We put my dog Star and cat Nimh down today Star started having multiple seizures a day again so it was time and poor Nimh has battled horrible allergies going into upper respiratory infections since we got her in 09 and got sick again so we called it quits this time and buried them together at the base of an oak tree. My poor husband had to do it because I just kept putting Star off and never could get the gumption to do it... I was able to put my dog Missy down but Star is so special she was my baby girl... I took care of her at the kennel when she was brought to it with her mother and litter at 4 weeks old and took her home with me when she was 8 weeks old and she was over 14.5 years old. She was my pet training demo dog and ferocious protector! She grabbed my ex by his nose when he was tickling me and had me pinned on the ground... She would've easily given her life for me and today I had to take hers.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Oh Ree, so sorry to hear about this...sounds like it was time though, as you said. I know when I had to put Tabbytha down a few months ago it wasn't easy, and I didn't have her near as long, but I could no longer let her suffer. You did a great thing for them, and I believe that they thank you for that. :)

Interesting that you put in the Rainbow Bridge poem...it was included in the package with both my cats after I had them cremated, in a frame, and a bookmark. Love it! :)

Sonicdsl yes I was introduced to the Rainbow Bridge back in 1998 and still cry every time I read it! It gives me comfort knowing that I'll be reunited with my pets someday. They aren't just pets to me though they're family. And Star was the daughter I never had she and my son even used to fight over who got to sit in the front seat until I made her get in the back lol. I've sent them both to their corners simultaneously and everything lol.

I can see my self back at full strength by Jan. Oh on a side note, applied for a managers position yesterday, off to the dark side.

Yeah that's what my husband has but he also has a knob on the steering wheel too and the breaking mechanism goes off to the right but the handle is on the left and he has the option to lock it out too so I can still drive his FJ Cruiser

Oh Ree, Sounds like Sunday will be a lovely morning to stay warm and snuggled under the covers listening to rain tapping on the roof and windows! Then take a nice, slow morning stretch over to the coffee maker, wrap your hands around a steaming cuppa joe (sugar and cream to taste!), wrap yourself up in a cozy blanket on the couch and enjoy the Sunday paper.

Oh, how I love the rain!!! If you're really in luck, maybe you can round up some real logs and burn a wood fire. The best smell in the world on a chilly, wet day.

When we get lucky enough to have a real, rainy day, I like to make homemade chicken noodle soup in the crock pot, so the whole house smells yummy. Then the girls and I bake up those Pillsbury crescent rolls to go with it. Later on, the kids like to make 'real' hot cocoa (what they call the kind with Hershey's cocoa powder, hot whole milk and granulated sugar--oh, and mini marshmallows or whipped cream from a can! They think homemade whipped cream isn't real 'cause it doesn't come out of a pressurized canister!)

Anyhow, enjoy your day, relax, stay warm, dry and cozy!

    God Bless!
