I got to practice my plumbing skills on the garbage disposal finally today...
Most of it actually went pretty smoothly once I got the plastic nuts loosened that someone had way overtightened. First I had to pick up a 12" channel locks since the one I had was too small to get a grip with ( these didn't have the tabs on them like some do ). I just had to take that part slow so I didn't chew up the existing nuts. I probably spent twice the amount of time than it should have taken had they just tightened the nuts enough.
Where I had trouble was with the new style "ez mount" system. Basically the instructions didn't explain it very well. The bottom of the sink flange has a groove in it and the thick rubber gasket that goes on the bottom does also. So it appeared that the groove in the gasket should fit into the groove in the sink flange... but that's wrong. That groove on the gasket only mates to the bottom of the sink flange. Doing it the way I thought it went ( ie the wrong way ), the part that you are suppose to rotate to tighten the disposal onto the flange wouldn't engage far enough. I probably fought that for an hour ( at least it seemed that long ). I finally searched on youtube and found a video... something I should have started with since I finished it in less than 5-10 minutes after I figured out the right way.
In the end, the ez mount is a little easier... but the older 3 bolt method isn't all that hard either so I'm not sure much was gained.
