Articles like this one don't help.

Nicotine may damage arteries
Other chemicals in cigarettes may not be to blame

"NEW ORLEANS — Even smokeless cigarettes may cause damage that can lead to hardening of the arteries, a new study implies."

This article AS DO MOST OTHERS refer to NICOTINE! They repeatedly ignore the fact that NICOTINE LEVEL can be DECREASED over time to a level of ZERO. Will ALL of us reduce to ZERO? No ..... yet MANY have this as their PRIMARY GOAL!

Old Senile Don ........ Headed to ZERO NICOTINE one SLOW step at a time.

I'm just gonna say that anything can be bad for you. Everything that is ingested or consumed will generally have some ill effect when studied in a highly specialized manner. Most every chemical on earth has an LD 30/50 rating (for those who are unfamiliar, this is the dose that will kill 50% of the exposed population in 30 days). What happened to us as individuals being able to decide how to degrade our bodies?

To my knowledge nicotine is nicotine, derived from a tobacco or potato or tomato plant or synthetically created in a laboratory.
I don't have an argument with that but I would like to know why they went to all of the trouble and expense of extracting it from tobacco smoke. As we all know nicotine is easily available.

They did some research and added to our knowledge on the cellular pathways of nicotine. I am trying to get a handle of how this relates to what actually happens in the body and under what conditions. For instance other research has suggested that nicotine needs higher than normal levels of CO and CO2 to do any significant damage.
