I'm sure that living downstate is much easier to take. I lived in central NJ when I was a teen and the winters there were not bad at all. Some of the winters I experienced in Syracuse were probably similar to your Lake Michigan experience. :D
I've visited Syracuse and Potsdam in the winter, and I would say Syracuse was the closest but tolerable. I don't see anything wrong with 4 and a half feet of snow, but the wind will chill you thoroughly:D I would whine constantly if I lived in Tampa, though...waaaay to warm for my blood :)

I do like winter in NY, I do live downstate, and who knows...we might be related :). The only winter I didn't much care for is the month of December I spent on the shore of Lake Michigan, which was too extreme even for me.

I'll be weird with you, Stone. I much prefer fall and winter...spring is nice, but I don't like the heat of summer.

It's nice to know I am in good company:) It seems that I am normally surrounded by summer beach people. ECF is so much better than RL sometimes...

I live in San Francisco, and any weather that raiser temperatures beyond 65 is way too hot for me. I like fall here. It's foggy, windy (not too cold, though), and light rain sometimes. Perfect weather for me.
Sounds like a great place to visit...I still haven't made it out to San Fran, though I'm sure I will one day.

Yes, just don't visit during October or the summer moths as it can get up to 80.

I want to visit NY because I have lots of friends there, but I haven't seen them in a decade or more.

NY is a good place to visit, I think. For most people 3 days to a week is enough before they want to leave. It's pricey here, but not more so than San Fran so that part should make you feel at home :)

No way in the summer. Maybe in the winter. I used to live in Los Angeles, and sort of got tired of the 50 to 60 in the winter, and 90 to 100+ in the summer. I like my winters to fall below 50 sometimes. :)
