If Obama wants to continue to smoke, he'll smoke, albeit discreetly. And if he decides to quit, he can assemble the best team the world has to offer to help him. But I doubt that the matter of e-cigs would be a matter of serious consideration to him.

John F. Kennedy conceived and signed the executive order invoking the "Trading with the Enemy Act" against Castro's Cuba. But do you think he stopped smoking Cuban cigars after the embargo?

He had a friend - the British Ambassador in fact - bring them to him in a diplomatic bag...

Actually, JFK secured a Large Humidor full of Cuban Cigars in the White House, Pierre Salinger was sent out just prior to the embargo going into effect to secure them, his favorite Cuban was 1200 H. Upmann Petit Corona cigars..... though JFK actualy preferred Cigars from the Philipines......

Another Historical footnote, JFK wanted to exclude Cigars from the embargo, but the Tampa Cigar lobby would have no part of it, they wanted to get that slice of the market, and they did.......

Actually, we are both right. Salinger did just that. But as I said, he continued to receive Cubans after the embargo.

From "Cigars & Che & JFK" by Richard Goodwin:

At first the order did not prevent individual travelers from bringing in cigars, but protests from cigar makers in Miami--one of the first displays of political muscle by the now omnipotent Cuban refugees--closed this loophole. Still, for several weeks Kennedy continued to serve Cuban cigars at small White House dinners, until the possibility that they had been purchased prior to the embargo lost its credibility. However, staff and guests were the only sufferers, since Kennedy himself had a continuing supply imported in the diplomatic bag of his friend, British Ambassador David Ormsby Gore. It didn't seem fair. But as JFK would teach the nation, "Life is unfair."

The President of the United States would not touch this with a 10 foot pole. this would be political suicide. I can see the headlines now. The President of the United States supports Chinese product. (e-cigarette's)
President Obama promotes e-cigarette's to help boost Chinese economy.

Definitely political suicide.

Damn, you guys have made me want a cigar.

Definitely political suicide.

I really dont think so. Obama has so much political clout that supporting e-cigs a Chinese product wont hurt him. However, he wont for a number of reasons. Mainly, that he has bigger fish to fry than play with some Chinese smoking gizmo. Also pissing off the anti smoking lobbies and undermining his tax hikes on cigarettes...

If we could get Colbert to talk with the ECA, and smoke and e-cig... we would be in like flynn

We all need to start emailing and writting letters to Steve Colbert. If the ECA could make their case on his show it would be the equivelent of a multimillion dollar advertising campaign. Probably the only way of coming close to competing with lobbist $$ and fighting media bias.

That would get some media attention, but the Colbert Report is more political backstabbing than anything else...all the issues are brought up to ridicule and poke fun at the establishment.

Not that I'd love to see it, but having him poke fun at the FDA or Congress isn't exactly make them more receptive to our requests....
