DiscountVapers & The Go-Go (A Not-Quite Newbie Comment/Review
First, a bit of background on who's scribblin' this thing...
December 23, 2011: the day I began vaping. After almost 40 years of 30 analogs a day, I dropped to 5 within 48 hours. I'm still at that level right now but will be slowly cutting back over the spring for I'm not the kind of person that can handle abrupt changes.
But hey,
1/6th of what I used to analog is still pretty good.
In fact, I never dreamed I could do such a thing
Being a DIY kind of guy and someone who tends to research stuff (sometimes too much), it took me a while to make certain decisions - from to vape-or-not-to-vape to what to get.
I read posts and such here at ECF before joining and launched my first posting a couple of weeks or so before I finally decided to go for the
Go-Go (you can see that thread at
Confused Older Guy Pall Mall Red Kings Budget: Social Security/Disability Income).
Said research told me that the 510 class e-cig was probably best for me, for I fortunately got over the "
It's gotta look and feel like a 'real' cigarette..." newbie thing due to the informative articles and many postings here at ECF.
How I ended up talking to Eric at DiscountVapers is lost in the mist of memory, but I felt I could trust this guy after I saw his intro video at his site. One of the core concerns as a newbie was the trust factor -- dishonesty and hype creeps into any new industry.
As he has proven since then, like most legit vendors, one of the prime or core motivations is not money as much as it is a
sincere desire to help others get-off-the-nasties (analogs). He has gone way out of his way to do that in how he has conducted himself towards me even after a shipping/product glitch.
The reason I went for the Go-Go was simple: battery power.
It's technically not a 510 and that is made clear at the product site, but to me it's a next-generation version due to the double muscle (though not double-coil) of the batter which is
1350 mAh compared to the standard 650. Dual coil technology isn't something I feel I need at this point.
The Go-Go doesn't have a tip LED, the button lights up. It's perhaps not as sexy as some others such as the eGo with LED displays and so on, but it feels solid and holds charge very well. I even inadvertently dropped and swiftly retrieved my Go-Go from a dishpan of water and dirty dishes in the kitchen. Not recommended, but it kept on vaping

)
It's easy for both newbies and non-newbies to get sucked into the gee-wizz factor (especially for sort of nerdy/techie guys like me), but in the end, I'm for practical and solid over bells-and-whistles. I can tell when I'm either getting low on e-juice or electrical charge, I don't need some cute gizmo for that.
Now, was this the most discounted or lowest price kit on the market?
No, but still competitive.
Again, I was looking for something reliable and fretting over a couple of bucks was not worth it. That first kit can be a milestone entering this "new life". I've made the right decision for me.

Now, I also find DiscountVaper's
e-juice prices very competitive. One 45 ml. bottle has lasted me about 3 weeks - which comes down to about USD $4.00 per week.
I was spending USD $5.78 per day on analogs. You do the math
Nice understated but friendly/colorful bottle labels too (I'm a retired graphic designer, so I notice stuff like that).
Is their selection one that goes on for miles and miles?
No, but it's a decent collection and again, I'm more interested in quality than quantity when it comes to stock. His juice types and names are mainstream, they're not meant to be a Grateful Dead discography - lol.
Will costs fluctuate and shift as I settle in to find my one or two favorite flavors? Of course. I'm going to go DIY on juices probably by this late spring or summer also, so up front expenses will occur. And life is imperfect: poop happens, some juices get mis-mixed, hardware will need to be replaced, etc.
But overall, I KNOW I'm going not only keep saving my lungs and health, DiscountVapers has been a great introduction for this now not-quite-newbie-anymore to save substantial money in the long run, FDA/market/regulations stuff willing.
Last but not least, I'm not going hustle any newbie reading this to go to DiscountVapers for I've always been a bit leery of recommendations like that.
I'll just let the above speak for itself and wish anyone and everyone the best, whatever one's choices of hardware and juices. I'm just glad for the choices I've made so far.
