Good Mornin' Fellow Volties! Great to see you again Mikkie!

I guess some folks use "stealth mode" because they don't want for everyone to know that they are on here all the time because they might think that that person doesn't have a life? ................... Like me? In my defense, I do have a life - it's just a very reclusive one by my own choice. But, I want to stay near a group of people that are genuinely warm and caring and welcoming to newcomers - good folks. Not always easy to find in a forum environment.

Ditto ^ ^ ^ ^ ^

Couldn't of said that any better . . . The only thing I would add, when some people do not see you online it allows those who normally would not speak up the ability or even courage to finally have a Voice . . . Really like seeing all the New "Volties" here and ,adding their "Voice" to the "Voltville" Community Chorus . . . :D

Good mornin!' - Everyone . . . Be back later . . . :)

Good morning all

I have read through many of the 1659 pages but not all of them. It seems like most people start with their pv and totally give up smoking on day 1. Is this correct?
I smoked for 45 plus years, at least a PAD it more like 25 a day and even though I am loving the Volt I still feel the need for 2-3 smokes a day. I have been using the Volt since January 13thnand still can't say "I quit smoking" and it's very frustrating. Did anyone else slowly wean off this way or am I the only oddball in the mix?
Appreciate opinions and suggestions, I am using 24mg..I have some 18mg but they are not cutting it accept for the menthol burst on occasion.
Thanks for your help

One thing that I fond helpful was to stay ahead of the cravings. If I waited until I wanted a smoke it was usually to late and I couldn't get enough nic fast enough. I fond that If I used it it before the cravings took hold then I was better able to handle it.
Every one is different, don't feel bad if it takes you awhile. Just keep moving forward and you'll get there.
There are so many other things in cigarettes besides nicotine that your body is use to having.
Every one not smoked is a success. It sounds like your doing great, you went from PAD to 2-3 a day. Be proud, that's a huge leap forward! :toast:

Yeah its mental, We can buy smokes and e-ciggs here (Aperantly a gas station sells them now, but i thought it was only 0 nicotine ones. Abuddy told me they sell nicotine ones now though.)

But health canada stops them comin across the border, because they say that the e cigs claim to help you quit, and that none of the companuies have proved it with research. Thats all it is, I called health canada and asked them when i was going to first order mine.

Nicotine is the key for some people quitting. I just can't believe it.

Don't feel too bad. I haven't quit analogs yet, either. In fact, you are doing better than I am! I can puff on my Volt and then want a cigarette right afterward. I'm using a lower nic level because the higher ones make me cough, but even so, if I take enough puffs, it seems I should be getting the nicotine my body craves. My theory is that my desire for cigarettes goes beyond nicotine. Someone mentioned MAO inhibitors in cigarettes that might be what e-cigs are missing for those of us who find it hard to give the analogs up. I'm sorry that I don't have a solution to this problem. I wish I did. I've GOT to quit!

Hi Overwhelmed,

It was 42 years of smoking 1 1/2 - 2 PAD for me, and I did quit overnight; but I don't think that's how it normally happens. It depends on what you're addicted to the most ... I think. For me, it was the hand-to-mouth motion or oral fixation in addition to the nicotine - so the PV filled the bill. For others, it may be the MAOI's. For those individuals, I think that weaning off gradually works best, and it sounds like you're doing a darned good job! You've really come a long way and need to give yourself a pat on the back. It often takes time and that's okay! I think that crbrown had an excellent suggestion with "staying ahead of the cravings". My only suggestion is to just stick with it and give your body a chance to adjust.

First - always like your '"name"- Overwhelmed - it's just they way I felt and and sometimes still do . . .

Now just to let you know - that is if you don't mind, you are not alone . . . I have been at this for a short amount of time compared to so many others here - anld although Iave been here for only a few months now - I am still not a full-time vaper - yet. I have smoked over 2 1/2 - 3 PAD for over 40 years . . . And I never got into this to quite smoking but to cut back on how much I smoked . . . However NOW all I want to do is quit . . . But I would be lying to you if I said I stopped . . . I am still smoking about 2 PAD now, even though I have not found my one all day cape flavor . . . I continue to do my research, communicate with others here to learn more, and keep searching for that one WOW . . . That will help me ! ! !

BUT - The one thing I have learned and know is that it will happen - the stories I've read prove that to me, especially the most recent one from Barb about her husband encourages me even more now (btw- check out the story and blogs by "lolady" when you get a chance she is as great writer and her story will absolutely thrill & encourage you too) . . . And even more importantly, you will accomplish what you have set out to do when the time is right for you . . . You are not on a schedule or even doing this just like anyone else - you are on your time and doing this your way ! ! ! :D

I hope that this made some sense and was somewhat encouraging to you to know that there is someone else out there who is going to quite smoking - but in their way and in their time . . . I WILL QUIT SMOKING ! ! ! ! :D

A big thank you to everyone who has replied. I do feel better hearing that I am not the only one. Truthfully, I do feel going down to 2-3 a day is a huge accomplishment for me. It's friends and family (all non smokers) get me discouraged. They ask me if I smoked and I answer honestly and they say something stupid like "oh, I knew the e-cig wouldn't work" and stuff like that to tell you the truth I then feel like lighting up and blowing the smoke right in their faces LOL. My husband is the exception, he thinks I am doing great.
I guess I need to find my flavor. Yesterday I hated cappuccino and today it's good. I loved Desert Joe and today, with a fresh cart and fresh battery if feels like I am puffing air.
I also have to read about those MAO's in cigs - never heard of that so I will keep reading.
Thanks again

When trying to achieve a goal, the only helpful feedback is encouragement, not criticism. You know how far you've come and those who criticize can't diminish what you've accomplished.

Your sense of taste is probably changing in response to the reduced smoking. Another thing to keep in mind is that you can experience "flavor burnout" when using one flavor continuously. It's sorta like not being able to smell your own perfume anymore. Try switching it up a bit throughout the day with dissimilar flavors.

I also have to read about those MAO's in cigs - never heard of that so I will keep reading.

They're actually "MAOI's". Interesting that Big Tobacco chose to include them in their recipe, huh?

Next time someone criticizes you for still smoking, tell them that such comments aren't helping you. They need to know you need encouragement, not discouragement. Do they know how much less you're smoking? I congratulate you on doing what I'm so far unable to do. I smoked a pack a day, and now I'm down to maybe a half pack, maybe a bit more, but I'm discouraged, too, when it seems that others just give it up so easily, and I'm having such a hard time. What helps me the most is what lots of people here have said: every cigarette you don't smoke is a step in the right direction. That's a mantra I hang on to.
