peraspera,

I wonder if what you are seeing in the form of color change is really carbon (there just isn't that much carbon in Ni200) but most metals tend to change color when heated. This is even done with some metals to give it a unique look.

Also if it was some oxides of some type you would definitely see it on the paper towel. :2c:

Whatever is on the surface is matte, not shiny, and for sure does not wipe off. I was just guessing that it is carbon as the data sheet indicates carbon will leach out with high temps. The only thing health-wise that even comes to mind is that the matte surface might not be as chemically resistant as the shiny one but I haven't a clue if that would be true.

From a build perspective the matte stuff might have some impact if someone is doing touching coils with some parts ending up shiny and others matte. Might it cause the coils to short unevenly to one another causing the DNA40 chip to have a snit fit??? Haven't a clue about that either.

Side note: got my Taifun gt 2. With the bigger airflow, I finally have a good vape off a taifun series atty [emoji51]

Nice. Authentic? I was looking for one a couple weeks ago but came up empty and got an aqua v2 instead. Love it.

contact coils are so 2014

(you knew I was gonna say it)

I was going to ignore this, having installed a Kuro Coil, 8 wraps, 28g, 0.14, coil on the Lemo Drop (love it!) last night, holding firm throughout today, 8 hours.

But, I just took delivery of another Kayfun 4. Noticing a coil I also wrapped last night: 0.17. Slapped on to the K4 deck, measured on the him reader (0.18), filled, and vaped. Whether this last will hold up as its younger brother is yet to be seen.

What is remarkable is that I can get a lower temperature and higher wattage before hitting TP. 18 watts, (hits) 270F, 7 second pull...no TP. 26 watts, (hits) 280F, 8 second pull...no TP. 30watts, (hits) 277, 8 second pull...no TP. 35 watts, (hits) 390, 7 second pull...no TP. 40 watts, (hits) 390, very, very long pull...no TP. K4 did get pretty hot. :)

In all cases VF temperature setting was at 390F.

ETA: The VS doesn't do as well. Requires higher temperature setting (F),but can handle higher wattage.

Nope clone! Hehehe. It didn't offer anything more than the first version, apart from bigger airflow and glass (which I don't care for since I don't vape tank crackers and im clumsy as hell). Wanted to see if it was worth getting the authentic. Guess not unfortunately. Airflow is sufficient to give a great vape with ni200, but still too tight for my liking. The clone is a fantastic quality clone tho!

I've also decided to stick to single coil atties for my Ni200. Too much grief trying to get duals to work well (for me), plus the need for a gabillion wraps.

I do have 3 Aqua v2 tho! 2 authentics and 1 clone. Phenomenal vape off that sucker. Airflow is a little lacking tho

It's not a matter of "if", but "when"! :)

Sooner or later they will throw a wrench in the works

Well has your Dremel been to the air intake, I can't tell from the picture. A good clone and an original are a pretty good match but I'm a bit hesitant to slot out an original.

I attempted to, but didn't achieve what I was trying to. I ended up breaking 2 of those grinding tips and wore one out :(

Not with a diamond dust bit but with two discs mounted on the arbor. 2 minutes tops on the cutting part of the job.

I'm apparently one of the rare ones ... I have an original (worth money?) DNA40 that is glitch free, the HCigar DNA40 (glitch free, with some wiring fixes), and a new Vapor Flask (two weeks old) ... no problems with any of them, ever. I have had some atty connection issues that caused some weirdness, but was able to fix all of those by solidifying the connections.

Have you considered buying some lottery tickets? You sound like your pretty lucky.
