so no 357's releasing today i take it?

Pending hurricane has shifted a few priority's, I might put them up tomorrow night. We are sure to have power outages, I hope that is the least of my worries but with no power there is no shipping. Could be delayed until Tues or Wed. depending on how bad it gets.

Wish me luck!!

Cisco..

i got some better pics

Hmmm, wow, thats interesting to see, however we haven't run into this while taking other hh357s apart.. I would be very interested in getting back this atomizer and possibly contacting my previous supplier of wool.. We have, however, changed suppliers since earlier runs.

Sean, do you have any further information on this? What are the specifics on the steel wool? If the steel wool is rusting or somehow burning w/ sufficient oxygen that could be a pretty, umm, bad thing. Have you taken any of your HH line and subjected them to a quick flow of water and then a corrosion testing kit used in plumbing applications? -Magnus

that atty on the pics I soaked it on PGA for a more than 24 hours. and than i let it dry for another day. Maybe it wouldn't have happened if i had kept it wet?
I dont wanna cause any chaos. I love the hh.357 and I really wish the best to Hanna, wife, Sean and whoever is part of it but I was hoping for more clarifications on this issue.
Thank you, Magnus for always being available with your knowledge and expertise when it comes to safety concerns. This community is lucky for having people like you around!! :)

Well, PG and high PG solutions are more corrosive than water alone. It not only could have caused the accelerated rust but aggravated it by the better solvent properties exposing more fresh surface area to corrode. I'd still like to know what they're using specifically and what their own experience has been. -Magnus

EDIT: You can mitigate the risk I think. With a really low-carbon high-grade SS wool if available.

CHEMISTRY : C (Carbon) 0.12% max. ; Si (Silicon) 1.0% max. ; Mn (Manganese) 1.0% max. ; S (Sulfur) 0.03% max. ;P (Phosphorous) 0.04% max. ; Cr (Chromium) 16.0 - 18.0% max. ; Mo (Molybdenum) 1.25% max.; Fe (Iron) remainder

is that low enough?

I was thinking lower, like L grade (0.03%) or not too much higher.. I'd have to break out some books and take it into closer consideration. That's actually a big difference, the whole range is something like 0.03 to 0.15 IIRC. Lets see what the HH crew says about the situation. This can get expensive and hard to source so they might have a completely different perspective on it. -Magnus

misterD, I'm thinking they must've resolved this... I looked into it more from data available for air handlers in HVAC and other applications. I'm leaning toward a defective batch of steel wool or something barring no other explanation from the HH crew. And the soak just aggravated it.

Otherwise, based on some reading, if it really was ~prone~ to this problem.. we'd see a lot more of it. And just for kicks, I took a sealed post 1.5ohm HH I got from a trade and brutalized it. It's now soaking in an PG and IPA which, if there is a systematic issue should replicate your problem by tonight. That's my thinking at leas... while the experts are dealing with Irene. -Magnus

Sorry we be been busy supplying for the storm so we can still work just incase power goes out, we've looked at all the attys that weve been using and have seen no signs of rust on anything at all. We haven't let them sit dry so maybe I will try that and see what happens (although I strongly don't recommend doing this ever). I know for a fact that this is not an issue with the new material tho.
