Update on latest round of new PCC testing:

- PCC was left to charge its internal battery overnight.

- This morning the PCC indicated fully charged. A PV battery charge cycle was started with two batteries. Both Red PCC LEDs and both PV battery LEDs lit up indicating both batteries were being charged.

- About 4 hours and 30 (+/-10) minutes later (was called to a meeting and couldn't take the PCC with me) the PCC indicated the charge was complete (both Red PCC LEDs and both battery LEDs were extinguished). PCC battery LEDs indicated ~50% charge remaining (two out of four LEDs lit).

- When the batteries were initially put on a standard USB charger to check charge state, both indicated further charging was still required (LED on the end lit up when put on the charger).

- Placed one battery on a USB charger and left the other in the PCC and started a new charge cycle. Interestingly, both batteries completed this charge cycle in about 35 minutes. The battery on the USB charger indicated it was fully charged (LED on the end was extinguished).

- When the battery left on the PCC was checked on the USB charger it still indicated that further charging was needed (LED on the end lit up). This battery was left to finish on the USB charger and completed "topping off" in about 10 minutes.

What all this leads me to believe is:

- The charging current for either battery connection outputs only ~100mAh, not the 200mAh indicated on the label;
- The PCC charging circuit cuts of on a timer, or on a lower voltage than these batteries could use, or both.

That said, the battery that I depleted last night in order to do the dual-battery charge test was previously charged as the only battery on this same PCC and was not checked or "topped off" on a USB charger before I started vaping to drain it. That battery lasted for just over 3 hours of vaping.

Conclusion: even if this PCC doesn't "fully" charge the battery as the USB charger would, it's pretty darn close (at least in that single-battery test cycle) and I saw no obvious short term loss of performance or endurance. If there was, the effect was likely on the order of a few minutes worth of vaping time rather than reduced output over time (due to the battery being regulated).

Soooo... it would take several more cycles to confirm but if these results prove consistent my assessment is that as a PCC this isn't the fastest charger on the block and is likely to leave batteries slightly less fully charged than a USB/wall charger does. A couple of minor tweaks to the charging circuit is all it would take to move this out of "meh" territory.

However, if you consider this as a case first that just happens to have a so-so PCC built into it, it's not a bad unit. It just serves a different niche than some other cases/PCCs. As long as the performance stays consistent I'll be keeping it.

thank you  ...talking about a non-perfect world...got a call from a telemarketer yesterday....I had answered during a family dinner... I WAS actually interested in what they were selling...but this is how the conversation went...

Me: Can you please send me this information in email?
Guy: we already sent it to you via snail mail
Me: Ok well I would appreciate a copy via email anyway?
Guy: we sent the snail mail back to you in January and you did nothing with it...
Me: Ok well I am sorry I must have missed it...is there any chance you can just mail it to me again or send an email?
Guy: We already mailed it once we are not going to spend the money to send it again! And no we do not have the capability to email it to you!
Me: ok well this is not the best time for me to talk to you about it can you call back tomorrow?
Guy: Listen lady I know you are just lying to get me off the phone..so why don't you just tell me that instead of giving me your BS!!!!!
Me: Well I was actually interested...until you talked to me like this... now you can freaking forget it!!!

I mean really...crazy world!!

I just want to tell everyone, especially Imagine, how grateful I am and how much I appreciate SI's customer service! I haven't had to figure out much, having ordered the small PCC, which works intuitively, so I figured it out on my own. But it sounds like the mega is complex enough that people need help. I just went through this with a new clock radio I bought. It has all the bells & whistles, which sounds good, but to set it up is a nightmare. The instructions don't really tell you enough, so I tried to contact the company that makes the darn thing. First, I e-mailed them, and I got an e-mail back repeating the message I sent to them, so I e-mailed back to tell them that, and the reply did the same -- repeated! So today I phoned the company, and I had to hunt the Web site to get the phone numbers. I got connected to someone who helped me figure out how to set the clock, but I could tell he was losing patience with me. I kept thinking, "The people at SI wouldn't be like that!" And there's this forum where everyone can help! The comparison is a stark reminder of how exceptional SI is, compared to other companies, when in an ideal world, this kind of service would be the norm. Thanks, Imagine and everyone else at SI who make your customers so happy, even when things don't go just right!

Been keeping up with everything and I find this post so informative. Thank you for making the effort and taking the time Vapian.

I'd like to know if you can charge the batteries IN the PCC while the PCC is charging. I do this with my older kr808 PCC with no problem, but am wondering about the "newer" PCCs, especially the Mega.

Hey Natalia,

Yep you can charge the batts while the PCC is charging.

I'm with Vapian, I was using the mega PCC for a few days and never tried to top off my batts using the USB charger and never noticed a bit of difference. In fact the new auto 65's I got were really impressively hitting. Just my two cents!

Yeah I answer the phone at work and man you can get some rude pushy sales people, but when you call them back and need something, nothing.

Better to find that out now then later:)

Thank you for that information Vapian. I appreciate your research. That makes the Mega PCC my primary charger from now on both at home and on trips. I fly RC aircraft and have been using Lithium batteries since they were in the early stages, usually LiPo but some L Ion, both in radio equipment and to run brushless motors. One of the first things we observed was that too high a charge rate, trying to stuff them full or drawing them down too low greatly shortens their longevity. Even though they are protected from both I usually set my peak detection charger at a slightly lower rate and have batteries that have lasted over 2 years. I doubt I'll ever miss the short vaping time a top off charge gives. It took me a few minutes to figure out how to run it but right now I think it's great and I'm keeping mine for sure. I've ordered one of the sliders as well just to have a pocket case but this thing is great to throw in the console of my car and know I've got probably enough batts and cartos for a weekend in the woods.

Yeah - I couldn't advance to the next page either, and I started to panic with Voltian Withdrawal Syndrome.

Can't wait to get my shipment tomorrow. The watermelon carto that was in my Sweet Sampler is gettin' mighty sparce. Plus, I get to finally try the famous RY4 ! And, other stuff!! *calm down, calm down, just breeeaathe*
