hair shorter then the short arm of the allen key.

Super X Drifter has a video on this, this is where I got the idea from on how long or short to cut the leg for the bottom deck. The guy rocks on the tutorials for builds.

Around the 9 1/2 minute mark is where he talks about the short leg.

I do it pretty much the way pdib does. I cut the negative leg about 8mm, put a 90 degree bend in the positive leg, put negative leg in the hole in the deck, and roll the coil into place, putting the positive leg through the hole in the post. It's really pretty easy, once you get the hang of it.

Thanks everyone! Gonna have to try it again later when I have time. My build came out ok - but when I fired it, one leg glows like there's no tomorrow and then everything else lights up a few seconds later. That one ain't gonna work! :)
Might still be salvageable. Pulse fire it and rub the mandrel/needle/pin through the coil between fires (removing it before firing). I've had coils that started out as all leg heat settle down to what I needed.

And remember the metal mandrel acts like a heatsink and will cool rhe coil you just touched.. so when you go to fire thst coil will take a little longer to heat up compared to the other coil that's warmer. So best to blow on them after using the mandrel to make them both equal tempt before firing it again.

Interesting more people don't tailpipe the Nuppin'... Its the only way I roll anymore. I have both mine setup in the .25Ω range with the AFC wide open and they rarely get warm.

My 6 Nuppin's did wear 6 Routers..... now 5 of them wear Syner's, the 6th will as well.
