The only negative reaction I have received so far is from two good friends who were both former smokers and quit cold turkey.

I pulled my 510 out to see if I could use it comfortably in a new place..got my head ripped off by former smokers instead. They laid into me about how I should just quit cold turkey, blah blah blah..let's see last time I quit cold turkey was a year ago..look where I am now..perhaps what worked for them doesn't work for everyone.

I tried to explain what it was, how it worked, that I could slowly lower the nicotine levels until I broke my addiction..no go.

Instead found a way to get "distracted" and ran out of the conversation..not worth the trouble..lol

Non-smokers have been very nice about it and interested. And as for current smokers I talk to about it..I've got maybe 5-10 interested in this site and getting an e-cig..especially when they heard the cost difference over the long haul.

Gonna be fun talking to those former smokers every week and trying to show them how biased they are being. :)

I doubt they like to see you enjoying nic in any way when they cannot. Ex drinkers can be the same way. They are truly bothered by people who can enjoy a few without wrecking their lives. They will somehow insist that you will destroy your life by drinking no matter how responsible about it you are. I think it might actually be emotionaly painful for these types of people to see people enjoying something when they can't.

There is nothing worse than a 'former smoker' when it comes to ANYTHING smoking-related. They need to demonize the behavior, no, the very EXISTENCE of tobacco and/or nicotine to justify their denial of their continued cravings for the substance.

They, hands down, make the most virulent of the antis.

Living here in Florida, I get to play a lot of golf, play with a small ladies group, thus you ride with another player, when I smoked regular butts, I tried not to smoke in the cart if the other player was a non-smoker, which got to be a pain, thus I would only smoke between nines. Since I started vaping, this one lady I ride with more often, asked me if I had the e-cigarette with me yesterday, I of course did, but wasn't vaping, thought she might have a negative comment, not so, she asked what flavor, seems she remembered the last time I was out I was vapinbg Candy Apple, she liked the smell, so I got the vaper out and this time I had capp, moch and frappy in it. She loved that smell, even held it while I went to hit my shot. The rest of the group, which again don't smoke, just goes along with anything I do, even when I smoked analogs. Guess I am lucky...huh!

My husband quit cigarettes years ago, well before I met him. He says that the only way that worked for him was to make himself hate them. Apparently, he was very successful at that because for the 18 years of our relationship, he ranted against them at every opportunity, even strategically placing NO SMOKING signs around the house. :D So I agree with your theory of demonizing them. But unlike some former smokers I've run into recently, he is so happy that I no longer smoke that he's been nothing but encouraging about my vaping.

You should just tell them that it's a cheaper alternative to smoking, and that you feel better while using it.

I liked smoking, and I really didn't want to quit. I don't tell people that I'm using it too quit.

Unless you really plan on quitting vapping soon. Don't say that is what you are using it for.

Excellent answer!
