I see a lot of questions on here about what tank/clearo/carto/etc is best. Being a new vape aficionado (5 weeks now), I went and bought several different styles of juice delivery in my quest to find my happy place. I have evods, protank2, iclear30 and a UDCT carto tank. I've found that they all fill a role, but none works 100% well for everything so far in my opinion.

I vape 50/50 juice at the moment, although I plan to order some higher VG shortly as I think I may have a mild sensitivity to PG, so this may change my observations and opinions once I try it. My PV is an MVP2 and I also use some non-VV egos when I don't want to lug the big guy around.

I prefer the evod for light/fruity/menthol juices or simple flavors, however, more complex flavors don't really come through. My biggest problem with these is if I take them off the ego, I have to adjust the head or it won't make contact on the MVP.

I like the iclear for bakery flavors(banana nut bread, etc) since the warm vapor just feels right with them, but ruins lighter flavors. I'll probably stop using this once the head dies since they are a bit pricey and look nearly impossible to try to rebuild, plus it goes through juice like crazy.

I like the carto tank for tobacco/darker/fuller flavors like hazelnut or coffee. I can't use it at all with lighter flavors, all I can taste is the filler material. I need to try different cartos (especially the fillerless type) because I really like this tank otherwise. I've also started getting a bit of flooding with my current carto (smoktech 2 hole dual coil 2.0 ohm) out of nowhere. Used it most of the day yesterday, then late afternoon it just started flooding like crazy. It's never done that before...

I picked up the Protank 2 on a whim yesterday after the carto flooding debacle. So far, I'm not impressed. I had assumed it would be similar to the evod since they use the same heads, but I'm getting very muted flavor and a TON of burnt hits. I rewicked a head with cotton last night and that was much, much better, good taste/vapor production. Got up this morning; first hit, burned cotton taste. Put a brand new factory head (2.3 ohm) in, muted flavor was back and the burned taste returned within 10 minutes. I'm pretty sure it's a wicking problem. I'm frustrated with it at the moment, but hoping I can fiddle with it a bit and get it running well. Wondering if blocking some airflow would increase the juice draw and help stop the burnt hits. Any other suggestions?

I've had no problems with anything but the protank running at any wattage my MVP2 supports, but at anything over 7w, the protank instantly tastes burnt regardless of the juice in it. I really want to like it, but I'm kind of wishing I'd bought an RBA instead...

I feel the same way. I want to get some good carto tanks to go in my collection. Also for reviewing purposes I would like to be able to have a recommended system for each juice. I also think it depends on device too Mech effect tanks a bit differently then my MVP 2. It's all relative. Good observation.

Try rebuilding the Protanks coils yourself and see if that helps. If it doesn't, at least it allows you a chance to practice your coiling skills :)

Then you can try a dripper or RBA.

That's next on my list. I just cashed in a couple months of Bing rewards points for Amazon credit and ordered some 28 and 30 ga kanthal to get started.

Also, just put the protank on an ego so I wouldn't lose the beauty ring on my cluttered desk and grabbed it for a vape; no burnt taste. Put it back on the MVP, burnt taste @ 6w... I wonder if it just isn't playing nice (shorting at the contact maybe?) with the MVP somehow...

Well, the MVP will push out more power, since it's a more powerful battery. Just adjust downward for the MVP, or use the voltage control.

Always adjust for taste, not for ohms.

That's what I'm doing. 6w is the lowest setting on the MVP. Switched it to VV mode and 3.3v (also lowest setting) gets a burnt taste as well.

I've never had any luck with the Protank. I can't speak for the Protank 2, because I was so turned off by the first one, that I just don't think I want to spend my money on that. I've heard lots of meh reviews on it too, so I stay away!
That said, I have enjoyed the evod, which is somewhat similar, so who knows?
My line of thinking right now, is to have a diversified portfolio of different systems. Nova's, UDCT, Evod, Mega Carts, drip atty's, etc.
Next on my list is a rebuildable, but for now, I'm enjoying switching up the different tanks or heads, just to keep things interesting. I'm finding that doing that has made things not get stale.
My favorite right now is the UDCT with the poly-fill free atomizer/cart. No muss, no fuss, and just tastes good!

I agree that there are problems with all the tanks/toppers you mentioned when it comes to thicker, darker juices. (I have a 50/50 coffee juice in particular that really didn't work in anything after the first few hits.) For me the only thing that has worked for those juices is dripping into a rebuildable dripping atomizer like a Trident, built with a micro coil and cotton. One thing I would suggest is to get a carto tank with single coil, two-hole, laser punched cartos - might be your answer if you don't want to dive into rebuildables.

I'm going to order a rebuildable soon, probably a dripper to use at home. Use the others when I'm out and about. I have a 2 hole single coil cart, but it's 1.3 ohm and I just don't like the way it vapes. I'm planning to order a bunch of different carts to try, including fillerless. I really do like the tank, just need to get past the filler flavor and find the right type for the juices I like.

Got my protank2 working better last night. Grabbed another new factory head, cleaned the heck out of all the threading on the tank and MVP to make sure there wasn't any gunk causing a short/bad connection, loaded it up and have not had a burnt hit yet. Flavor is still muted, but I'll re wick with cotton this weekend. Wondering if I didn't just have a couple bad heads... I'll re-coil them once my wire comes in and see if there's still an issue.

I recently got one of these Aspire Vivi Nova BDC Tank

I absolutely love this thing. Good flavor and no wicking issues with my 50/50 juices. It is a dual coil even though it is a bottom coil so the vaper is nicely warm. I am on my 4th tank and no sign of leaking yet.

This thing is the closest I have found to a carto tank without the carto :)

Now if flavor is your thing I have to honestly say dripping is where it is at.
